Buy success or build success? The 'Southampton Way' has always been about developing half of the players in our team. Nothing has changed, just expectation. Well done Southampton in sticking to your principles. Devein get players takes time. Please find some patience and get behind your team.

Schneiderlin, Sakho and Gabiandini. Fonte out This Mr Reed is the solution

Great day out at friendly Norwich! Saints dominated and drew. That's how it is at the moment. Well done Puel! Lewis debut in goal. Reed in midfield. Jack at right back. Sims right wing. I have to say JWP looks like a footballer now. Fantastic condition and he's ready now to reach his potential. It's not Puel's fault we aren't celebrating a victory. It's shameful that Long misses so many chances and really doesn't seem to get angry at himself. Yoshida has seriously improved his distribution and defensively looks strong. The kids made mistakes that cost us the game today. Lewis with a bad first touch, but for me what was more frustrating was Sims moments earlier being offside when looking along the line when it was 3 v 1 on the counter attack and then getting a yellow for shooting into the crowd. Reed played well, but gives away free kicks outside the box by tackling from behind, instead of getting in front of the ball. He needs to learn position. Did we look better with the senior player coming on at the end? No. Romeo in my opinion cost us the goal by not tracking and leaving the player free in the box, but another game to develop our youngster is excellent news. Mr Puel I question how high our full backs are pushing. Surely you don't need to wide forwards when they push so high. Please try playing Jay Rod and Long up front with Redmond or Tadic playing No. 10. Try it for me with high full backs and see what happens. You never know it might work!

Spontaneously I've come to support my team. That's what we need at the moment to get behind our team.

This day was always going to come. I hope a Chinese team come in for him and pay us silly money.

Wish I could adjust my spelling.

In principle I like to use five lines, excluding the goalkeeper: the back 4, a central midfielder playing from the back, 2 wide midfielders outside him pushing forward, one striker playing deep or up front and 2 attackers on the wings. Does that sound similar to the philosophy of anyone we know? Johan Cruyff liked an attacking brand of football, however in order to attack you have to defend by pushing forward and putting pressure on the ball. To create as many lines as you can. In my opinion we aren't far away from everything clicking. A few players don't fit the system or have struggled to adapt to the system. We need to defend higher, but loss of possession in dangerous areas will expose us. Allow Puel the time to solve the problems and keep the faith. Imagine a new mountain bike, it takes time to adjust to the bike and the you ride the more in tune you become, but then the bike needs a service. To adjust the loose chain, breaks... we have reached this moment. Keep the faith good times are around the corner!

Complacency is that the issue or a new player?

Don't get to high when things are going well or to low when things are going bad. -
Managers never stop adapting and evolving
-
This is not Puel's team and teams take time to build. It would be ridiculous to sack a manager who is 9th in the premier league. And disrespectful to talk about a new manager when we already have one. The strength of a manager is how he reacts when problems arrive. Allow him the time to evolve and develop.

We actually played well until we took the lead. At this point I said to my son 'now it's our game to lose'. We'd carved out the opening now we had to stay compact and well organized and stop WBA having time on the ball and space. I'm thinking of our we shut up the game against Arsenal when we got beaten 2-1. What we did was just dumb and unprofessional. We were 2v2 at the back for their first goal. Martinez had pushed up and allowed his man to get behind him, causing a 3v2 overload. The shot wasn't clinical and Forster should have done better. It's the way we lost upsets me. It wasn't disciplined. It wasn't organized and that's not the 'Southampton Way'. VVD has been a shadow of himself in last few games. Flat footed and lacking concentration and discipline. We've been lightweight in midfield for quite a while and we need to immediately change this. Sometimes we need to change to 2 defensive midfielders and this is where I begin to question our playing style. The diamond has attacking limitations. In the end Puel looked desperate of ideas in this match. We beat ourselves yesterday and that's what hurts!
-
Yesterday was not good enough and if this continues heads will roll. Seriously VVD worth £50 million? Cash him in. I think he's reading the newspapers instead of doing his job.
-
Tottenham were the better team. London club benefits from poor refereeing decision?
-
Clearest diamond I ever seen?
-
We are technically an excellent team, very disciplined and well organised. We have lacked the cutting edge (before Bournemouth) and the ability to break down well organised defences.

I'll be surprised if Morgan wants to return. If he does want to come home I'd be surprised if Saints didn't take him back.

Thanks 9-3 for informing the forum of this very sad news. A very sad loss to the music industry. I grew up with his music always in the background of my life. As a Saints fan this news is relevant to me.

I have to shake my head at some of the comments on this forum. Instant food, instant coffee, everything NOW!! We buy good players and improve them. Please have patience and allow players and coaches to the time to develop.

Saints 1 Hapoel Be'er Sheva 1 - Match & Meltdown Thread
Andy Durman replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
Hapoel had one chance and scored. Inter Milan had once chance and scored. The team that scores more goals wins. The best team is the one who scores more. There are no prizes for playing beautiful football with no end product. Puel, Reed and the coaching staff will have to work hard on finding solutions. 4-diamond-2 is a defensive set up. I would explore 3-5-2 at home. -
Who else do you play left side? Long played 90 mins. Redmond better right side. McQueen played 90 mins.
-
Whilst a lot on here consider JayRod to be finished its interesting to note that he's always a squad member (when fit). I think Puel rates him and he's obviously doing good work in training. The reason I think he'll play is because he's fresh. I expect Boufal to play 30 mins in this game and 60 mins in the next game. Rotation and freshness. Sims is probably tired as he's young . Three fresh attackers. I don't mind being wrong, but I like to try and second guess Puel at the expense of looking silly sometimes

The side for Saturday will be:- FF Cedric, Fonte, VVD, Bertrand Romeu Højbjerg JWP Redmond, Austin, JayRod You herd it here folks
