  1. I knew someone would bring that up. It's true though and fair play to him but comparing managing us and Team Bath is like comparing apples and oranges. He could be great though but I've had enough of experiments, new coaching setups, revolutionary ideas etc....I'd rather have someone with experience. Appointing a new manager is a gamble whoever you choose but you're statistically more likely to succeed with an experienced manager.
  2. Do bar work. Lots of fun and a better education than university. Well I thought it was anyway.
  3. Don't know enough about Tisdale and I'd obviously support him if he were appointed but....I'm always a bit wary of managers who've only had success at one club. The setup at Exeter probably suits him but there's no guarantee that he can transfer that to us. He could be a total success (as could anyone) but I'd rather have someone with a bit more experience.
  4. Well for all of Dowie's innovation he still gets his players very fit, a bit like Strachan. He'll get us playing more direct and concentrate on being hard to beat and scoring goals - I wouldn't expect a team packed with flair but we're division 3 stuff now. I wouldn't complain if he was appointed. Personally I'd prefer Boothroyd - I know a lot slag him off but his Watford side always played us off the park and scored goals - it would be nice to do that to someone else.
  5. Breakfast? Too much hassle - I'd rather have a lie in, turn up late for work then grab something unhealthy.
  6. Cheers both of you. Obviously I'll take my time over it anyway but the bikes Baj suggested seem to fit the bill. Have to say the Triumph Bonny looks good - a step away from a first bike though and according to my Dad hasn't had great reviews but I think it looks good. PS One of the reasons I can afford to do this is my Grandad's just died and left me some money - why does probate take so long? And why do they take a percentage of the estate?
  7. yes, might cross that off the list. In fact my original price bracket of 3-4 grand might not really be sensible. It makes more sense to go for something that is safe but inexpensive and when I've learnt enough then go for something I really want. God, I hate my practical side! So I'd be looking for something around the 600cc mark (if I'm going to do the DAS course then I want to make it worthwhile). Easy to ride, maybe not flashy and certainly not scary fast. The one thing I am concerned about is my height, at 5ft 8" I'm not the tallest and I don't want to end up with a bike that looks great but I'm scared to take out. Any suggestions on a boring, practicle but hopefully ultimately fun bike?
  8. Cheers, yes you're right about the perils - my Dad broke legs, feet and lost the use of his foot for a year and none of it was his fault, another friend lost his spleen. This was why I didn't follow up my interest for so long but.....it's kind of in the blood. Have to say that now that I'm determined to take it back up I'm really excited! I'll let you all know how I get on... Also, any recommendations for a good starter semi practical bike would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking in the 3 -4 grand price bracket.
  9. Cheers, all good advice. The important thing for now is getting the license and then looking for a bike (though I'm sure I'll start looking earlier). As I'm only 5ft 8" I'll need something I can handle easily. The temptation is to get something very quick and very impressive but there's plenty of time for that - I'll resist. The topbox isn't gay at all, the sensible side of me is already thinking something along the tourer side of the street (though it does seem boring).
  10. Cheers! Nice looking machine, bet you can't wait? I'll confess that another reason for getting back into bikes is that i can't afford a decent car but can afford a decent bike! It'll be my main transport as well so I'm not looking at this as a weekend pursuit - I'm sure that'll be levelled at me after having 20 years away though! Who needs a motoring forum? We need a bikers forum (insert winky thing here).
  11. Thanks Baj, that's exactly the kind of thing I had in mind. I've toyed with the idea of getting back into bikes for a while but either not had the time or money. In a few months I'll be able to have both so it makes sense. I'm lucky that my Dad is still well into bikes so will give me good advice (even though he's just turned 60) and I'll confess one of the reasons is it'll be a shared interest for us. One of the reasons for being able to afford it is my Grandad has just died and I'd like to go for some rides with my Dad while we can both appreciate it. Plus it'll make the commuter run a lot more fun and quicker. I'll let you know how it goes.
  12. I'm thinking about taking up biking. Used to be well into it as a kid, had my own bike and used to do some trial bike stuff with my Dad but unfortunately he had a nasty accident when I was 15 and the whole thing was off limits. Now, some 20 years later I'm thinking it would be good to get back into it. I've had no experience since I was 15 so would appreciate any advice and suggestions. Looks like the DAS course would be a good route to go down. Anyone done this? What was it like and how much does it cost? Cheers
  13. 3 terms of "Orwellian type socialism"? Care to provide any examples of that? Closest we got was when Thatcher got the police and armed forces to infiltrate the miners strike. That was the closest we got to a police state, since then we've had career politicians pandering to the lowest common denominator and pretending to be all things to all people. BTW there is hope - people like you have left.
  14. Maybe a bigger turnout for the BNP would wake people up? Anyway, I'm spoiling my vote in the general election because quite simply there is no one who represents what I believe and until we get proportional representation there is no chance that my vote will count for anything anyway. I'd like a return to conviction politics and to ideology where politicians are unafraid to stand up for what they believe in instead of pretending to be all things to all people and pandering to focus groups.
  15. Yes, let's have a general election as soon as possible. Personally I can't get enough of the two parties arguing over their favourite colour (surely that's the only difference these days?) I can't wait for them both to promise lower taxes and increased spending on public services. Yes, let's have a summer of petty squabbling over the presentation of vacuous slogans. I'll be spoiling my vote again unless the Greens put up a candidate in my constituency.
  16. You want me to change my username? That's hardly fair, I've had it long before it was highjacked. This is political correctness gone mad etc etc. As for the rest I agree. Yours, Successful Saint
  17. Christian Bale swears by it.
  18. Just seen "Choke". I quite liked it but then I like most stuff Chuck Palahniuk has written though I hadn't read "Choke" before. Sam Rockwell as always is excellent.
  19. In what sense did the original post mention the lib dems? The one I quoted certainly didn't. Actually I do understand politics - I work for the government. That's any government that's democratically elected and without prejudice. All i'm saying is that the slogan "socialist" and particularly atypical socialist is a tired cliche that has no relevance within this thread. If it makes you feel better then fine but it doesn't make a better argument.
  20. Oh, and any MP caught out with bogus and irresponsible expense claims are conning the public whatever their party. To suggest that the Tories are less to blame because "we expect that from them" would give some indication as to why they lost power and remain in opposition, no? I don't recall any party manifesto claiming that they would endeavour to fiddle their expenses as much as possible so this is not a party issue - it's an individual thing.
  21. Atypical means different from and not conforming to the norm. Please try and use language correctly. Unless, of course, you mean that the current labour party is not in the least socialist in which case then you're right and I apologise.
  22. But Dr. Robert Oppenheimer's optimism failed at the first hurdle?
  23. In The kNow tonight?
  24. The other thing to consider is that would players be willing to give up or defer their pay if not all the other players did it? Say, for example, you're Kelvin Davies agree to defer wages for the good of the club and then see a colleague like BWP not follow suit? I'm not sure I'd be happy in that situation.
  25. Groundhog day, we've been here before - a rehash of Wilde's manifesto. It's quite funny and not in the least bit serious.
