  1. Having Austin and Redmond in the same team seems pointless to me as neither are capable of dragging defenders out of position, especially in away games. If we played Tadic, Long and Redmond as a front three he would look far more effective. He clearly is a decent player, this thread is ridiculous, also is the comment that he is a direct replacement for Mane.
  2. The ones they said were: Alfie Jones Jake Hesketh Ryan Seager Jake Vokins Jack Stephens
  3. We are better at snuffing out half-chances so it seems when we do concede a shot on target it often goes in. Half of the shots that Heaton has saved are shots we would have prevented from happening with decent defending. Points about being glued to line and sometimes to slow to get down to shots are valid points though.
  4. Disagree, people using the "look how far we have come" as if we are some noddy team. We have beaten all the top English sides in recent years and should have won last night. Inter are complete gash - people just get excited by their name, we played well, but there is no hiding that is a crap result. Bar 4 or 5 sides, the rest of the Premier League sides would have all won there last night.
  5. I guess you'd say a more physical version of Morgan, broke up the play well and seemed quite mobile. Difficult to judge his passing based on that one game as they were keeping it quite simple and defending a lead for most of it so no probing passes required. Only just turned 22 and of course Puel should know whether he's a capable.
  6. Saw him play vs Spurs the other week and thought he was a stand-out player, would be a good signing.
  7. Was watching a season review the other day from 07/08 and was surprised to hear the name Ian Pearce, don't remember that at all. Seems he signed a short term loan and only played in one game away at S****horpe. Another one who played only a few games was Vincent Pericard - unfortunately I do remember that.
  8. Other Journo on twitter saying they are spending £13m on him, not a loan. They're also being linked with Camacho from Malaga.
  9. Saints close to agreeing fee for Boufal according to Jim White (SSN).
  10. Rodriguez out, Berahino in would be nice.
  11. Still interested in AOC, or moved onto other targets?
  12. Sounds more like Carlos Vela than Hernandez, the other poster EBS said it was a player he'd heard of, but didn't know too much about.
  13. It's not really different from our season tickets being more expensive than another club, who cares if the fans coming to St Marys are getting a cheaper ticket than us? It's one game. I'm sure some other clubs will follow suit and we'll get a £20 ticket at a different ground and that can only be positive. A
  14. Few reports saying Quincy Promes signing contract extension at Spartak, shame.
  15. Bony available for £13m according to papers this morning. Surprised West ham, C Palace or Stoke haven't made a move seeing as they're all after strikers.
  16. I like the idea of the 4-4-2 diamond as a second or alternative formation to switch to in some games, but the idea of it being our main formation concerns me a little. I think it will suit our midfielders well; JWP and Clasie in particular. Having the choice of Romeu/Hojbjerg at the base and then any of JWP/Clasie/Hojbjerg/Davis in the two positions in front is great. I'm not sure where Tadic, Redmond and Austin fit into this system. Hopefully we will still play a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 in some games.
  17. Thomas Partey from Athletico Madrid or Marco Benassi from Torino have both been linked previously and could be good options.
  18. Has good qualities, we are a better club to showcase them.
  19. most of obvious ones already mentioned. Jelle Van Damme signing for £2.5m seemed like an exciting signing at the time and didn't amount to much. I remember Jason St Juste being on the back page of the echo shortly after we were relegated in 2005 and there seemed to be a bit of hype around him. He never played a game for us. also, I did a paper round in around 2002/2003 and Javier De Pedro seemed to be on the back page for a number of weeks, was quite p!ssed off that we didn't sign him.
  20. Interesting that people seem Ok with signing Wijnaldum who has played well in about 5 or 6 games all season and is one of Newcastle fans' most moaned about players, but wouldn't want to sign Idrissa Gueye from Villa, just 'cause it's Villa. I can't see Saints making 'marquee' signings to replace Wanyama AND in the attacking midfield position (Oxlade-Chamberlain). Perhaps we will go for Gueye and Oxlade-Chamberlain or Marquee CDM (who?) and someone like Ziyech/Wijnaldum as an alternative attacking midfield signing. Bradley Dack mentioned above looks a half decent player, only seen him play for Gillingham twice, linked with lots of Championship sides - probably a better option off the bench than Juanmi... Chambers coming back would cover CB and RB, although hopefully we would mould him into a long term Fonte replacement, while utilising him in our slightly problematic right back position initially.
  21. Great shout, another player that scored against us for two different sides Watford and Millwall. Also got sent off against us for Sheffield United. Scored 6 in four consecutive games against us for Watford and then later 1 for Milwall in the cup. If I remember rightly the 3-0 away to Watford was Burley's first game as boss and he played Mills and Cranie and looked totally out of their depth against Henderson. I was at Vicarage Road when we were 2-1 up with ten mins to play and he scored twice to make it 3-2, sickening.
  22. Cureton and Iwelumo two teams only, but both definite thorns in our side, Patrick Agyemang also. Cureton scored 5 goals in three consecutive games against Saints, with us losing all three. Iwelumo never scored against us for Colchester, but netted decisive goals against us for Wolves and more sickeningly, Charlton, in the last minute of the game. Agyemang scored 5 goals versus Saints in a four game spell and in the one game in that spell which he didn't net, he instead provided an assist for Lewis Neal to score a 90th minute winner against us for Preston. B@st@rds. While I was double-checking whether Iwelumo had scored against us for Colchester it came to my attention that until we most recently beat Colchester 2-0 (Ox and Hammond), we had actually gone 7 games prior to that without winning - Colchester managing 3 draws and a win in 4 league visits to St Marys. I remember fondly celebrating a Viafara goal on boxing day stood on the terrace at Layer Road [1-1], and not so fondly visiting their new Lego type stadium on a very foggy day also in December which we lost 2-1 and could barely even see Lambert net a penalty even though it was at the end that the away fans were located.
  23. Andy Cole - Newcastle, Man Utd and Blackburn.
  24. I'm sure half the Premier League tried to sign Gray, but he got to stay in the midlands and join a team that is flying. It doesn't mean we didn't try.
  25. Sam Byram - Leeds - Plays more at RM these days than RB, but can play comfortably either. We lack Balance down this side of the pitch and he is out of contract in the summer. Moussa Dembele - Fulham - Quoted as £12m in the press with all the top clubs linked - good age just 19 years old. Is out of contract in the summer so surely closer to £8m.
