  1. Robinson will be the better player. He works harder, is difficult to knock off the ball when running at defences weaving his way past opposition players and he works much harder when tracking back. He also seems stronger and more robust. He could be the new Bale which will not be necessarily a good thing for us when the vultures come sniffing.
  2. Fake news, gotta be.
  3. The first match at The Dell was played on 3rd September 1898. It was a Southern League Division One game between Southampton and Brighton United. A crowd of 6,500 attended the match. Southampton won 4 – 1 Key moments: the first goal was scored by Watty Keay following some fine setup play by Tom Smith Southampton scorers: Abe Hartley, Jim McKenzie, Tom Smith Roddy Mcleod scored Brighton United's only goal the Mayor of Southampton ceremonially kicked off the match Shortly after Brighton fell behind, their midfielder Willie McArthur was injured (a kick to the jaw) and had to be hospitalised. Brighton earned some praise for their efforts!
  4. More chance of Western Shore being classified as an area of outstanding beauty.
  5. This needs to be set in its proper context. The big clubs in the top leagues of Europe (for example) compete in a global market for the most promising young talent on the planet, they have academies that are staffed by probably the best youth coaches available to develop that talent and probably have the best facities to match. We have to be realistic about the limitations of Staplewood in terms of its budget, its facilities, who it can attract and its ability to develop that talent. Why would we be surpirsed that in the large part we can only attract kids of limited potential (left overs?) who are destined to end up in lesser leagues. Occasionally it may unearth a future star but the academies of the big clubs seemingly churn out endless conveyor belts full of future stars. For context, four or five of Man City's academy graduates are playing for us in the Championship when their expectation woud have been to play for City in the Premier League. Only the odd one or two ever make it to the first team up there as well.
  6. Polite reminder - at the moment we are the fourth best club out of four on the south coast. [Nobody counts Plymouth, Exeter or Torquay as south coast, they're in the West Country]
  7. Pretty much a bus full getting off our bus 🥺 Hope we have eleven players left to field a full team against Portsmouth. Trouble is when the two teams march out in two weeks time we won't know which team is which as we won't be able to recognise any of them.
  8. Eric Morecombe & Ernie Wise teasing guest Maestro Andre Previn at that time Chief Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra
  9. Very poor performances from both sides in an ugly, foul ridden match. Especially in the first quarter of the match Watford were in our faces all the time, over-physical and fouling at virtually every touch. "Dirty sods" came to my mind more than once! Apart from 'getting the ball in the net' we seemed to have no discernible game plan at all although arguably the early physicality of Watford probably knocked us out of our stride so much that we never recoverd and got going. We just let the B's (!) dictate the pace and style of the game. Poor team selection didn't help. Azaz was okay on his debut but needs to work much harder off the ball, not just stand around and watch when he loses it. Robinson as we are beginning to expect was a bundle of energy and determination but he still needs to learn how to channel his enthusiasm better. Taylor Harwood-Bellis was out of postion on the left side of the back three and seemed out of sorts. He's probably looking at the exit door and hoping somebody will come in for him tomorrow. It's still early days to pronounce judgement but the clock is ticking; on this showing Will Still needs to show us what all the hype was about " 'cos at the moment it ain't looking great". Anybody know what the touchline bust up was all about after the fianl whistle?
  10. Answer to Header - Poor. I'm sick of the managerial bullshit about building for the future by growing our own stars from the Academy or bringing in raw yoiung talent and improving it. As soon as we have a few decent young players emerging from this process we go and sell them at the first sight of a newly minted fiver. I am sick of being lied to time after time.
  11. Based on what exactly. Are you really a Saints fan? Why so quick to slag off our players when they've been here only for five minutes or so?
  12. In your opinion but not mine. He runs and chases far mor ethan any other player in a Saints shirt.
  13. Filed under " Ignore"
  14. The fact that we have brought in Azaz pretty much confirms that Fernandes is gone, so it's three from three
  15. A trifle premature?
  16. See what happens without Shoehorn or Armstrong Will. Tidy performance in the end, shows what a couple of well taken open play goals can do for team morale and confidence. Will has earned a couple of weeks grace from us lot as well.
  17. Has anyone managed to decipher the Sky website info to find out if the match will be shown on TV tonight and if so can we watch it on NowTV? It's all gobbledegook to me. Asking for a friend.
  18. So many "if's" but your optimism is surely misplaced? We've had 10 weeks of this transfer window and have failed to shift any of those players or bring in anybody of any significant quality. What on earth makes you think or believe that anything will change for the better in this final week? It won't! It suggests very strongly that SR aren't that interested in Saints plight this season. I wouldn't mind a small wager that SR are close to pulling the plug on Saints, in the meantime raking in the cash from whatever assets they can sell beforehand.
  19. Old Canaries going cheap! Always our yesterday's or tomorrow's, never our here and now's?
  20. Oops! Reply to SW_Saint: His own words! "People say 'oh you need to play this way, or that way...' like the Southampton way or like with Sam Allardyce, the West Ham way. But what is the West Ham way? What is the Southampton way? You got relegated, so obviously there's something that doesn't work in it. Our way now is win, because that's all we have to do."
  21. Will Still appears to be disdainful of systems of play but his alternative looks to be completely haphazard relying on his players to play by their instincts, almost like making it up as they go along. Most will have recent memories of Russball deeply engrained into their psyche so it's not surprising they revert to that in the absence of anything better being taught them. We don't have a team full of Messi's and Salah's who maybe could be left to innovate and get on with it Will. I have not been impressed at all by what you have served up so far, not quite as incoherent as Sunday League kick and rush but not that much better either. Can anybody be surprised that we have gone behind in all four matches played? In my view the players might actually prefer a system of play that they can relate to, learn and adopt. @sortitoutWillfhs
  22. I'm not that optimistic. In his pre match presser he said that the silly defensive errors leading to give-away goals were easy to eliminate through (his) better coaching and awareness. There was't much evidence of progress in that direction yesterday. Some players let us down badly yesterday, notably Fernandes who cannot be statisfied with that performance, his heart just was't in it. Manning especially infuriates me, rinse and repeat all afternoon. This week will be telling, if the club fail to get the right people in to improve us fans are in for a very disappointing season; that's a big "if" based on who they've brought in so far in this window. No way Saints will be going up with this squad of unimaginative journeymen.
