  1. You were doing OK until you suggested Gillett was quick, incisive and attacking. I'd describe him as ineffective, prone to fouling and prone to giving the ball away but that's opinion for you. FWIW today was the first time Waigo convinced me he's got what it takes - he showed class, skill and pace. I'd start him. Antonio has been given a few starts now and personally I think Waigo deserves the same chance that he's got. Before today I thought Waigo was probably best on the bench but he's obviously been working hard and has earned a starting place - that could be right mid or up front but either way the lad has done enough to show us what he can do with a few starts.
  2. Who cares? Really, honestly, who actually cares about this? Those people who say this is another reason why they don't share the same passion for England as they do their club - it's a question of personal morality? Or some have said it's because they're overpaid? Surely you realise that even at div 1 level footballers are not saints (excuse the pun) and still overpaid. This is just a domestic issue and concerns only those directly involved. It's not remotely interesting and has no relevance. If this is the type of thing that floats your boat then it's probably best to stick to the pages of "Hello" and "Chat" rather than the back pages.
  3. Really? Are players personal lives that interesting to you? I just watch the football but maybe I'm missing out......
  4. Man has an affair with a colleague's girlfriend who he may not have been with at the time anyway. Big deal. Who really cares about players' personal lives? Or any "celebrity" for that matter? Unless of course you actually know them then it doesn't really make any difference does it? I've no doubt there will be a massive campaign to strip Terry of the England captaincy but that would be based on non-football reasons and a bit sad really. I'm sure everyone will disagree with me on this.....
  5. it won't be a million quid - that came from the fountain of all knowledge 606. If Plymouth had a player worth a million would they loan him out? Probably not. I'd be amazed if the fee is even half that.
  6. Frankly if the player is only on loan and says he's got a shot at a permanent deal and wants to go then MK Dons realistically can't stand in his way. Technically of course they could but they'd be left with a player who would resent the club and really wouldn't want to be there. The only way to recover the situation for them is to offer a permanent deal to Puncheon and if they can do that then fair play to them. Personally I think a left sided midfielder / winger is what we need. It frees up lallana, who I don't think is best on the wing and gives us more of a chance to deliver better crosses. Let's face it if you've got Lambert and Barnard up front then you want to provide as many quality chances as you can.
  7. We should do that every game - it'll guarantee promotion. I bet that's the reason we're extending Staplewood.
  8. I'm sure Solent were reporting that a Serie A club had offered Cortese a boardroom post this morning. Anyone else hear it?
  9. I voted undecided. I think he'd benefit from being given a decent run in the same position though and if that's on the right then I'd definitely start him in front of Antonio (who always looks better as an impact player off the bench anyway). To be honest if the agreed fee is 500K then I probably would sign him.
  10. I think he looks a great squad signing. Can provide cover on both wings as well as up front and has a bit of quality about him. Connelly isn't going to be able to play every game and frankly I'd have him on the left and move Lallana to the right (dropping Antonio) every time. There are question marks about his attitude but I'd guess we won't offer him anything if he doesn't impress in training. It's a no lose situation really.
  11. Maggie Thatcher Clive Dunn
  12. Someone pointed out on another thread that it should be "Wives Or Girlfriends", which would makes them "WOGS".
  13. Can someone summarise this thread for me?
  14. Leaving aside the moral side of this for a second, it would be completely impossible to achieve. Large government projects invariably fail, run over budget and over time. We'd probably get some private sector company to come in, throw money at them, sign up to giving them more money when the project screws up and then a bit more money when we inevitably pull out because it's unworkable. The country doesn't really have any money and if it did surely it should spend it on a better joined up patient administration system for the NHS or better communication between police authorities? A DNA database would have lots of benefits but they're far outweighed by the potential harm. Also, and I'm no scientist, how accurate is DNA? Is it open to interpretation? I honestly don't know but there have been a lot of miscarriages of justice based on forensic evidence and a reliance on experts that would make me think it might be wrong to have a reliance on any system.
  15. Referring to your organisation as 'The business' when working in the public sector. It's not a business, it's not run for profit and it's not there to extract the most money it can from it's "customers". It's a service. However, anyone who wants to do well in the public sector should always use 'The business' in as many conversations as possible - it virtually guarantees success.
  16. I emailed Bluestar saying it was asking a lot to expect people to make the 9 from West Quay at 5.10. I got the usual crap about how it was expensive to run boxing day buses etc etc. I replied back that maybe their advertising guff should say instead "Saints are playing at home on boxing day, take advantage of the bus and watch the 1st half and then leg it to make sure you're not stranded". The other thing to remember here is that the last bus back is guaranteed to be packed. Anyone relying on that bus can't count on getting on even if they make it on time.
  17. With season ticket prices this cheap it really makes sense. I'll confess I left it a while because I wanted to see how the season panned out but frankly we're scoring goals, winning games and the entertainment is good. I can't see any reason not to now if you would probably go to most games anyway.
  18. An account of last season whilst grim reading would be interesting. You'd have to get Crouch, Wilde, Lowe, Poortvleit and Wotte on board which is doubtful but you could definitely see something of "The damned united" in a book like that. Can't see the current regime commenting on anything since they've been in charge and that would probably be right and premature.
  19. This must be the only thread i agree with delldays. There are a lot of things that irritate me at matches - armchair commentators who think they know everything being the worst of them. However, they pay their money and if that's what they like then fine. Personally I like a few beers before during and after the game - when i chose my season ticket (yep, got one now) I made sure it was close to an aisle so I don't annoy anyone. The only thing I would say in defence of those that like a beer at half time is they are *probably* more likely to generate the atmosphere that makes football enjoyable. The tartan rug and flask brigade generate muttered criticisms and tutting and yes that maybe a generalisation too far.
  20. Well it doesn't make BTF's point irrelevant because exactly the same thing can happen in the UK government as has happened in this case. However, I'd agree with you that it's wrong. The whole point of government is that they are elected and accountable. I don't want anyone in the cabinet who isn't an elected MP and the same would go for the EU - anyone who isn't can be an advisor.
  21. But until you got everyone to participate in that not particularly accurate questionnaire then you'd never know would you? I'd say this forum is as representative of saints fans or the general public as any other forum. I see no one has come up with an idea why the monarchy is a good thing except for the fact that lots of people may or may not think it is.
  22. But the only thing that unites them is a liking for Saints? I'd agree with you if this was a loony lefty forum (or even a guardian one) but it isn't so unless Saints have suddenly become the spiritual home of tree huggers then i'd say it should contain a fairly broad demographic (in terms of political opinion).
  23. Shame I missed that. I'm fairly sure all the people on there would have been Saints fans (and by definition football fans) so I'm not sure what your point is?
  24. Are the majority of TSW members eligible for free school meals then? If they are then you're right but if not then you didn't read the article properly and have put yourself in the "thickie" group as you call it.
