  1. We were in administration not too long ago so we have not always been so prudent. It is a recent phenomenon. In fact we were extremely lucky that Marcus Leibherr fancied us for some strange reason. On the other hand a football club doesn't exist just to balance the books every year.
  2. Transfer windows usually go very wrong for saints
  3. Bloke has no self awareness, he seems to think that our shambolic defensive performances are solely down to the players (ref: Echo article last week). Sooner he's gone the better. He's useless.
  4. Unless Norwich & Watford have significantly improved their squads since last year's relegations it is difficult to see how they will fare any better than they did last time and of course Brentford are third best in the Championship. It is hard to see past these three going straight back down. None of them have the quality or spending power of the few clubs like Wolves or Leeds who have established themselves in the top flight recently. The gap is huge. Having said that Saints will do well to avoid the drop, heaven only knows where they will find 40 points to survive from recent showings, it will be a formidable challenge. Start badly and we will be in trouble and Hasenhüttl will be gone by Christmas. Between these four for the drop.
  5. The mystery of the "behind closed doors" match has evaporated that's for sure. Why not play Pompey instead of some obscure European side if fans will be allowed in. Guaranteed sell out and lots of overtime for our local bobbies.
  6. So all teams in red & white stripes go down but wait.... Brentford have been promoted so there you go a red & white candidate for the Big Drop. Phew! Saints saved again!
  7. The simple answer is don't be suckers, don't get mugged! Getting hooked up yearning for a seat that you have sat in for umpteen years is a mugs game and one that inevitably you will lose sooner or later as prices soar. Scraping together the extra money to secure it today will not guarantee you anything next year. As others have said the football won't be any better so if you have to move to another block to watch it and to stay within your budget so be it. Even better just stick two fingers up at them and walk away, There will be nothing going on there that you will miss for long. Fact is post Covid with social distancing and reduced attendances all seats will eventually become more expensive just to generate the income to keep he club running. What I am puzzled about is that these simple economics will apply to planes, cruise ships, trains and everything in future so why does the club think it necessary to dress it up as "an improved experience" and by sticking padding on a few seats? Lots of people wanted to fly on Concorde but never did as they couldn't afford it. Lots of people wanted to dine at The Ivy but never did as they couldn't afford it. The rich have always had first dibs at the best of everything and always will. Get used to the idea that for most of us, more and more affordable pleasures that we have always taken for granted will become less and less affordable. Premier league football is no exception to this paradigm. The fact that club football's origins lay in working class communities has become irrelevant, only money matters now; those who can pay will always win!
  8. Gareth Bale would be a better bet. Get him back as well and we could convert Staplewood into a retirement home.
  9. OK so tell me what he has done that has been outstanding thi season
  10. Shirt - Stripes. OK, no more than that. Excruciatingly embarrassing video. Need new PR department. Don't give up the day job JWP. Tella being groomed as our new glamour boy...
  11. Ings is over-rated. Where are the 20 goals a season that we all thought he'd deliver? Defenders find him easy to play against.
  12. Bring back Brad Friedel
  13. I am sick to the back teeth of this aimless crap that Hasenhüttl serves up every week. No way will I be renewing my season ticket until that idiot is gone. Every week the Hasenhüttl worshipers make excuses for him but this match proves how useless he is. It's a distraction to blame players when it is the organisation and style of football that we play that brings about one disaster after another. Don't challenge me with the old chestnut "who could we attract who would do any better". On this and recent showings any decent manager with PL experience couldn't fail to get better results. On Sunday the players looked as bewildered as most of us for much of the match. Truth is they have been drilled to play in a certain way and have become so rigidly compliant that they have no idea what to do when it all goes tits up. Surely they are not so bad that a new manager couldn't turn them into a half decent team.
  14. There is chance we could be a much better team without him. At the moment it seems every player has been given instructions to give the ball to JWP in the middle third but by making him the only pivot and creator we can be missing out massively on the teams natural flair and creativity. I'd like to see one game without him on the pitch to see how our fortunes change.
  15. Very eloquently argued.
  16. He will not be leaving us. Not in his DNA, this is his home.
  17. Great news and a great story for the commies when we're on TV. Pity we had to sell him in the first place. I wonder if he'll become involved with the Academy as time goes by?
  18. It was a football match not a war. The best team won. It wasn't a dirty match so why not shake hands and move on afterwards? It's supposed to be a sport even if you lose.
  19. Well, it was pretty plain to see last night that even without all the disruption of injuries, a near full strength Saints team just isn't good enough to compete in the top half of this league no matter how much we would like them to. Leeds contained us easily in the first half and in the second they were clever enough to exploit our weaknesses and pick us off at will as we tired and lost our pace and recovery. Why Ralph didn't start Danny Ings must go down as one of his poorest decisions. When we were at our most effective he wasn't there to exploit the opportunities created. When he did come on we had become largely ineffective at creating chances so he was left to forage. What is he saving Ings for at this stage of the season? Baffling. Whilst I admire Ralph's touchline enthusiasm, did it really help players to have him bellow instructions at them every time they got near the ball... "go, go go Redders!" - when the lad was miles away from the ball and ... "the other way!" - as Tella received a cross field ball in the middle of the pitch. Does it really help? Do the coaching at Staplewood Ralph and trust the players on the pitch, is my advice. In short "Shut it!" Ralph My goodness we are desperately in need of a shot or two in the arm in this summer's transfer window.
  20. You've been around long enough to know that our players are only allowed one poor game before the abuse kicks in. Diallo is the latest target. There is no way back for Redmond. Only Forster has managed to retrieve some measure of respect but he had to leave for a couple of years to do so.
  21. He just doesn't seem to possess a grain of self awareness. Best to ignore him and not respond
  22. Are you for real? Behave like that and another lockdown is almost guaranteed. For starters singing is not allowed and you will be required to wear a mask. Try to act responsibly and who knows the number of new cases of Covid will not rise dramatically and you will get another chance to watch Saints in action soon
  23. Really should compare like with like, it was the Fulham lads second PL outing whereas Tella has featured quite a few times this season.
  24. A reasonably solid display against a poor Fulham side but we were still stretched too easily in defence and better sides would have punished us more severely for our errors. Salisu acquitted himself well but we need to sort out his best position to get the best from him. It seems Ralph is trying to turn him into a left back to compensate for the loss of Bertrand and so as not to have to choose which two of three equally meritorious CBs to play in the middle and which one to leave out. With KWP bombing forward and Salisu more or less anchored at RB, we looked very lopsided and it showed with Redmond more or less isolated on the left wing and getting little service from the fullback or the MF. People will criticise him for his poor attacking performance today but it's a team game and if he doesn't get the ball played into him what is he supposed to do? There were several occasions when the obvious out-ball was to Redmond standing in clear space but the ball went the other way across a crowded midfield and invariably the moves broke down. Some very poor game reading here by the MFs and CBs. Nice little cameo from Tella with a well taken tap in and an equally delicious flick for Walcott to finish with aplomb. Nice to see some clinical finishing for a change. HIs instinctive reaction finish in a crowded box capped another committed display from Adams. Not sure about MotM but it was one of those days where nobody shone but everyone played their part. Leeds will be a tougher test.
