The Domino effect. We need the money first before we could afford our targets

I'll be surprised if the Mirror is wrong on this one

Tuchel is not fantasy. He fits perfect. Looking forward to his unveiling.

Tuchel would be an incredible show of intent by Saints. Champions league would be a real possibility next season. I think Les will pull this off.
-
I think Southampton are exactly what Tuchel wants.
-
Any information on Austrian preseason trip? Dates?
-
Thomas Tuchel would be the dream

So what do people think of Jack Stephens? Would anybody have entertained him replacing Fonte? Targett isn't Bertrand yet. If given the time to develop in this position, then who knows? Perhaps he will be better?
-
Targett is the future.

I'm far from happy but 8th matches my expectations. The football has on the whole been boring and needs to be addressed for the new season. But let's not stand in the way of maximizing earnings and let the board sort out the direction once monies are banked.

Get behind your team and celebrate 8th place!!!

The measure of the manager is not that he makes mistakes, but how he learns from his mistakes. Puel is a cautious manager who likes to defend deep in a compact unit and hit on the counter attack. When in possession he likes to keep possession and let the other team work and tire. We are a team who are very neat tidy box to box in possession, but our caution prevents fast attacking football and our players haven't yet worked out the transition and to be clinical. Do we have the players to play the Puel system. Can the players we have learn to be more clinical. Time will tell. I went crazy when JWP was again subbed against Man United, but the change did not open the game as it did previously because Boufal seemed to understand his role better. The mistakes of before certainly appeared to have been worked on and that suggests to me that Puel is learning. The problem is how can you take a cautious man and change him into a risk taker and there lies my problem. His persona, character and poor English make me question whether he fits the 'Southampton Way'.
-
Puel can go, but Les Reed? Some of you really have short memories and delusion.
-
What really pleases me is playing at home and scoring so many goals. It's so exciting! Puel bye bye
-
Well at least Puel tried something different with 3 strikers. Problem is look who he took off again. JWP for Boufal.

StatsBomb: What has happened to Southampton?

Long needs a strike partner to get the best out of him. Long and Gabbiadini working together in a mouth watering 3-5-2 system. Depressing that we haven't tried it yet. All are opponents know how we'll set up. Boring, boring, boring! -

I don't disagree that Saints have had some great moments this season, but it's Puel's logic that makes me consider he isn't the best fit for Southampton. That and his boring charisma and poor grasp of English. I have watched Puel substitute JWP twice and watched the opponents dominate the midfield afterwards. Then the next game he drops JWP altogether and we fail to beat Hull. I also cannot understand why he doesn't sometimes change the system to 3-5-2. We obviously have the players to do this. Eric Black fills me with no confidence. Strachan, McMenemy, Souness, Koeman, Poch, Nichol....I held these managers so high in my respect. Puel is different. There is something about him and maybe Puel wanted more out of Boufal and so knew what he was doing replacing JWP. Maybe he challenged Boufal to work harder defensively. Maybe Rome needs more than one day to build and maybe there is logic that I don't see. He is obviously intelligent and there are no bad managers in the Premier league (except Moyes). -
Sometimes you have to change the system We have the players to go 3-5-2. I despair at the moment.
-
Time to say goodbye to Puel. Enough is enough. He is a stubborn Frenchman and is taking us backwards
-
F**king ****!!!! Why not play 3-5-2 and go for it. The fact Puel can't change his system is the reason he should go.
-
JWP once again noticeable by his absence. Clasie deserved to start and Tadic should have been taken off at half time.
-
Make a mistake once and it's not the end of world, just don't make the same mistake twice.
-
Puel will be wanting to replace Austin. Absolutely not his type of player

Never have I seen Saints playing such beautiful football

We really have played some fantastic football this season, compounded by poor finishing. You can see the philosophy of Puel - defend deep and hit with fast transition. The reason why it's not consistent is partly due to the set up of the opponents and the players inability to find the solution of how to play forward at tempo. Hence why we play better when Tadic performs. My frustration this season has been the chances missed. I've watched the fantastic combination play, but without a goal the opposition is always capable of taking their opportunity when it arrives. Fortunately WBA messed up a lot of excellent chances and we celebrated. Another day and it could have been another one of those games full of promise without the result. That's the season in a nutshell. Great that we have Gabbiadini, but is he another sick note and do we really play quality football with Austin leading the line? We have fantastic fast players and are blessed with players of exceptional technical ability and creativity and if all player who we want decided to stay next season my god we could be playing Champions league next season.
