  1. It's not only the Saints team whose confidence is shot, mine too! I have a dreadful feeling this could end up as another embarrassing performance. There are no goals in our team at the moment unless Elyonoussi can step up, apart from him where will a goal come from? With our penchant for at least one defensive cock-up per game, a clean sheet seems unlikely especially against a fast attacking Leeds side. So nowt for us and 0-2 seems to be the right call. Sorry lads but many of you must have similar thoughts.
  2. Oh dear! You could be in trouble for this comment. Ill advised.
  3. Your point being?
  4. I'm calling you out as your random reference to Nigel Adkins is totally unfair. During his brief but wonderful tenure as our manager, Nigel provided fans with some of the best memories we have ever had in our history. I for one will never forget him or his infectious optimism. “This is the best of me. For the rest, I ate and drank, and slept, loved and hated, like another; my life was as the vapour and is not; but this I saw and knew; this, if anything of mine, is worth your memory.”
  5. I am always suspicious of people who talk a lot and quickly, gloss over facts as they gallop along and are endlessly reassuring. Their strategy of course is to head off embarrassing questions; lets face it there were quite a lot of points of conjecture in this monologue that were missed by not intervening and asking challenging questions at the time. According to this gospel of St Semmens everything is going to plan and is either under control or controls are being put in place to ensure the future outcomes are those that are desired. I am not buying it. Things are not at all rosy and as far as one can tell not going to plan. Effective action to address problems is hampered by complacency and an inability to grasp nettles, classic senior management weaknesses. Horseman's situation is a case in point and arguably accountability for poor first team performances is long overdue. Not all change is good but no change is certainly not good.
  6. Seriously, the club should buy this land for future use. For now they could relocate the Fans Zone with a cafe next to the landscaped river bank. This is an opportunity for future development that should not be lost.
  7. What an odd and bigoted thing to say without qualification or detailed assessment. As you rarely visit the place then clearly your knowledge of modern Southampton is close to zero thus rendering you remarkably unqualified to pass an opinion. Southampton is a modern, industrial city that has received a huge amount of investment and development over the last 20 years and from many different perspectives is now the equal of most cities in the UK and certainly of the majority of similar size. It is indisputably the UK's premier passenger port and a destination for most of the World's cruise ship fleets. It is particularly attractive to young upwardly mobile professionals that are bringing a new life and dynamism to many parts of the City that were once frowned upon by the economically less empathetic. What it is not is an historical relic petrified in time and reliant on tourism for its very existence even though it has its fair share of historical attractions. It has a vibrant river, an appealing waterside and close views and proximity to one of the UK's foremost National Parks.
  8. Hear! Hear! Not only a fabulous player but a great clubman and all round decent bloke. Remember also when he ran his greengrocery shop in Shirley High Street and could often be found standing around outside "shooting the breeze" with locals as they walked by. Watching Terry run the right wing beating player after player before crossing pinpoint on to Ron's head will remain in my memory forever! There really was only 'One Terry Paine'.
  9. What a complete load of tosh!
  10. JWP was OK but too many safe and sideways passes and as a result England lacked penetration. Better in second half presumably after a bollocking at HT. Not sure he showed enough, safe pair of hands but uninspitrational.
  11. If you do not live in or around Southampton then you have no claim to be a Saints fan nor be a member of this forum, there I said it!
  12. To be fair 'though Whitey the quality of football in the PL has gone up in leaps and bounds in the last few years and is far better now than it has ever been. At the highest levels it has become truly "the beautiful game" and exhilaratingly exciting to watch as a neutral.
  13. Could you please post in English next time. I didn't understand a word of this somewhat vacuous contribution.
  14. It hasn't worked for me. I'm still looking after them! Still, helps to keep you feeling young.
  15. Truly remarkable!
  16. ...and so it goes on. 1 - bloody 4. Another humiliation. They are a bloody disgrace. Get rid of Horsman now!
  17. This is probably his last chance with England and he needs to seize the moment. It's not at all easy to break into the squad at the moment, they have become a formidable team and certainly amongst the best in the world if not quite world beaters. He needs to show Southgate his very best attributes and try to make a compelling case for his inclusion in the final squad for next summer. If he misses out this time chances are his time has come and gone. This must not be an unimaginative plodding performance punctuated by arm raising, silly fouls and wasted opportunities. He must be creative and fashion chances that help the likes of Grealish, Sterling & Kane do the business at the top end. We should all wish him well. It's now or never James and your future as an international player rests entirely in your own hands and head. Remember you are not there for your so-called 'dead-ball skills'. Get out there and do us proud!
  18. Have you been on those happy pills again? Boris would love to have you in his team... @⌗Crises what crises? @⌗Queues what queues?
  19. Isn't this called clutching at straws?
  20. What a load of vacuous tosh! We lose because we aren't good enough to win. Nothing to do with referees.
  21. Has it not occurred to people that because JWP comes across as a decent bloke and a generally good sport that refs actually like him and probably more disposed to give him the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps Atkinson on this occasion gave JWP the benefit of any doubts he had about his dangerous and ill-judged tackle. Refs do have some discretion in making in-play judgements after all. Thus a clear and obvious error on Atkinson's part when it should have been a red card immediately.
  22. The lad is still vey raw and naive and was certainly not at his best against Chelsea. Fans expectations of him are too high, too soon. He's a teenager not a seasoned professional with many seasons of experience behind him and the sort of flexibility that comes from that.
  23. Nothing has "happened", it's still there
  24. That's been said for the last two seasons, the guy looks fireproof.
  25. Certainly not one of our best performances; it all looked a little desperate and frantic. We seemed to make a very complicated job out of what other teams seem to find simple and straight forward with the result that we often ended up tying ourselves in knots and losing any sense of purpose. Despite the usual huff and puff we created very little threat of any merit and it was worrying that when our goal did come it was by way of a penalty. Our stand out player today was obviously McCarthy and Redmond could not be faulted for effort. KWP did his best with some nice runs on the left but is not comfortable at LB. Livramento seemed a little overawed by the occasion and was more subdued than usual but Chelseas were sharp and gave us little time on the ball with the result that our close passing game at which we often excel just didn't get going. It was too soon to throw Theo in from the start, he was well off the pace and Armstrong was anonymous, a big worry. I'm not sure where we go from here, its too early to panic but if we don't get a result against Leeds it may be time to start another chapter.
