This sad news confirms what many of us feared. Still, he is bright lad and has time to start and succeed in another career. We must wish him the very best of luck for his future.

Saints CEO Martin Semmens interview - 26th July 2020
Charlie Wayman replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
Fair point. The question is, has he ever asked Mr Gao for funds to buy better quality players and pointed out that if we stand still or make do and mend the outcome becomes inevitable? If he walks away for a better offer this summer as rumoured it would confirm that he has had enough of the financial restraints placed on him by Mr Gao* and that he has asked for more money but been rebuked. *My way or the highway -
Saints CEO Martin Semmens interview - 26th July 2020
Charlie Wayman replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
Yes but good managers challenge owners not just whimper and cowtail. If he knew that it was impossible to run a club sustainably in the PL then he should have said so at the beginning. By not doing so he has been complicit in our decline -
You don't have to look very hard to see the pattern as Wurzel pointed out in the first post of this thread. Hardly an 'agenda' Results count not excuses.
-
Don't be too hard on yourself, we can tolerate your ramblings.
-
You're easily satisfied. It's not normal at all to lose virtually every PL match since Christmas. No other club would have tolerated such mind-bogglingly poor performance form a manager. He's way past his sell-by date.
-
All fine and dandy but it's a tactic that has never worked for us. It's a pointless vanity project for the big man.
-
The English Football League contains several Welsh teams so it's not the English Football League at all; nor has the inclusion of Welsh clubs "destroyed" Welsh football at grass roots level. I am all for the inclusion of Scottish Clubs in the League structure if they qualify on merit and I am not talking about Celtic & Rangers exclusively. If anything it might enhance the prestige and recognition of Scottish football at all levels. As for Ms Sturgeon's ambition of an independent Scotland, people should not rush to judgement that this will be a slam dunk.
-
A tad unfair, he seemed genuinely pleased to support Saints and rarely missed a match.
-
I do not agree. It is just as risky to entrust him with our very limited resources to bring in new players that make no impact at all and we end up exactly where we are now. His picks have not covered themselves in glory so far. Give what money we do have to a new coaching team, they cannot possible do worse than our current level of performance.

Defending free kicks with a player lying down behind the wall
Charlie Wayman replied to jawillwill's topic in The Saints
Your contribution is just as good without the unnecessary expletive. You do seem to use that word rather a lot and it does you no credit. -
Not sure about that. More likely he'll be forgotten in 18 months like most of our ex-players, defectors, traitors call them what you will. I don't think his injury record will change with the colour of his shirt sadly and for that reason few will want to take a chance on him unless he leaves on a free next summer. The Scousers really did con us out of £20m, bet they couldn't believe their luck. Was that about £1m per goal? Don't get me wrong, on his day he is mesmerisingly brilliant.

Success is relative to the challenge. As Ralph reminds us continuously the PL is the best, toughest, most competitive league in the world and it as this level he has failed. The past is the past but it's what is happening now that judges him. We've all been figuring out what's gone wrong since Christmas and the collective intelligence of the Forum has finally arrived at the conclusion that the problem is Ralph.
-
Mañana! Mañana! Always Mañana! What is the point of kicking the bloody can down the road? The problems won't go away, they are too deep rooted and endemic. Hasenhüttl has had nigh on three years to sort out the mess that he has created. We have seen the best of him and the worst We have to grasp the bloody nettle and grasp it now, get rid and give a new man a chance to look at this squad and decide who stays and who comes in. We can talk this thing to bloody death but it changes nothing.
-
Fact is his style of football doesn't work in the PL. Why the club have allowed him nearly 3 years to confirm this is anybody's guess. It can only be his charm in front of the cameras that keeps him in his job in this media obsessed age. Any publicity is good publicity. One day, Semens will wake up and see the naked truth! The longer that Ralph is here, the greater the confirmation of the incompetence and ineffectuality of the management team that keeps him in post.
-
Same old post-match day, same old disappointment. Nothing ever changes. What's the point of the same old comments on our performance. Ralph clearly rattled in his post match presser. Perhaps he is approaching the end game in this drama?
-
Bertie didn't do much wrong tonight so why pick on him.
-
Ralph seemed almost defeated at his pre-match comments on the OS. Citing the need for a summer overhaul of his squad, he gave the very firm impression that he doesn't really expect to get the sort of backing in the transfer market that he would like to see. Preparing the ground for an exit? His belief in this team seems to have evaporated. If he is not really up for it any more how does he expect his players to perform tonight? His mood will be infectious so if what we saw in this interview is what is happening at Staplewood then expect a lukewarm response tonight. Oh dear, another heavy defeat on the way.
-
Ralph might as well mix and match for this one. No point in playing our "strongest team" when clearly it has proven itself to be useless anyway. Salisu deserves a shot at it, probably drop Bednarek, give JWP and Ings a rest, time for the youngsters to be given another chance. We can't win anyway so might as well use the opportunity to plan for next year.

The people behind this (mostly Yanks) have a global perspective. Their closed shop model is no different to NFL and Formula 1. What they want is a high quality circus - no doubt soon to be called a World Series - that travels the world plying its trade wherever the money rolls in to pay for it, indifferent to moral constraints like human rights abuses and authoritarian regimes. Expect game to be played in US, China, Russia and so on in future as well as in Europe. They won't stop at Europe so we can expect South American teams to join in the future adding Brazil and Mexico to the mix. The real sadness is that none of this is boycotted by fans who otherwise take the moral high ground, happy to watch Lewis Hamilton win every race without much competition. Does anybody talk about Formula 3 any more?
-
On the head! Classic Tory distraction technique. Bet Bojo has never been near a football ground in his life. Prince William is President of the FA is he not so this could be a little tricky for him 'though.
-
Well yes but far more will not. The only money Sky has ever conned out of me has been during this Covid year and solely because I could watch pretty much every Saints match without consent interruptions. Personally I am not in the least bit interested in watching any other team play so it will all pass me by. Of course if it happens it is bound to have an impact on Saints but that is something we will all have to think about in the future.

Southampton 0-1 Leicester - Match Thread
Charlie Wayman replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
What a complete waste of time that was. Spineless bunch of nincompoops. Time for a clear out. Reminded me of the white flag surrender at Cardiff in 2003. What is the point of battling your way to Wembley and then giving up without a fight. -
Southampton 0-1 Leicester - Match Thread
Charlie Wayman replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
In all honesty, no matter how much one might wish and hope for a different outcome, Saints have little chance of over-coming Leicester this evening. We are in a very poor run of form and apart from the Burnley result that is beginning to look more freakish by the day there is little to suggest that we might cause a major upset. Our defence in particular has lost all cohesion with several players way out of form. Passion alone will not achieve the result we want. Unless Diallo & JWP somehow miraculously get their acts together individually and collectively our midfield will be over-run by a Leicester side that revels in long crosses to fast running strikers; we know from bitter experience how well our centre backs cope with that kind of threat. Despite players "being up for the Cup", I can't see it happening. 3-0 to Leicester. -
Presented without comment and no wonder, what is there to say? After the much publicised shake-up of the Academy, the impact of the new direction and management team is producing the sort results that provide proper training for our lads at they prepare for first team duties. Keeping our traditions alive is very important.
