Question for the Positive-Thinkers after the Walsall result
tisspahars replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
This is excellent news Alpine - presumably given the views you have so clearly stated here, could you promise us here and now that next time we grind out a win without playing well you will say "excellent win, only the result is relevant" and not "It worries me we didn't dominate/why did we sneak home by the odd goal/we won't get away with that next week/mum, i've wet the bed". -
Well I hope whoever was responsible got at LEAST a yellow - that's disgusting....

8/1 on Betfair.

Saints 2 - 0 Shrewsbury - post match reaction

Just so i'm clear on this one..... If we don't play particularly well and win it's not good enough. If we play really well but don't win it's not good enough. If we play really well AND win then the opposition are the worst St Mary's has ever seen. Is that it? -
Whilst Puncheon is a huge disappointment, to borrow a line from elsewhere - if Holmes is the answer it is a very strange question indeed.
-
If you are not on a wind up that is maybe the best "Colemanball" i've ever heard.
-
Really? Alpine and some of the other children are able to judge whole seasons from it.
-
Correct.

Who scored Saints goals in the 2-2 draw at Leeds in the League Cup Semi first leg in 1979?
-
Blackburn and Ripley.

I wish i'd read your post before bothering with mine, Verbal!

To respond to the Ladbrokes bit - my (extremely well educated) guess is that the truth of the matter is that rather than Ladbrokes "suspending betting" which sounds very dramatic, it merely wasn't something they had a market on and they advised this guy to try an independent rather than a national bookie to get his bet on. In what market would they have been betting exactly? They wouldn't hold a "next Saints manager" market before Pardew went, and they wouldn't hold a "next div 1 manager to go" market in the post season. And they certainly certainly wouldn't have an individual "will he go" market for a Div 1 manager. The Ladbrokes thing is a red herring imo....

You obviously don't remember it because he didn't...

I'd be astonished if it wasn't to finish 3rd i'm afraid. -

Saint Stevo - if you put even a third of those odds up on Betfair you would get your arm taken off. I suggest you do that - unless your all talk of course.... -

We are around 7/1 to be promoted, which, seeing as it ain't going to be automatic, makes us around 7/1 to win the play off final. -
1) I stand by everything I said in that original post. 2) Which in my book makes that the best Saints peformance and result in years (I really don't think that's an exaggeration, at least in the league). Fantastically well done boys!

.....for one of very few times in my Saints supporting life, I can't see anything other than a defeat (and possibly a heavy one) on Saturday. Away to the best team in the division, who are on a fantastic run and us with the hangover of the skates, losing belief as the play-off dream slips away and with one eye on Wembley....It IS a funny old game, and I would love to be proved wrong, but I really do only see one result on Saturday. Here's hoping i'm wrong.

Monday lunchtime and still no news?
-
Why no more news on this - it was days ago that Exeter said they were in fact giving us more tickets wasn't it? Anyone know anything?
-
To clarify for some....I was disappointed with the performance yesterday, and even more disappointed not to close out the game having taken such a late lead, however, some of the reaction on here was ridiculous. If we had a setback on the pitch (a poor decision go against us for example) and one of our players reacted by throwing a punch and getting sent off he would be lambasted for being so unprofessional. To me (although before someone points it out we are clearly not professionals) it is the same for fans. Yesterday was disappointing but lashing out and declaring us useless, in need of a complete overhaul etc is just a childish reaction - in my opinion of course.
-
Not everyone on here of course - but that post match thread is quite remarkable.

There was a piece in the Racing Post yesterday from someone who had actually looked into the matter thoroughly (shock horror). The only firm at that time who bet on throw ins (Sporting Index) only offered markets on live games - which the one in the book wasn't! Seems the whole thing was a (silly) attempt to sell more books....
