Bit of a classic that one. Maybe not on the scale of the 1st Morales V Barrera fight but certainly up there. Great to see Morales roll back the years.

Probably just beginners luck :-) -

Yep, total mystery to me. What would be your tip then? This twenty quid is burning a hole in my pocket. A few years ago I did have a successful stint on betting on boxing - got a 1st round KO for Calzaghe, Rachman knocking out Lewis and Barrera beating Hamed. I should probably stick with that. -

I know nothing about horses but tend to try and follow a few rules - don't bet on the favourite, go for something with stamina and rarely falls. I went with paddy power as I got £20 free so I've gone for: Ballabriggs - £5 E/W @ 14/1 West End Rocker - £2 E/W @ 33/1 Golden Kite - £3 E/W @ 66/1 That's my initial £20 gone so got the free £20 still to use. Might have a punt on something to win or just stick to football and boxing which I know better. -
Best one was the week after the "WW2 Bomber found on moon" headline where they just showed a picture of the moon and had the headline "WW2 bomber mysteriously vanishes from moon". To be honest I'd rather people read the Sport than The Sun though......at least they didn't pretend they knew what they were talking about.

If we're talking about who we want to go down then generally I'd just turn the table on it's head. I'd probably add West Ham though just because their fans are utter tw*ts.

Have you tried the temp bank at Southampton Uni? Normally got a fair bit of work available. Most of the time I did barwork all year round although one summer I combined it with working at Esso which was by far the best paid.

All fans are the same regardless of the club they support. Some are mongs and some aren't. Proximity makes you notice them more and so because of circumstance we've happened to notice Boscombe a bit more. They've probably always had their fair share of prats but it's just that now we've had to acknowledge them a bit. In Boscombe's case it's a shame as we've always had a bit of a soft spot for them - no problem though as I'm not that bothered. As for Brighton - there's plenty spouting off. Let's face it though - most fans, regardless of who they support, have sung "we're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen" which just goes to prove how deluded we all are.

I'm not noticing any less traffic. I guess maybe motorways would notice it if train journeys become cheaper than driving but from the waterside to southampton it's still the pain it's always been. Buses are still more expensive than driving to work as well, I did public transport for two years when I couldn't park at work and now I can park I'm still saving money by driving. The other thing to remember is that even if public transport was considerably cheaper (which it isn't) then to really make a saving then you'd have to totally give up the car. As much as I hate public transport I'd still be willing to do it again but it's more expensive and that can't be right.

Remember seeing them at the Guildhall years ago. I even splashed out on the single Blue Tonic before the 1st album was released and I hardly ever buy singles. At the time I thought they'd be huge but it never quite happened.

You can see how we'd probably be a more sensible proposition than Fulham. He'd stand more chance of getting 1st team action and at a level that would give him a decent chance to shine. Also fits in with the development squad side of things. No idea what he's like though. All I've found is defender who can also play in midfield.

I think that younger end of the market could get you in trouble....

Has Ed Miliband shot himself in the foot?

I largely agree with you on this and would put myself in the same class of having gone to University but probably didn't need to. However I saw "Inside Job" the other day and it brought up an interesting point about how to replace manufacturing jobs that disappear to developing countries. The argument was that 1st world countries would need to try and invest in "knowledge markets" and other new technologies which would require higher education. Take the gaming industry in the UK, by all accounts it's doing pretty well, and it's this type of industry that may provide opportunity and wealth in the future. Of course I'm not arguing that every current degree being offered is useful but it was a good point about how we might be able to compete in the future. We won't be able to compete with developing nations on costs so we'll need to concentrate on quality and innovation and in that instance Higher Education could be invaluable. -
Easy to generalise on a thread like this and not all single mothers are the same just as not all single women without kids are the same. It's never really bothered me and in fact the kid aspect opens the opportunities like going to theme parks and doing genuine kid stuff that can be pretty good fun (and no, not in a pervy way). Of course it's also more restrictive as well. The other thing to bear in mind is that single parents don't have a lot of free time and, if they're a good parent, are dedicated to their child or children. Even if you get on you might find you don't have much in common either. Ultimately though everyone is different but you if exclude purely on the basis of having kids then you may be missing out.

Did the earth move for you? For whom the Bell Tolls was the first Hemingway book I'd read and once I'd got past the the sparce style I really enjoyed it. I sometimes find him a bit hit and miss but that's definitely a good one.

I guess it's really got to be Lallana - best player technical in the division by a mile and we struggle without him. Can't fault his workrate or commitment either. Barney has to come close though.

Some excellent books in there. One flew over the cuckoo's nest is superb (and better than the film) as is 1984. Communist Manifesto is a bit of a dry read but doesn't take long to read. If you're into revolutionary pamphlets then try Thomas Paine. Got myself a kindle a couple of weeks ago and the ease of buying books is frightening. Besides getting a load of free classics I've also bought: Manufacturing Consent - Edward Herman & Noam Chomsky A people's history of the United States - Howard Zinn Sleepers - Lorenzo Carcaterra World War Z - Max Brooks I'm going to have to exercise some discipline in buying books.

This thread isn't about that though and it's getting boring reading accusations and counter accusations. Frankly I really don't care.

Shame Dune decided to turn this a bit personal. I've no thoughts whatsoever about VFFT as I don't know the facts but I do know it has nothing to do with the OP. In future Dune just tell VFFT that you don't like him, and then the rest of us can carry on what was an interesting thread.

No, because it was all true (and in fact they offered me a better job later). She'd had time off with stress before I'd joined (they found her on a window ledge once) so they knew she wasn't suited to the job and staff turnover in her team was much higher than it should have been - she really was the reason everyone was leaving. When the signs came back that she was struggling again we told her bosses and they just shrugged it off. Once things came to a head they had to act but it was a shame it had to come to it. Thing is she was actually good at her job but couldn't handle the pressure at all - I've heard since that she got another job with no staff responsibility which was the best thing for everyone.

Whilst I can see the logic in P'boro wanting to postpone the match if arguably their best player gets called up I can't see the logic in trying to manufacture that possibility themselves. What would be the point? Do they want a fixture backlog like we have? I doubt it. -
Funny how I just knew it would be this song you would be referring to and I agree - it's terrible. Then again has George Michael ever done anything decent?

My Dad saw an incident on the motorway where one car was repeatedly cutting up another. Eventually the car being cut up pulled over onto the hard shoulder but the other bloke just pulled over as well, got out and pulled the drivers window out before punching the other bloke repeatedly. Fair play to my Dad - he pulled over and started to walk toward the other car but the bloke doing the punching decided to scarper. The funny thing was my Dad called the police, ambulance and the fella's girlfriend - when she arrived she started on my Dad until the bloke still spitting out teeth explained what had happened.

My current boss is fantastic. She knows her stuff, gets things done and is supportive. My last two were f*cking nightmares. One of them was doped up to the eyeballs on prozac and constantly on the verge of a breakdown. She had us filling out timesheets with any tasks and how long they took correct to the minute. I put up with it for about 9 months and snapped. I told her she was a mental case, that everyone hated her and she was the reason everyone wanted to leave - they sent her home crying and on the plus side abandoned the timesheets. She later asked me how she could help and I replied that short of getting me another job there wasn't much she could do. I was a bloody hero for a while and I don't regret it at all, granted she was mentally ill but we'd gone to management repeatedly saying she was struggling and taking it out on us and got nowhere - at least that forced them to act.

Don't bullsh*t - everyone smells it a mile off and ultimately it won't do you any good. If I'm interviewing then I want to know that this is a person I can work with and that won't necessarily be the person with the best qualifications or experience - you'll need to hit minimum requirements and excel if you can but don't pretend. You'll need to prepare well, look at your application and be prepared to back up any claims you made with solid examples - and make sure you have a lot of them. Probably one of the first questions you'll get is to tell them about your current role, or experience, so rehearse that one as it'll set the tone for the interview. If you can then be as much as yourself as possible, sympathise with any problems they bring up and show how you've at least encountered the same even if you haven't overcome them. Sometimes though the die is cast before you even enter the room. It's an unfortunate fact of life but sometimes no matter how good an interview you give and for whatever reason you just have to chalk it up to experience - every interview will make you more comfortable in that situation again. Oh and if they ask a bullsh*t and vague question then ask them to explain it. Chances are they'll tell you what you need to know to answer it without having to be as vague as they were when asking it.
