This is strange because when Anna Soubrey et al defected to Change UK in early 2019 you compared them to Douglas Carswell who defected to UKIP and said, "Wonder if they’ll be as principled as the tories that defected to UKIP and both fought by elections. Somehow I doubt it." Here's the link: So I'm guessing you think a by election would actually be principled? Incidentally Carswell resigned on 28th August 2014 and the next GE was in 7th May 2015 so in both Lee Anderson and Douglas Carswell situations there was less than a year before a GE. Interweb never forgets.

I know Mane gets dragged up a lot but my recollection isn't that of Mane being universally slated. Obviously there will be some but it didn't feel like overwhelming negative - maybe that's memory playing tricks on me. With regard to KS - he needs to be better, simple as that. His output is way behind Fraser and Edozie even on a minutes per goal/assist basis. He may have more pace and a few more tricks but he's not making them count and is why he's second or third choice. The ball is in his court - every time he comes on he has a tremendous opportunity and he's not going to get much better than playing in the championship in this team. I've defended him in the past but he can't complain; if he thinks he's that good then he needs to deliver.

Obviously hope you're right but people like Scaramucci have done pretty well out of knocking Trump and predicting his demise to an audience desperate to hear it. CNN, MSNBC and to an extent the BBC lap it up and there's a cast of familiar faces like Scaramucci, Mary Trump and Michael Cohen always on hand to provide it. It's a comforting little bubble but none of them know what's likely to happen anymore than the rest of us do. The actions of the Supreme Court are the most worrying aspect - they're doing exactly what Trump wants them to do which is delay as much as possible. About the only saving grace I can see for the Democrats is that the abortion issue is hitting Republicans hard.

I think this is an opportunity for Martin to say how brave the firefighters have been. Tremendous courage. So so proud of them.

Birmingham City 3-4 Saints - Match Thread

I had a dream last night that Russell Martin was a contestant on Mastermind and all his answers were "Is it Jack Stephens?" -
Jeez, really? That's mental. I saw the press conference but obviously they didn't go into detail. Can understand him coming off social media but what sort of sick twat writes stuff like that? Even if they're on a wind up it's well beyond the realms of normal behaviour. Anyone writing that kind of thing needs help. I actually like Smallbone - I don't think he's suited to a more defensive role but further forward I think he's pretty good. Keeps the ball moving, decent passer, good vision and weighs in with a few goals.

I agree that I much prefer the championship but a lot of that is because, right now, we've got better resources than every club except possibly Leicester and Leeds (you could debate for years the various merits of us versus them). The Championship is more of a meritocracy than the Premier League but not by much. Don't go up this season and we're probably Norwich or WBA level next season, and bloody Stoke in a few years time. I'm not going to enjoy that quite so much.

I saw him once in the queue at the cinema to see "Boxing Helena". I assume, like me, he was there to see Sherilyn Fenn in varying states of undress under the excuse that it was an "arty" film. I didn't speak to him but you could tell he was tall from the way he looked. That aside he was a good manager and responsible for a lot of great games and an exciting young side that was (mostly) fun to watch. His last years are a terrible shame as it seems to be for a lot of players from that era. RIP Chris.

Have to say it’s a poor transfer right now. I imagine he was bought as a first choice defensive midfielder and the manager doesn’t trust him even when he has no other options in that position. Personally I’d play him but if Martin doesn’t think he’s up to it then the club should never have bought him in the first place.

We should play Stephens as a false 9

I'm so so proud of that reply, and it's a great reply. The bravery, wow, it just blows me away and as a reader that's really all I can ask.

I don't get too down after a defeat, just as I don't get too excited when we win. It's all about perspective, I'll look back at the game, analyse it, learn any lessons that need to be learnt and then move on.

Good result, decent performance but never felt like we got out of first gear because neither did West Brom. Honestly, I expected more of them. Not sure if it was because of the news of the takeover but sounded like their fans celebrated by taking a shedload of tranquilisers washed down with Night Nurse. Never been a massive fan of Aribo but thought he was excellent when he came on. Special shout out to Andy Hinchcliffe, is there a bigger twat of a commentator? Every compliment through gritted teeth and followed by "but they were shit in September", or "should have been a penalty against Stephens". Fuck off. Your international career is a winner on pointless and your chin looks like a saggy arse.

Nice try at being a pedant but if we match Leeds points over the rest of the season, regardless of the result against them, then we go up. Your point only exists if it comes down to the final game and if that's the case and we lose then we won't have matched their points tally will we?
-
Yeah, I did say it wasn't nailed on although I'll take issue with it being in Leeds hands - it's not, it's in ours. Win all our games (or exactly the same number as Leeds and or Ipswich) and we're promoted.
-
Obviously don't know if it's true or not but The Athletic is normally pretty good so if it's true then: Pretty stupid move by Man Utd - what's he done to justify it? Getting a parachute payment club promoted isn't a fantastic achievement - most relegated clubs bounce back within a couple of years and it's not even nailed on this year. Success in these types of roles needs to be judged over a longer period of time than JW has been here. If I were a player who had been asked or persuaded to stay by JW then I'd be f*cked off. Sheer hypocrisy. JW is the one talking about long term vision, he's been given an opportunity in a role he had no experience of and can't even stay a year? Fuck off.

10 points for automatisms, although you've for a big lad you'll be disappointed with the finish at the end.

I saw an interview recently with Gavin Newsom and that was the first time I'd really heard him speak in detail. He was quite impressive and certainly seemed to be a cut above both Biden and Trump. I think he's doing a tour of the red states at the moment? Michelle Obama with Barak as VP would be good but probably wishful thinking.
-
Yes, bit of a shock. Only listened to him on radio 1 but was a kind of schooldays soundtrack staple. RIP Steve

I'm a fan of Sulemana too but if you look at the output of both Edozie and Fraser, they've both outperformed Sulemana. I think he'll need to win his place back and I would have him as a sub option for now, plus Edozie is a little further ahead in terms of fitness.
-
I think he'll bring in Brooks for Adams, move A Armstrong down the middle, and Rothwell in for Downes. Leaves us a bit light in midfield and I'd play Charles but that's what I reckon Martin will do. Definitely can't see him dropping A Armstrong - I know many would but his stats are phenomenal this season. Has anyone else got more goal contributions?

Thought the same thing as I was driving home. Incredible atmosphere in the second half, loved it. Nothing beats being there for games like this.

What’s the team?

I suspect the Tucker Carlson interview will change very little. The majority of people who watch it will be right wing republicans who support Trump and are already of the opinion that support for Ukraine should stop. Rest of the world will carry on thinking Putin is a cunt. Pretty much business as usual then.

Forget Man City, we've had more possession than Linda Blair.
