Can I remind you Robbie it was you telling us that George Burley was the manager to lead us to the promised land and how stupid Rupert Lowe was not to give him a five year contract because a Premier League club would come and poach the gem of a manager from us. You've not got a very good record with your predictions have you mate
-
I didn't realise that Lowe had to go all the way to Holland to find somebody who was cheaper than Pearson. Obviously if JP was the only manager in the world who would work for what Lowe was offering then Lowe deserves no credit at all as the decision was forced on him.

Come on Delldays you've stolen Wes Tender's role in reporting the possession stats or does he only feel able to do it when he can accompany it with snide remarks like he did against Cardiff. 21 shots yesterday I think I heard as well. Once we up our conversion rate somebody is going to get a tonking.

Well I've think we've found the mug who is going to buy the Saints highlights of 2007/08 season DVD. However much you put your head in the sand and pretend that last season was really good you can't get away from the fact that we achieved our worst league position for over 40 years. I've seen all of those and in my opinion the entertainment and football quality was the worst as well and that includes the Branfoot years. You say we won 13 games like it was something to be proud of. FFS S****horpe won 11 times Leicester 12 and Coventry 14. For me the epitome of last season was the Bristol R debacle which made us the laughing stock of the nation on prime time TV and I received calls from many parts of the country taking the ****. For a large part of last season I was embarrassed to be a Saints fan and dreaded going to matches but from what I've seen so far from our youngsters I have been entertained, can't wait for the next match and even if we get relegated I am going to enjoy the season.

Don't try to put words in my mouth. I said somebody who gets paid £10K pw shouldn't need motivating to avoid missing relegation in the last 20 minutes of the season. Professional pride should count but our overpaid, lazy mercenaries from last season did not seem to display any of that. As you say we our forced into a narrowed selection by circumstances and it does not help one iota when so called suporters are taking every opportunity to snipe and ridicule our only option for survival. Perhaps if everybody pulled together we can avoid the shambles of a season we had last year and build for the future but some people seem to take great in us losing games in order to further their petty point scoring mentality
-
Or they were afraid to try assuming the guys who were getting £10K per week were suddenly going to produce the performances they had failed to produce in the previous 40 games. Wes Tender says we had a good squad just lacking in motivation. I would say that £10K p.w. should be motivation enough for anybody to put the effort in. We've seen already this season the difference playing with enthusiasm makes instead of going through the motions to pick up an inflated pay cheque.

Pearson did not blood Lallana, GB did back in December 07. Pearson did not see fit to use him for 12 games while he constantly rotated BWP, Saga and Pericard despite Lallana receiving rave reviews in every reserve match he played. Pearson did blood Baseya for 1 minute against Ipswich. As he didn't score he never figured again as we went back to BWP, Saga and Pericard .

Why does everybody have this preoccupation about changinging formation. We never changed our formation last season when things were going wrong. Think back to last Burnley at home last season. 1-0 down at half time to a team playing 1 up front in Akinbiyi. We played 44 ****in 2 to the bitter end. Four at the back against 1 attacker. Same against Coventry 0-0 playing into their hands we made 1 change after 70 minutes bringing on BWP for Pericard and carried on playing 442. We never even brought Hammil or Surman of the bench in order to try and win it. Pearson never had a plan B why is everybody slagging off JP for not changing his tactics.
-
Also very similar to the absolute shambles that made us the laughing stock of the nation against Bristol Rovers. Davis ,Ostlund ,Powell ,Davies ,Wright ,Saganowski (McGoldrick ,80 ) ,Idiakez (Wright-Phillips ,57 ) ,Viafara (Hammill ,87 ) ,Surman ,Euell ,John You just keep coming up with one game we played well in Wes. I can come up with 10 times as many where we played crap.
-
And I'd forgotten how our wonderful array of tactics last season completely bamboozled the opposition. To the uneducated eye it seemed that we just varied the personel who couldn't perform in the roles they were given. Bristol Rovers in particular were completeley confused by our impression of a team who'd never played football before.
-
I think their wages will stop us selling them. Why were we the only club who thought they were worth silly money?
-
Could you enlighten me how much we made out of the Cup Final. I seem to remember that the profit we made on that season was £4M but I might be mistaken. If I am right we did spend £3.2M on Kevin Phillips after the Cup Final so Lowe did what you asked.
-
Comparing Bristol City's overachieving bunch of League 1 players as equal to Birmingham's PL quality packed team of today is laughable to say the least. Birmingham and Cardiff will both finish higher than Bristol C and Sheff Utd did last season
-
I could see a pattern developing from our first three games last season. We lost all three playing crap and we continued playing crap most of the season. We have narrowly lost 2 of our most diificult fixtures and the prophets of doom are out already. I'll start worrying when we lose at home to the likes of Palace, Barnsley, Charlton, Preston,Watford,Norwich,QPR, Plymouth & Burnley with performances to match those of last season.
-
Have you not woken up to the fact you're talking ******? I've seen more football played in the 4 games I've seen SMS this season than I've seen in the last 4 years. I can't see how losing to the CCC favourites and outplaying them (as stated on radio 5) for half the match can mean they are a team play that is no better than a pub team is on a good day I was at the 9 home defeats that our journeymen mercenaries served up last season and came away embarrassed at the inept play I was watching. Today I came away proud to be a Saints fan again and can't wait for the next football treat served up by my team
-
What all 3 of them. How can you blame GB for Saga's air shots last season unless he was drinking from the same bottle. But there again you probably weren't there to see the frequent miskicks from the player you think we should gamble our financial future on.
-
Saganowski played in 32 matches last season and scored 3 goals. David McGoldrick has scored 6 goals in his last 4 games. It's bleedin obvious to me which one should be playiing. Why should we ignore Saga's abysmal record over 32 games last season and select him on what he did over 12 games the previous season.
-
Can anybody prove that LC and LM went to every single match when they were on the board? Or is this just another stick to beat Lowe with that wasn't used to beat anybody else?
-
The whole point is you can't play a system where 5 players run, pass, close down and play at a high tempo and the other 5 play the static hoofball our aging mercanaries served up last season. It's got to be all the team busting gut or there's no point anyone doing it.
-
Were you at the Coventry and Burnley home games last season. We wouldn't have scored if we were still playing now. Seems the 1st 30 minutes was an improvement over what we'e done at Cardiff in the previous 3 seasons.
-
Probably about 5K per week subtle difference in Class and Quality. What part of we're skint and can't afford PL style wages are you having difficulty understanding? By all accounts at the Solent forum we can't really afford KD's wages either.
-
Not really true that quick passing to feet gives you more possesion time. If you hoof the ball high enough in the air that buys you 5 seconds possession time until the opposition heads it away a la our tactics last season. Also pointless passing with no attempt to make any progress earns a lot of possession points. You might have noticed that our style of play under JP is to try and get the ball forward quickly via controlled passing. This means that you also lose the ball quicker when a move breaks down. However I'm sure you much prefered Darren Powell passing to Jermaine Wright and back a couple of times before one of them tried a 50 yard welly into the opponents penalty area. That was possession football. I don't remember you being so pleased that we lost at Cardiff last season and the season before that and the season before that. Did we lose those games because we hadn't mastered the style we were playing or because the better team won on the day.

To deny that an appointment for the forseeable future (surely longer than a week) was not an appointment is clutching at straws.
-
It was after 3 of their 5 games in charge and the quote from Crouch was. We have a stable squad and a strong board which is more united than it has been at any time in the past four years. We still have serious ambitions to make the play-offs and we believe John and Jason can provide the spark to get us there with the kind of run we had at the tail-end of last season. Hopefully this will now end the speculation and uncertainty and enable us to focus fully on reaching at least the last eight of the FA Cup and mounting a strong challenge for the play-offs. That quote doesn't seem to suggest that Dodd and Gorman were only in place for another 2 games. It was only the knee jerk reaction to the Bristol Rovers debacle that meant they weren't in charge at the end of the season.

Shows what fools LM and LC were then because the dynamic duo were appointed for the forseeable future because they were doing so well http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=9711
