I might have a look at the video later so can't really comment on that. I assume the point is that no one or no organisation can be truly impartial, and you can probably make a philosophical debate out of that but it's not going to get you any further than a pantomime of an argument that descends into "The BBC is impartial" vs "Oh no it isn't". There can be no clear answer either because it's in the eye of the beholder and subjective. I could of course respond with the fact that your link is to a man sacked for breaking BBC impartiality rules - it's not like he doesn't have any skin in the game is it? Point I was making is that if you want to make a case for the license fee being unnecessary and irrelevant then you're best off leaving impartiality out of it. I mean, I quite like the BBC and the license fee model, but it does look fairly anachronistic and quite difficult to defend in a media landscape that has a plethora of channels and streaming options. Anyway, knock yourself out on the impartiality debate if you want - it won't get you anywhere.
-
Your kind of impartiality would be endless droning about culture wars - I doubt a news story goes by without you trying to find some angle to bring it up. So the idea that you have any kind of handle on impartiality is frankly laughable. As to your second point I've already said that it's becoming harder to justify a license fee in a media landscape that has so many options available. It's nothing to do with impartiality though and as all broadcast media are required to be impartial, getting rid of a licence fee would make no difference whatsoever.
-
That's bollocks. People don't want to pay for it because they don't feel they use it enough. That's a fair argument although I actually like the BBC and the license fee but I can see it being harder and harder to justify.

Ofcom requires all broadcast media to be impartial. Surprised you didn't notice it cos GB News got done for it not so long ago: https://www.ofcom.org.uk/news-centre/2023/ofcom-finds-gb-news-in-breach-of-due-impartiality-rules#:~:text=An Ofcom investigation has today,2023%2C breached due impartiality rules.

That's you though isn't it? I may be mistaken but you're the one who talks about women as "birds"? Tremendous self aware irony if intended though!

I think if you're not interested in what Martin or Wilcox has to say then it's probably best to ignore it. They'll still get judged on results by most, if not all, fans. I've got my doubts over Martin and I'm not sure the emphasis on a particular style or philosophy is the best way forward but I am interested to hear about the thinking behind it and the kind of football they're trying to implement. Sure, it's a PR exercise but sounds like it was a lot more informative than your average pre game press conference. Hopefully the club put it on the OS or the YouTube soon.

Cheers for updates @Saint Garrett and @gio1saints Sounds like an interesting evening. Appreciate the team is judged on the pitch etc etc but I quite like hearing about the tactical side of things and what they're trying to achieve.

The Bellingcat investigation into the hospital attack: https://www.bellingcat.com/news/2023/10/18/identifying-possible-crater-from-gaza-hospital-blast/ Nothing really conclusive although somewhat contradicts the Israeli claim that there were no craters. Bellingcat is really good for fact checking this kind of stuff so would be worth keeping an eye on whether they come up with anything else.

What kind of gym do you go to? Pretty sure most gyms don't allow wanking (although it's been a while since I've been to one).

It’s not a great list but can also add Darren Anderton, Graham Roberts, Levi Colwill, Nick Holmes, John Sydenham. Still nowhere near as impressive as the players that have come through the youth system though

Yep, I'm the same. Despite having seen "The Thing" countless times, I'll invariably watch it right to the end as well.

Agree, it should really be on the things that bring us joy but fuck it: I'll never put on a lifejacket again.

Here's to swimming with bowlegged women.

You take that back right now, there's no fault with Jaws whatsoever.

To be fair to Southgate I can understand his frustration. Your average football fan hasn't been made aware that all the various initiatives such as Kick it Out and Respect are only really important when they don't intrude on the important business of making money. It must be quite annoying when fans take you at your word when it was only ever pantomime virtue signalling and never intended to be taken that seriously.

Didn't Swansea have the most crosses into the box of any team last season? I'm not sure how many headed goals they had though but Piroe is a tall lad so assume he must have had some. Should definitely give us other options and Stewart does appear to be a "proper" striker with good instincts on where to be and how to find space. Looking forward to Stewart getting in the team.

Utter pony. By your thinking we should have levelled Dublin when the IRA were conducting mainland bombings.
-
You keep asking this. Proportionate response would be to target Hamas not level Gaza, displace 300,000 people and deny them power, food and water. If you think that the current actions by Israel are proportionate and fair (which I can only assume you must do) and the only reasonable response available to them then you’re full of pony.

Not sure that's actually been verified has it? Only reason I mention it is because there seems to be a lot of stories like this that ultimately turn out to be false. I remember in the first gulf war when Iraq invaded Kuwait and there were accounts of Iraqi soldiers going into hospitals and ripping babies from incubators. I think that story was planted by the daughter of a Canadian diplomat who was working for a PR company. Loads of similar accounts circulated by the Creel commission in WW1 too. That's not to say that Hamas hasn't committed an incredible amount of verified atrocities so I'm not trying to downplay anything, just might be worth holding fire (no pun intended) on quoting that example.

Have to be honest, I didn’t hear any boos. There was some moaning and annoyance int the second half and you could tell the crowd were getting anxious but, at least from where I was, it was a long way from unanimous booing. Anyway, regardless of whether they’re being booed, or even if they should have been booed, the manager and players should know better than to criticise the fans. Nothing good ever comes of it. Might not be fair but that’s the way it is.

Saints 1-1 Rotherham - Match Thread
revolution saint replied to Lee On Solent Saint's topic in The Saints
Quite pleasantly surprised that the reaction isn’t too negative. Any other day we win that easily. Frustrating not too win obviously but created loads of chances and their keeper had a great game. Thought Edozie looked very good. Che didn’t do himself any favours. Hopefully Stewart will be in the squad soon. -
VAR- What is it good for.........

That's quality. I want him doing commentary and punditry on TV. -
Yeah, sorry, rather than just repeat what Martin said in the presser I should have said it's amazing he hasn't stuck to a fairly loose prediction of when he'll be back. Personally I doubt he'll ever play again.
-
Said in the presser that he’s been back in training for a few weeks, think he said participating in some sessions and hopefully back sooner rather than later. Didn’t want to put a date on return but suspect after the break we’ll probably see him start to make the subs bench.
