  1. Sort of feel insulted that MLT is considered a maverick because he played for Saints all his career. He wouldn't have been thus if he had played for Manure or Arse from start to end. The article is almost saying that MLT must be a bit of a plonker to have stayed at Saints. Tripe.
  2. Doubt it, with the possible exception of Chester the 10 point deductioin would not make much difference to the others. Stockport are comfortable mid table, Charlton and Cheltenham are as good as down, Darlo are mid-table, Bournemouth are already in admin.
  3. Depending on what he was shouting at the ref then it could be a crime. We all shout at refs to some extent I'm sure, I know I do, but its not usually as pointed as this seems to have been. One of the reasons why the game is dying at grass roots level in this country is because of the abuse referees (and linos) are given. So even if its not a crime perhaps some people need to at least understand about Respect.
  4. No to mention Aldershot...
  5. Wonder if the ego on legs will ever reach 107 league goals (ok, some were for Accrington Stanley before they rejoined the League) - another 80 to go, maybe he will. Given Brett's horrendous injuries over the years thats not a bad tally for someone who is crap. Made a lot of goals for Beatts when he was with us, even if he didn't score many himself. I see he is quoted on wiki (from the BBC) as saying "I had some of the best years of my career at Southampton. Its a big club with great supporters." Pity some "supporters" don't have the grace to at least acknowledge his contribution
  6. Don't know, but would guess we'll have a better idea next season
  7. Big Mac in a thong, thats an image I could have done without
  8. Not everyone has the same view, here is an extract from the Torquay site: "Michael is on a season long loan from Southampton and his arrival back at Plainmoor after a very impressive spell last season was greeted with elation by the Gulls supporters. Commanding in the penalty box, a good shot stopper and a huge physical presence Michael may well end up playing at a much higher level and it would surprise no-one". OK, so Torquay are a in the Conf, but it wasn't so long ago that they were in League One, and Paul Buckle is no mug. Keepers rarely make it when they are 23, and he could well be a good back up next season, especially if we are in League One as it currently looks, might even be 1st choice if KD wants away which would not be a surprise.
  9. Poke had his contract extended before the start of this season and was then loaned to Torquay on a season-long deal. He was injured and returned to Saints for treatment (25 September). Former Saint Scott Bevan has been the regular keeper for the Gulls this season since Poke was injured (on loan from Shrewsbury). Since Poke's deal was season-long I suspect he is registered with them still and cannot play for us, but not sure.
  10. Note that this pathetic PR exercise will also not start to operate until just before the start of next season, i.e. after any important decisions about the strategy for next season have been taken. If nominations need to be in by end March, why not kick off the "parliament" in May?

Gary Crosby, who then proceeded to whine like a ***** Hmm, say no more...
  12. No, checked back to the OS Archive (June 13th). The whole package of measures were planned to cost £250k per annum, this included (1) shutting the 3 corners, (2) suspension of the subsidised bus service, (3) reduction of the shuttle bus service between city centre and ferry and rail terminals, and (4) opening stadium 15 minutes later on matchdays. I seem to recall the bus subsidy was about £120k, I would guess (3) and (4) would save perhaps 50k, leaving about £80k for the corners. I would think one of the factors here is reduced insurance cost, not just much reduced wages - the insurance would be based on the number of seats, and by closing these parts of the ground they are effectively saying the seating capacity has been reduced. Have to assume this exercise was worthwhile, after all we cannot say this was just Lowe's idea, as Leon was planning to do exactly the same, so Lowe/Wilde only copied the lead of the only successful businessman we have around. It seems like they decided against closing a complete stand "the more radical option" even though it would by implication have saved more money, but was considered too unpopular even for Lowe & Wilde to consider. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=10215
  13. Disagree, Wilde is most to blame. If he had not supported Lowe, then he would not have been able to regain power. Handing power to an incompetent so-called businessman is the root of the problem. we all knoew he was incompetent, but Wilde, who of course is also incompetent, demonstrated incompetence of a higher order by failing to recognise this.
  14. Worked yesterday didn't it  Face it folks, we were relegated a long time ago, the 3 wins recently just gave us some false hope.
  15. Surely not ART, did you not see the pics of our boys at the megaBowl (or whatever its called)? Surely thats better than a sunshine break, though perhaps the exertions of bowling took its toll on the boysh. Don't you realise the Red Funnel fares are very high these days, sunshine is an expensive commodity for Saints
  16. You need to do something about that sticky "o" key
  17. He used to score a lot of goals for TNS (only 10 this season though) He doesn't live in Burley any more (at least not all the time) He spotted the Boyle twins and signed them for Saints There, thats 3 positive things and I thought this was going to be one of the shortest threads in history.
  18. No, sorry this is just not right and is a reinvention of history. The team that NP inherited were in a shambolic state, following the demotivating spell under Burley (especially when it was known he was off to Jockland, but longer still under his awful training regime after Snodin left) and then D&G, the Bristol Rovers fiasco and so on. I don't actually think the players were really demotivated at all under JP. They were not performing because JP did not know how to get them to perform, but they did not appear to be demotivated, just lacking in ideas and trying to play a ridiculous formation. We, the supporters were demotivated, but Wotte did not inherit a demotivated squad anything like NP did. Thats not being negative about Wotte. I don't like the guy, but concede he has done a reasonably good job so far despite initial misgivings. 10 points from our last 5 games is good form, and that cannot be denied (just a shame all the other teams around us are doing equally well). If Wotte keeps us up he deserves another go next term, just as NP did.
  19. Rodney Marsh, good reason for a punch-up
  20. No, he spent it all on a new mansion in Compton Bassett here in sunny Wiltshire.
  21. Same team is the right approach, injuries/suspensions notwithstanding. Nearly always the best policy, the more the team play together the better they get to know each other's game.
  22. He actually said "finally go down again", its the"again" part that is significant. I wonder if Will thinks we will get Parachutes payments in League One He really ought to tell the rest of the band that a free gig at SMS with all proceeds to SFC would be a good idea. If they insist on a return gig at Stamford Bridge that would be a small price to pay.
  23. Agree with this. I really don't understand why when we have a 1 goal lead nearing the end of a game, Wotte (and several others before him) decide to change things by going defensive. It basically signals clearly to the opposition, hey guys, we are really worried about conceding now, so come on, get at us and see if you can score. Defensively we are still naive, though clearly we have improved from JP's time (and even BUrley, Dodd and Gorman's times as well). We do not have the type of defence that is rock solid and can be relied upon to hold on to a lead. Although I wouldn't go as far as Kevin Keegan used to, I still believe that the best form of defence is attack, and that good defending starts up front. If you have earned a 1-0 lead by using an attacking formation, the chances are that changing that formation can often lead to losing that advantage.
  24. Depends if Wotte leads us to League 2 Championship next season or not I guess.
