Williams and Ball, quite simply the best CM partnership we ever had IMHO -
Football League says "Yes" to home grown rule...
VectisSaint replied to Pancake's topic in The Saints
This is one of those completely non-event stories. Mawhinney is bigging up a rule that will have ZERO EFFECT on any club in the Football League. I would wager that almost every club in the Football League (note this does not apply to the Premier League) would meet this rule week-in week-out right now. 4 out of 16, its a complete joke. It has clearly been watered down to the lowest number that all clubs would accept. It will still be possible to field a complete team on the pitch with oversease players, as long as you have 4 home growns on the bench. Well whoopee-do. If Mawhinney had some bottle he would have at least insisted on 4 players on the pitch!!! And to be frank, this helps us no more than any other team. We continue to be deluded into thinking that this season we are blooding lots of our youngsters, the fact is we are playing 2 home-grown kids regularly who probably would not have otherwise played, Lallana and James. Surman is nearly 22 and would be an automatic choice in most CCC clubs, and McG is not a product of our youth system, he was transferred from Notts County. The rest of the team is made up of older players and loanees, or realtively expensive transfers in the case of Schneiderlin. -

I really can't believe that you actually think this seriously. If you agree that there was no dislike of Lowe before Cardiff then I have 2 words to say to you: Richard Chorley. Many many people were openly hostile to Lowe both before and after Cardiff, but like all good football supporters, we all bit our tongues when the prospect of a trip to Wembley (sorry Cardiff) appeared. I don't recall many mentioning the word "genius" in the same breath as Lowe when Hoddle was appointed, most people were confused or angered at the way Dave Jones was being treated at the time. Most thought he was a knobhead with his rants against Spuds, calling them North London bullyboys etc., and many thought he was completely off his rocker when he appointed Strachan (though we all grew to love him, for what he did for us). No, I don't think your rewrite of history to make Lowe out to have been a genius in the view of supporters is a common view at all. Incidentally, you keep posting that no-one has mentioned anything related to what Loe has done wrong this time, I guess thats because you ignore the messages where such information is given, such as my earlier post.

Trouble is the Poll was flawed. Read the question carefully. Do you have ANY confidence in JP. So 50% have some confidence in JP, that SOME can range from I have a little tiny bit of confidence to I have total confidence. The more damning statistic is that just about 50% have NO confidence. the poll would have been more useable if it had a range of options, such as None, Some, Quite a lot, Total, for instance. I think I voted for NO, what Lowe has done wrong is make a decision to coach young, inexperienced people with a coach totally inexperienced in this country, in the league we are in and with the players at his disposal. What Lowe should have done was say, right the path we are going down is using young players with little or no experience, but backed by a small number of experienced players to give some guidance and backbone, much the same as is being done, and for this I will appoint a coach who knows the English game, has some experience in the CCC and is good working with young players. There are just too many imponerables in the current set up. Now who would have fitted the bill for the right way to do things. I know, Nigel Pearson  Great with kids, knows the English game inside out, has worked with some of the most respected managers around, and some experience of the CCC. On top of that he is also a young British manager, which has always been Lowe's mantra in the past, but conveniently in this case he dropped that criteria when it mattered most. That is what Lowe did wrong. I quite like JP, but he was not the right choice for what Lowe wanted to do.

Interesting point. The other similarity is that neither made it at their first club as a senior, both blossomed after a transfer elsewhere. So the sooner McGoldrick moves on the sooner he will be a 20-goal a season striker lol

Shock - Redknapp says players aren't good enough

And to think that this pillock was nominated for Coach of the Year in the recent BBC Sports Personality of the Year (SPOTY) awards. Thank God the bloke with the bikes was around otherwise old saggy chops may have won a gong for something he knows nothing about, coaching. -
Saints Greatest XI - Second Best Right-Midfielder Poll

Wish he was -
White has best moment of dull match so far, good run beating 2 men, then unleashes a good left footed shot that brought a save from Brighton keeper Sullivan.

Think you are wrong. JP was definitely referring to Euell in part when he replied, though not trying to say he was the only one. If there is any excuse for what JP said, it could only be that English is not his mother tongue, and it came over a bit wrong. Still in my mind if Euell cannot read what McG is doing then that must be a plus, because neither can anyone else.

Actually he had a couple of good incisive runs early on, but since then he has hardly been involved. The Sky curse even haunts players when on loan

Saints Greatest XI - Second Best Right-Midfielder Poll
VectisSaint replied to St Landrew's topic in Golden Posts
Amongst other points missed, I think you have lost sight of the fact that this is meant to be a bit of fun. You do realise that the team won't actually be picked and will not be performing at SMS any time in the near future (shame because they would murder the current bunch). Bit miffed that Steve Williams is not an option. I did say in the nominations post that Paine should be the winner, especially if based on being a right winger, whereas in a 4-4-2, Williams should probably be considered as an option. In my mind Steve Williams should be a cert for midfield (with Bally) but suspect he will lose out. -
With respect Tijuana, these are vastly overestimated "valuations". In the current climate 1m for KD would be good business (though disastrous for the hopes of survival). Anything over £1m for Lallana would also be stretching it a bit. Drew might attract 1.5m if we are lucky, more likely less plus a makeweight (Delap, Fuller, Davies AND Higgy would do).

Can we have a Wilde Out sticky as well, since he is even more to blame than Lowe (if thats possible).
-
Its not just the numbers of attendances that will drop, but the income per ticket as well, there is no way that we could continue with £26 or so in League 1 (at least if we did the gate would drop even more than anticipated). Administration is not inevitable, there are lots of things that could be done to avoid it, but most involve selling assets or cutting costs further, thus making our stay in League 1 (or 2) even longer and more painful.
-
Realise this doesn't help TT, but you can view his progress on Sky tonight if so inclined, Brighton v Shrewsbury from 7.30. If he is a true Saint, he will of course have a mare if Sky are there

Since when is 20th place mid-table? Thats the best we can do, (unless we have a 7 goal turnaround with regard to Barnsley or Derby. Mid-table means the positions from 9th to 16th inclusive. Even 6 points would not get us there.

So Jan is the best we could do in the current circumstances is he? LOL. If people seriosuly believe that then they know little about football. Jan is out of his depth, and we could do better with a manager that understands the Football League. Ince, though is definitely not the answer, though he would probably do better than Jan. Having inexperienced players is all very well if you have someone good who can work with them to get the best out of them, Jan is not that person.

Saints 4 points above relegation. Portsmouth 5

Seem to recall we were 8th in 1973 about this time (out of 22) and we went down Bloody changes to 3up 3down. -
True, we already have one of those in charge, we don't need another one.
-
I disagree, the simpler answer must be to get rid of Wilde. Without Wilde's backing Lowe does not have control. Wilde is the key, he is the king maker, and he is the one without principles and with more to lose, not to mention the fact that he is closer to the edge, I think, than Lowe, because of his business failures. What is needed is someone willing to buy Wilde out and who can get along with Crouch, then Lowe will be gone very quickly.

So I guess you weren't aware that Swindon benefited from Walcott's transfer. In that case it certainly wasn't 25%, but it was worth a 5-figure sum to Swindon.

Normally reports in the NOTW are greeted with the derision they deserve , but I guess any port in a storm if it suits your agenda.

God the people on this forum are ridiculous...
VectisSaint replied to Dibden Purlieu Saint's topic in The Saints
If the formation works so well away why have we conceded 6 goals this week in 2 away games. It works occassionally, but teams know how to beat us, read Jack Cork's comments on the OS about yesterday's game. He states quite clearly that "they [burnley] countered our style by playing really hard pressing football, and that made it tricky for us to play from the back". Well, bugger me, teams have worked out that if they get at us from the start it stops us playing pretty football. The style does not work often enough away from home, once in a while is not good enough, though the performances away to Reading and Preston (2nd half) were absolutely brilliant. By the way, in case you don't know we actually have 3 good strikers at the moment, any one of which could be playing alongside McGoldrick in a 442 formation and racking up a few goals, I will just mention their names in case you have forgotten them, Stern John, Marek Saganowski and Gregorz Rasiak. Unfortunately our dim Chairman has loaned them all out, two to our CCC rivals, in the mistaken belief that it saves money, when we could have kept any one of them for no more than the cost of some of our excellent loans and transfers, Peckart, Robertson, Smith, Gasmi and Pulis who have so far contributed so much to the cause this season.
