  1. Thanks, you saved me the bother!
  2. That was supposed to be Mussolini, I believe.
  3. That's not available via FUBO, is it? I read somewhere that FUBO has some Sportsnet channels.
  4. Recommendations for "cultural spots" to visit in Greece. On the mainland, there's Meteora and Delphi (north of Athens). On the Peloponnese there's Mycenae, Epidaurus, Nafplion, and Mistras (near Sparta). Islands with cultural gems include Rhodes and Crete. For Greek islands that I've visited, I would avoid Mykonos and Santorini; they were wonderful back in the 1970s, but now have been horribly over-touristed. Generally avoid islands with airports and lots of cruise boats (two or three per day). Find gems that are quiet and off the beaten track--Sifnos, Tilos, Amorgos, Patmos. My wife and I are going to Crete in April. We're avoiding touristy spots along the north coast, east of Iraklion--places like Malia and Agios Nikolaos, and are spending time in Chania, Rethimno, and Paleohora--in the west of Crete. Hope you make it there. I love Greece. First went in 1973 and have been back another five times.
  5. That's an impressive tower brewery! Thanks for sharing the photo!
  6. Harris and her team have run an almost flawless campaign--impressive, given the relatively brief amount of time they've had. Every tactic seems to be the correct one (not playing the race card, for example, or dwelling on the "glass ceiling" she is about to shatter). Trump's campaign, on the other hand, (especially in the last month or so) has been a never-ending catalogue of pratfalls and strategic errors. Compare Trump's choice of VP candidate, for example, with the smart selection that Harris made. The focus of press coverage on polling results is foolish--the majority of polls are highly suspect (tainted by a practice known as "herding"). The key factor is the Democratic ability to get their supporters to the polls ("pulling the vote"). Anecdotal reporting suggests the Democrats are fired up and riding a wave of enthusiasm. There is a palpable sense of momentum in their favour. And they have a huge financial advantage (the campaign has raised over a billion dollars since Harris became the candidate), funding organisation and canvassing at the local level. Meanwhile, Trump's campaign seems to have run out of steam, and Trump himself is a much-diminished figure--physically and mentally. And his mental decline has led to alarming moments of disinhibited remarks and behaviours. To those outside the MAGA-cult, every event reinforces the fact that he is unfit for the job he is seeking. And, more prosaically, in the US system, electors tend to lean towards the more likable candidate, and the one who exudes confidence and talks about what they will do to improve things. Trump is nothing but an endless litany of grievance and hate.
  7. Thanks for all the videos you've posted so quickly!!
  8. According to my Oxford Dictionary, ancient means "of or pertaining to the world prior to the fall of Rome in 476". And "the ancients" are the people of ancient times "especially the Greeks, Romans, Hebrews, and Egyptians".
  9. And then there is the appalling and incorrect practice of turning a noun into a verb: for example, to medal at the Olympic Games (to win a medal at); to weaponise the Justice Department (to turn the Justice Department into a weapon); to summit Mt. Everest (to reach the summit of Mt. Everest), she friended me (she became my friend), to impact the process (to have an impact on the process), etc. etc.

  11. Wow, that brought back a memory: In April 1969, I bought Fleetwood Mac's single "Man of the World", written by Peter Green. The flip side was a song credited to Earl Vince and The Valiants--although it was actually Fleetwood Mac in a completely different style. The song--written and sung by band member Jeremy Spencer-- was called "Everybody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked in Tonite". The song was covered later by The Rezillos (1978). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0U-eef6OyQ
