Reastically you're right and add in the fact that Cardiff always seem to start well doesn't help either. However, this is the time we can still dream that things will go well so I'm going to pretend that the dutch revolution will work and our players will prove themselves with bright, smart and intelligent football. We'll be the Arsenal of this league (in fact Wenger will be so impressed he'll loan us his best young players). Just under two hours till reality kicks in.......

Erm nothing on this forum actually has any impact. I doubt any player about to sign will say to his agent, 'hold on, forget the talks about wages - let's find out what the forum views are first'. To be honest your posts are as pro-lowe as many others are anti lowe so you're hardly the voice of reason.

Not one of his better efforts but like most of his books it's readable - the ending isn't great though. It's interesting what he does with the same characters in 'The regulators'.

Just started 'Clockers' by Richard Price. Not seen the film but it's supposed to be good.

I think the most likely start to the season is we play well, look threatening but make a few crucial mistakes that cost us games. We won't mind initially saying 'well, if we play like that then we'll win more than lose'. This will go on for a month or so and the team will lose a bit of spark because they're not winning and the crowd will start to grumble. This will degenerate into an ever decreasing circle where the players feel less confident and as a result the crowd get on their back making them even less confident. JP will go defensive saying 'we need to keep clean sheets' - we probably will do but at the expensive of any flair. We'll wonder why we were excited at the start of the season. JP and the dutch revolution will be sacked just before the transfer window closes in January. We'll get a traditional manager in but he won't be able to bring anyone in. He'll probably hold the world record for standing up straight and shouting a lot. The football will remain the same. We'll escape relegation on the last day of the season and then appoint a new revolutionary coaching setup. Oh and we might be taken over......but we probably won't.

Excellent stuff. I remember trying to point out exactly what the paedophile special was trying to do though to people who clearly just wanted to be outraged. Some people just aren't very clever. Apparently Warren Mitchell used to get people congratulating him on Alf Garnett when in fact he was taking the **** out of people like him so I suppose some things never change..

I hope skacel stays - doesn't strike me as the type of player who won't try hard and I rate him a better fullback than Surman. Can hardly blame him for not wanting to take a pay cut, not many would, but it's not a reflection on his professionalism. Personally I think the way JP wants to play is tailor made for him.

Latvia are a member of the European Union so a work permit isn't a problem anymore. Seeing how hard Lowe tried to keep Pereplotkin I'd guess we stand as good a chance as any if we tried to sign him. He spent a fair while here so knows the area and I guess still knows a few players. I'd imagine this would be exactly the type of player we'd be looking for if we have any money (and it probably wouldn't be a huge outlay).

Think it depends on how long you've been supporting saints. There's a lot to get potentially excited about but........there's also a lot to be worried about. A largely untested youthful squad may unearth a few gems but may also make a lot of mistakes. Chuck in the likelihood of some big earners going (possibly a good thing but will leave us stretched) and it might not look so rosy. I'm hopeful but having been down this road many times before I'm also wary.
