  1. I haven't bothered to look into who is supposed to be buying Pompey this week but why would anyone want to buy them? Surely anyone looking to buy a club could get Newcastle, Palace or Stockport for similar or less money. All those clubs have better prospects than Pompey.
  2. Gary was the only reason I joined this site. Top bloke, great laugh and rubbish at 15-1. I'd have disagreed with almost everything he posted on this site but you couldn't help but like him. In full flow he had to be one of the funniest people I've met.
  3. I think the days when a degree (any degree) would land you a well paid job and good career are largely, but not completely, gone. Large organisations were always the firms that took graduates of any discipline on and they seem to be cutting back and concentrating on either more vocational qualifications or training people who choose not to go to university. When you've got the aspiration for 50% of 18 year olds to go to university it stands to reason that when searching for a job after graduating then it's going to be harder to stand out. Employers are going to say "Media studies? Big deal" Sorry for that generalisation. Bottom line is we're creating more graduates but I don't think we're creating more graduate jobs. That's not to say studying in itself isn't a great thing - it is. Most students will really enjoy it. That doesn't mean that whilst probably more sensible, more knowledgeable, more rounded than they were before that they will find it easy to get a job. I'd applaud anyone who wants to study more but sadly I'm not sure it's in their interests unless they have a clear goal about what they choose to do after graduating and study something relevant to that.
  4. I'm no expert in any kind of law or finance but the bottom the line the judge will surely be looking at is "Are Portsmouth worth saving? Is there a realistic chance they will get bought/bring in investment?" In short, are they doing more harm to creditors by staying in business than being out of it? I can't see any other answer "yes". They're still running up debts and with relegation a probability they'll run up more. It seems like a no-brainer to me. I'm not really clear about liquidation but if they did get liquidated would the sale of their assets be divided amongst creditors? If that's the case then I would have thought any creditor of PFC would be calling for liquidation - it's a more certain guarantee of at least some money than any of Storrie's promises.
  5. English? Really? I'm sorry, someone had to do it.
  6. There's been a bit of dredging up of history about Southampton dockers breaking strikes in Portsmouth (hence the nickname scummers) but I'd like to know more. I know some posters have claimed it's total fabrication, and I hope it is, but does anyone have any links for further information? Or any stories about it?
  7. I'm looking for a fairly cheap (although not necessarily the cheapest) digital camera. It'll be simply point and shoot because I know nothing about digital photography (or any other kind for that matter), any recommendations?
  8. I'd say give them the advance parachutte payment AND a 15 point deduction. If they want to set a precedent then it needs to be a precedent that clubs don't want to follow. The good thing about this is that they'll still be free to go into admin in the championship where we all know they'll have every rule in the book thrown at them. If Leeds, Bournemouth and Luton can have excessive points deductions then I think Pompey will be on a par with them.
  9. Yeah but since when has form on the pitch mattered? It's all about the celebrity news silly!
  10. I don't recall there being a problem at Cardiff (mind you I was back row which meant I could stand all game) and the ZDS had a good atmosphere. I think it'll be fantastic and whoever goes will be swept along in the atmosphere. I just can't see how the atmosphere will be anything but loud, enthusiastic and good fun.
  11. To be fair I thought he was taking the mickey out of them - the only consolation they have is having a dig at a third division club. Edit: Sorry, thought you were talking about the SSN presenter.
  12. Case adjourned till 2pm - weren't they hoping for 28 days?
  13. The funny thing is that both FA Cup finalists in 2008 are facing winding up orders on the same day - so obviously that FA Cup money doesn't have a lasting effect......
  14. You're right and to be fair we did tell her to sign the sodding thing as it would probably never be enforced but it does go to show the ridiculous things that sometimes get inserted into employment contracts.
  15. I'd expect our initial allocation to be around that number but get the impression we could probably take as many as we wanted. My guess is we could end up with an allocation of near 50,000 if we could sell them - I think we'll end up around the 45k mark.
  16. Nice to see Cortese and Liebherr standing up and cheering the team about two minutes before the final whistle. I'm surprised a steward didn't turf them out for standing though.
  17. I'd agree about Jaidi - Ken Monkou was the same and always had a dodgy game whenever he came back from a break.
  18. SSN is quite funny at the moment. On the breaking news strap they have "Portsmouth claim talks with HMRC are on going" closely followed by "Sky Sports Sources understand talks between Portsmouth and HMRC have stalled".
  19. yes, and now the reporter outside FP has said it's "highly unlikely they'll be liquidated given they still have games to play and revenue from that".....erm aren't they losing more than they're bringing in?
  20. Trouble is a lot of contracts contain clauses people wouldn't normally sign up to......but they need a job. My sister is a solicitor and in her first job she was advised not to sign the contract because it contained a clause saying if she left then she wouldn't take up a position in another law firm withing 15 miles of the city centre for six months. She didn't have a "proper" contract of employment in the whole time she was with that firm. In my experience though union advice tends to be pretty good. I've never had anyone "sugar coat" what they say and at least you'll know where you stand.
  21. I'm guessing you know it's not a female voice?
  22. I think the thing here is that you give the impression that you're always negative. It may not be true and it may not be your intention but that is the feeling amongst most people. There's been a few occasions where I've met a fellow supporter, asked if they post or look on here and they say "That Alpine - what a ****". Maybe that's the reaction you're looking for though? I've nothing against you but you can't really be surprised when you get stick, can you?
  23. My grandad was in the Tank core. I've no idea what unit but he was born in Frimley so probably a local one. I think he operated a flame thrower though i could be mistaken and he spent a lot of time in Belgium and Germany. He never really talked about it either but I imagine it's not an easy topic to either bring up or talk about. I really should find out more about it.
  24. As the point of this thread is about whether we'd be surprised well, no, I wouldn't be surprised. Reading the Guardian article today it does imply that a lot of pressure is being put on Pardew for both results and good football. I don't think we'll get any change before the end of the season but maybe in the summer. As Cortese and Liebherr seem to want decent football I wouldn't expect someone like Davies or Boothroyd but there is someone out there who was rumoured to be the first choice candidate before Pardew that has a reputation for getting promotion and playing good football; Steve Coppell. He even knows Wally Downes. Do I think this is a good idea? I don't know. Personally I'd probably give Pardew a decent chance for next season but NC and ML may not feel we have the luxury of time.
  25. I'm all for sensible debate so can everyone refrain from calling labour politicians "socialist"? They're not and no one except a few weird people claim they are. Dennis Skinner and Tony Benn excepted of course.
