  1. Carabao Cup? WTF! It's the English Football League Cup, or League Cup for short. If Carabao wishes to sponsor the tournament, fine -- but why put their name on the tournament itself? Commercialism run rampant. The FA had the correct idea, when it decided to remove sponsorship title rights from the Premier League. They said they wanted a "clean" brand. Damn right!
  2. That's an incorrect use of 'like'. "Gabby to relish a fresh start, as he did when he first signed for us." HTH
  3. ... and a 17th place finish.
  4. Indeed. And if it's diving + theatrics (thumping the grass in agony, for example), it's no contest.
  5. It's all a matter of perspective, I suppose; but we sacked Puel on June 14th and signed Pellegrino on the 23rd. That's only 9 days. I wouldn't call that "ages".
  6. As long as he can step in time between defence and midfield.
  7. See post #13.
  8. Chris Marsden was the first to spring to mind.
  9. Already, I think, people are missing the point of "cult hero". A cult hero is an individual within a field of endeavour who is not immediately recognisable as a prominent figure. He, or she, is known and celebrated by a minority of "informed" aficianados. For example, in popular music The Rolling Stones are not cult heroes; Kevin Ayers is. In literature, James Joyce is not a cult hero, but Knut Hamsun is. Cult heroes would be considered secondary or tertiary figures to mainstream taste. So, in the realm of SFC Le God is NOT a cult hero. Pahars is not a cult hero. Hope that clarifies the concept.

  11. Sunderland, of course!
  12. Hamilton! How appropriate. Hoops, too!
  13. I've been checking out the BBC Football website numerous times a day lately, in anticipation of an article about the appointment, or rumours of an appointment, of a new Saints' manager. Each of the main stories on there has an accompanying photo, so any picture with a player in red-and-white stripes catches my eye. In the last week, or so, there have been stories about players with Sheffield United, Stoke City, Athletic Bilbao and - today - Guadalajara in Mexico. Anybody know of other football teams (especially outside the UK) that play in the red-and-white stripes? Any team ever play in red-and-white hoops? Just wondering.
  14. What's wrong with Pellegrino? Four syllables too much to cope with?
  15. ... will be announced yesterday?
  16. Hope you're not referring to me. I didn't use the term hysterical. And I have been to St. Mary's. [but maybe you were being "ironic".]
  17. Really? Not gonna bother, then, asking about your view of Maple Leafs fans.
  18. The Conservative Party got 49.7% in 1955. That's pretty close!
  19. Who has been the widest manager, I'd like to know.
  20. Saints made 15 TV appearances; they earned £25,240,917 in prize money (for 8th place finish); and received £122,450,841 in total payments from the EPL. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/40125394
  21. ... and played for seven seasons in the German Bundesliga (hockey) in the 1980's.
  22. Born and raised in Manitoba. Must be a Canadian, but might have dual-citizenship.
  23. My two-cents-worth: 1) I prefer the traditional red-and-white stripes. Always. 2) This change of kit every year is just an excuse to extract even more large sums of money (replica shirts) from the compliant fans. It's a strange custom, if you ask me!
