Let's be honest, there isn't much competition for his place unless Dan N'Lundulu comes good.

Southampton 500/1 to win the Premier League
Charlie Wayman replied to Saint Keef's topic in The Saints
There was £78m at stake on Euromillions on Tuesday night and only a £2.50 bet needed to win it. The odds of winning must have been far greater than 500-1 but One lucky badger did win it. -
It seems unlikely certainly at this level and almost impossible here with Ralph's style of football which demands supreme fitness, stamina and aggression. Sam will have suffered psychological as well as physical damage which inevitably will have taken its toll. How willing will he be to fully commit again with the nagging doubt of injuring himself badly once more? I hope he recovers fully and if he so wishes, to continue his career as a professional footballer. From all accounts he is a bright lad and should have other career options.

Bit early to write off Smallbone yet.
-
Bit harsh, the lad had only joined the club a couple of days beforehand and had very little idea of our patterns of play and the high intensity press. My guess is that he will surprise a lot of people and become a regular starter. Redmond is most at risk of a Walcott takeover as Walcott can score goals.

Pity Leeds spoiled our party, it would have been nice to have been the first team to beat both these unbeaten teams. If we play as well as we did yesterday we might get our traditional 4-0 scoreline against them.

That's the beauty of watching it on i player on Monday morning, all the boring guff can be ignored by moving the timer slider along. No need to watch the Emirates bore fest or all that pre-match Everton love in crap and with the added bonus of switching off the minute the pundits do their bit. What's not to like. Ralph would be proud of such organisation. Thoroughly recommend it.

He is clearly a first choice. Some of us have never doubted his ability he just needed to be given decent run in the side. He'll be hard to dislodge now. Diallo can replace Armstrong and Walcott for Redmond.

I'm getting quite fond of this Hasenhüttl chap. JWP & OR looked a superb combination today, they have developed a fantastic partnership and find each other time and time again instinctively. The win didn't surprise me, we are making solid progress and dominating midfield against most teams where games are won or loss. Nobody played poorly today but Redmond was never MotM. A good win against Villa next week and we'll start looking like we belong in the top six. One observation, Armstrong looked ill all match and should not in my opinion have been playing. He ran his socks off as usual but he didn't look completely clear of C19. Surprised the medics allowed him to play. Romeu has been the stand out player for Saints this season. We are very lucky to have him.

Keeping Track of the Contracts 2024-25
Charlie Wayman replied to Over land and sea's topic in The Saints
According to Goal, Bertie is poised to sign a new three year deal at Saints. Smart move all round. -
There'll be a couple of chaps in white coats and specs calling round your place later today. Don't make a fuss just go with them, it's for your own good;-)

He's untested at this level so certainly will not start but may get on for last few minutes if we are still in the game and comfortable but will be risky if we're behind.

Saints vs Everton - Build up & Match Thread
Charlie Wayman replied to SuperSAINT's topic in The Saints
That's what I would do. -
It seems to me that a European Super League is becoming more and more inevitable; in some respects it is surprising that it hasn't happened already. Of course the timing of this new proposal is terrible in the midst of the pandemic but the disarray and disruption caused by the C19 virus provides the perfect cover for the opportunists to promote them. Exploit uncertainty! At the root of it all is money and greed and it is no coincidence that US banks and financial institutions are deeply involved with US owned clubs to the forefront. The problem of course is not that English and other countries national leagues cannot survive if dominant rich clubs leave national leagues but it will be at crippling cost as TV revenues and big brand advertisers migrate to the new super league. So while it may appeal to the little Englander spirit in many of us to get back to more competitive national leagues, in reality it would likely be calamitous as clubs are reduced to existing on match day attendances and local advertisers for their revenues. This is a direct threat and challenge to the Premier League and they could find themselves being cast in the unlikely role of potential saviours of English football but if this proposal gains traction it seems there is little they can do to stop it. Football clubs are private enterprises and can do whatever they think is in their best interests. Perhaps the best the PL might expect to achieve is to link to and argue for promotion and relegation from top national leagues to the new super league to keep national football relevant.

Saints vs Everton - Build up & Match Thread
Charlie Wayman replied to SuperSAINT's topic in The Saints
Carlo Ancelotti has won 20 trophies in his career, he is a superb manager and would not have rolled up at Goodison Park if he could not have seen real potential to win more trophies there. It's not that he needs the money or the risk of damaging to his reputation on no-hopers. In the same way as Ralph Hasenhüttl has seemingly transformed Saints' fortunes in relative short order why should we not expect Everton players to respond and adapt to Ancelotti in the way that they have? Of course some of their players are the same 'dross' that we have seen before but then again so are half the Saints team. Forget what has gone before this is a new Everton and a totally different challenge for us. We are playing well (at times) and there is no reason why our "work in progress" team cannot go there and match their "work in progress" team and we have the advantage of being together longer. It will be a tough game and we need to be at our best for 95 minutes not 45 but we have home advantage in front of our own empty seats so 2-1 is on the cards if we turn up that is. -

It seems to be a regular scheduled Sky Sports match so should be £9.99 for a day pass if you don't have Sky -
Obafemi doesn't impress even at that level. I hope his career is not gong backwards. No excuse at all for what he did whatever the provocation. Hard to see why our goal was disallowed.

Theo Walcott may not be able to play but his insider knowledge of Everton players and tactics must be of use to our coaching staff. Ralph may have a selection headache in midfield but no doubt will field the same starting XI as yesterday with Armstrong in for Theo. People have been too harsh on Jan Bednarek this weekend, they should remember that he played a lot of minutes for Poland during the break. He will be much better next weekend. The idea of recalling Stevens horrifies me. -
Jannik Vestergaard - Official: Signs for Leicester
Charlie Wayman replied to ChiefScummer's topic in The Saints
Presumably they factored in the arrival of Ralph Hasenhüttl as well. -
The trick will be to keep Theo's obvious enthusiasm and delight bubbling along which means giving him plenty of game time. Once he is fully fit and up to speed on Ralph's playing style it might be hard to leave him out of the starting line-up.

Brilliant Lads. Made us proud today. Vestergaard MotM x 2

All to play for. Bednarek needs a rest. Walcott all at sea at the moment, needs to stay wider and keep Chilwell busy. Still looks like 2-2 to me. Pity Ings doesn't get the service that Werner has. Romeu and Ward Prowse playing well. Adams looks to be the weather link, just isn't thinking quickly enough.

The total rejection of Project Big Picture and this guy being a Yank might have something to do with the delay. It was Yanks that proposed it after all.
