I spotted that at the time. Seemed to be quite composed considering his reputation. Thought he had a good game. On another note, I really think Wanyama's getting a bit of unfair stick on here. He wasn't bad, started slowly and misplaced a few simple passes but thought he got better in the second and actually didn't have THAT bad of a game.

Gerrard MOTM!? Lambert's provided 1 goal and 2 assists...He could have had a few assists too if other players didn't screw up. Ridiculous!!

Most people, when it comes to "favourite Saints players" would go for the obvious options (i.e Matt Le Tissier, Terry Paine, Mick Channon etc) but do you have any "favourite" players who possibly aren't considered the best players around but you had a soft spot for them for some reason or another? I've only been following Saints since 2005 so my choices are somewhat limited compared to those on here who have been doing so for a number of decades but two of my favourite players in recent years, not including the obvious ones (i.e Lambert, Kelvin, Lallana etc) are: Steve De Ridder Djemel Belmadi. No idea why, just liked them both. Thought they were good enough players and came across quite well off the field. Dunno why, I just liked those two. David Prutton's probably in there too and Grezegorz Rasiak. Anyone else got any favourite players who aren't considered "good"?

Was this a good transfer window for Saints and what do you think could have been done better/differently in the last 2-3 months?

They're supposed to come in and cover but I didn't see much of that yesterday, especially in the full back positions.

I'm a Christian so don't like people blaspheming....But can't help but think here it's almost justified!! WE'VE LOST ONE GAME AWAY TO A VERY DECENT SIDE!! Get over it. We may well need something extra upfront but under MP we are defensively solid. Something we never were under Adkins, even in our FL days. Unbelievable that people are already lining up replacement managers...ONE GAME!!! For goodness' sake....

I like the fact we have players who want to get the ball but sometimes I wonder whether the "pressing" system that we play drags players out of position and leaves us vulnerable in said position? MP even said in his interview this week that we don't play players in positions, we play them FROM positions. So if we're playing Luke Shaw at LB for example and he comes out to the left part of the central midfield to try and win a ball, we're exposed on our left flank to an opposition player who only has to ping the ball to an oncoming winger and all of a sudden they cross it in and we're 1 down. It happened today in that full back slot quite a few times. I think it works against the likes of Chelsea, City etc who are used to dictating play and playing their own way and it was a big shock to them hence beating them last season but against the likes of Norwich away where they're going out expecting to beat us, does it really work? They were dictating the play today so I'm wondering if we should adopt a more disciplined approach against the sides that are on on the same sort of level as us. Just a thought, is all.

Anyone know of any pubs in Southampton that are showing the game. Apparently the Kings Arms, Shirley are but that's a bit of a walk! Anyone know any around the City Centre that are showing it?

I've seen maybe one or two threads about why MP can't speak English since he joined. The ticket office one doesn't happen that often. But yes, the other three are legit.

One of my favourite players in the last 2 years. That doesn't mean I think he's one of the best, just one of my favourites. Always had a soft spot for him. Did an okay job for us, okay not Premier League standard but was a good impact sub in The Championship. Hope he has a nice rest of his career.

I honestly don't think I've ever been less excited about a season. Dunno why, just not feeling it this year.

I was a season ticket holder for 6 years around 2005-2011 and I'm ashamed to admit I was one of the ones singing those disgusting songs about KP and his wife. Am glad to say I've grown up now. Fair play to him for saying this. Would be nice if we could give him a decent-ish reception if he plays against us this season. Cheers for the goals, KP.

Really wanted Sharp to be given a chance last season. I remember watching him in a televised friendly against Ajax (I think it was anyway) and he looked awesome. Ran the channels well, linked up with his team mates. Missed a couple of chances but you could put the down to lack of sharpness. (No pun intended) Our striking options for this season should be IMO First choice - J-Rod/Lambert Bench - Sharp and Mayuka. With both Sharp and Mayuka getting a fair chance as both players have great potential IMHO.

I have no idea who won but every time anyone ran up to take a pen, it froze. Even on replays.

Not quite Saints related admittedly and not sure of the details but Bournemouth supporting mate just texted me to say they've got Andrew Surman. Good luck to him. Always seemed to give it his all when he was here.
