  1. If I had to pick one LP, then it would be Pet Sounds with the magnificent tracks "God Only Knows" and "Caroline, No". Are you familiar with Sunflower? It came out a year before Surf's Up. As much as I like the latter LP, I do think Sunflower is a more consistent effort. BTW, Sunflower and Surf's Up are available together as a remastered two-for-the-price-of-one deal.
  2. The Beach Boys' double-album CD release: Carl and the Passions : So Tough and Holland. I always much preferred their mid-to-late 60s experimental stuff, rather than the surfing stuff from the early 60s. My favourite LP of theirs: Sunflower.
  3. Good film - I've seen it a few times. Great work from Finney and Courtenay.
  4. I would really like to see this film - it was made by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. Not available over here, unfortunately.
  5. Electric Ladyland
  6. What you really meant was: Alpine Saints does seem to be a little too big for his boots at times. While we're losing he can get away with it, but when we're not he's on very dodgy ground.
  7. Is AS trying to blame AP?
  8. Yeah, what is their problem?! FFS!
  9. More likely to be the moaners' SOTM (Scapegoat of the Match). ;-)
  10. Nice. I also love the LP before that (Valentine) and the one that came after (Bullinamingvase).
  11. Frustrated with? Perhaps. Annoyed at? Maybe. Disappointed in? Sometimes. But "absolutely detest"? Never. What a weird notion that is.
  12. C & A My uncle from London used to refer to C & A as Coats and 'Ats.
  13. In the early '60s we used to do our Christmas shopping at Edwin Jones, in order to visit Santa's Grotto.
  14. What a difference a year makes! For the last few years ( until the second half of this season), I would hope for a win, but expect a loss - even after we scored first. Now I expect to win - even when we are scored against first! That's quite a change in expectation, and mostly thanks to AP and his astute rebuilding of this team.
  15. Here we call it a minority government. Sounds more positive than a "hung parliament". A minority government can be very effective. The parties are forced to work together and that reduces some of the usual partisan nonsense. It also stops a government from forcing through legislation that a majority of the country doesn't agree with.
  16. Precisely. This is one of my pet peeves with journalistic style. Many newspapers tell their reporters to make every sentence its own paragraph. I presume they believe it makes the article easier to read - but, as benjii points out, it actually makes it harder. Grouping sentences into paragraphs makes the writing easier to read, not harder.
  17. I'm wondering if your contempt extends itself to my friend in Wimbledon? His parents still live in Woolston, where he grew up; so he's back in So'ton regularly. We went to St. Mary's College together in the sixties. We get together for every game (Saturdays and mid-week) via the internet on Saints Player and email back-and-forth. We still have a passion for the Saints after all these years. Incredible, eh? Is he a "zero" too? BTW, I stopped getting the Pink in the late sixties; but I do remember fondly going down to my local newsagent's in Hythe every Saturday evening in the early sixties to get details about that week's game. [Were you supporting Saints back in 1962?] I could only go to a few games a season back then, cos I lived in Hythe and was just a nipper. Was I a "zero" even back then? Jeez, I never knew!
  18. GP and Grievous Angel, two brilliant albums from Gram Parsons - released in 1973 and 1974 - and now available together on one CD. Emmylou Harris is featured on both LPs.
  19. Yeah, but what a distinctive voice that reporter has!
  20. Though it was Dope Pusher!
  21. "A less-than-subtle challenge" by Borrowdale!
