What to the board need to do to gain back the trust of the fans?
Bwanamakubwa replied to maysie's topic in The Saints
I will have a go at answering some of these. To clarify I am not a member of the board... 1. Players were unhappy as they knew they could be paid 100k+ to play or have a very good chance of playing champions league football. Southampton 2014 cannot offer either of those things. It is evident that this was compounded by a change in board and some poor communication but that is secondary. 2. If, as seems likely, Forster is signed and a couple more then we are in a decent position. The remaining question is how they gel and we have a manager (appointed by the current board) who has a reputation to be able to do that. 3. The change in director was explained and is exactly that. Back to the original question: trust will be regained by one thing, winning games. Provided no one expects us to better last season in the immediate future then it will be fine. NC under the old regime made some pretty unpopular decision. All are forgotten when games are being won. -
Agreed. If we are going to get loans they need to be able to walk straight into the side and do a job

Reading the same opinion written in multiple posts is fun

And that is exactly where we are and why we are considering loans to get us through. I believe this more than the "we are getting loans cos we are selling the club" line.

Yep and in just about every other contract you can either a)resign with a period of notice b)breach the contract and accept the consequences (includes under performance or going on strike) c) negotiate termination of contract Effectively a) is not available, the threat of under performance or going on strike forces the club into c). It's just not a great system!

I think that's exactly what it's like these days unfortunately. I respect that you operate in a more honourable manner. If I want more money at my job, I walk in and tell the boss why I'm worthy of it. if it's declined I make the call to leave or not. I'm not sure how many people would honour the contract they signed when they started working if they were offered what they considered a better one Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

But jwp yes, let's hope he sticks around and keeps the dignity and determination he has shown to date Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

And that's the issue for me. Lallana and Lovren behave in an unprofessional manner and the end result is they get what they want. Morgan, the guy who has (to that Twitter post) acted in the most decent and honourable manner and does not get the move. What does that tell any future players wanting a move?

It can't be and it won't happen. KL is selling, we won't ever spend any money and are asset stripping. No one of any quality wants to come to Southampton and we will be relegated FACT. (....Changes his user name to Turkish) Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

Taïder Joins on 1 year Loan & Osvaldo to Inter - Official

Well if he is a winger with great pace, who never gave the ball away, scored a goal a game, and always made the right decision there's a small chance he wouldn't be interested. Pace is a decent option, and one we dont have right now. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk -

Anything to get osvaldo out of here is great business. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk -
I seem to recall one of the feyenoord fans saying that Koemans stance is always to sell a player if he doesn't wanna be here. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

Hang on, if the club has had enquiries but he hasn't been sold, the club finally said no to someone! Rejoice!!! Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

£16m plus those two permanent signing I'd take. Clyne will be first choice rb, jenkinson as cover, gnabry is a good player. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

Is cork going to be bothered? He has another year left on a contract he's been happy with. If it winds down, barring injury, he will be in demand enough to get himself a very good deal. It's saints who stand to lose a good player, cork will be fine Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

Well you've got the secret footballer who has no love for football. The other one I know of Bobby Zamora who hates the game. Sure there are many more Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

Although I agree with the sentiment, I'm just a but calmer about it. I'm not sure for instance that it's a FACT that a chairman is Absent WithOut Leave. I'm also less inclined to use the term FACT when prefixing it with "possibly". The facts are: we had a good season last year finishing 8th. That's now gone. We have sold three key players, 2 of which came from League 1 with us, one whom has had one season. We have lost our manager who some fans questioned but most were happy with. We have replaced him with a manager who some fans have questioned but most are happy with. We've added a reputable goalkeeping coach and coach We have around 7 weeks until the start of the season. The following is opinion, spot the difference: The saints board and management team will be aware of how unsettled things are and that if they want to make a fist of next season we need 4-8 good signings. To get that sort of success rate is unlikely. Koeman probably knew this situation and may have even sanctioned the moves for Shaw and lallana. I'm hoping we stick firm with Lovren and Morgan, losing them would be a massive problem at this moment in time. I'm confident we are looking to sign players in the best interests of the club and as quickly as we can. Some of these will be to replace the guys who have left, some additions. I'm also relatively happy with our transfer dealings over the past few years and consider them good when compared with other clubs. My feeling is of worry about the discontent, nervous excitement about the new season and next 7 week, happy to see Koeman in charge and what he will do with it, determination to enjoy it no matter what. This raises a good point! I'm inclined to think it's not time to panic just yet, so when is "too late"? I'm going July 24th at 19:38. If we've not signed two or three quality players by then, we are all dooooooommmmed Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
