Richardson is only just back and needs the run, so too Seaborne and I wouldn't want to be the poor sodding coach who has to tell Dan Hard-ing that he's not included.

It's not just a question of good enough to go up, it's also about building a squad capable of challenging next year in the Championship, like Norwich this year. Only three or four of our current squad are even remotely good enough to get through to the Prem. None of the group that I sit with in the Itchen are interested, not one. Don't get it. Not so long ago when we beat Spurs 4-0 in the 3rd Round you couldn't beg a ticket. The reality seems to be that most think The Cup is a waste of time and money for lower league clubs as they have next to bugger-all chance of getting further than Round 3 so why get all worked up for nothing?

If we intend to keep him then Adkins should consider a 4-2-3-1 set-up as none of the current midfielders should be dropped to make way for Chaplow who is no better than any of the others. On the other hand we are not doing great with two strikers of similar ilk either so dropping Lambert or Barney to the bench will be no great loss for to our attacking prowess. I prefer Barnard to Lambert as he is faster and links better with Lallana and Hammond. Most of our open play goals are coming from midfield but Barney gets the odd one whereas lambert's role seems now to be as a target man for Davies and to hold the ball up whilst the rest scramble forward. The end justified the means, we played awful kick and rush football for much of the match and got a result. Why on earth Adkins played the long ball is beyond me as he claims all the time that he wants his team to play neat fast passing football. Did anybody pass his message on to the players? Good result 'though especially later in the season when we look back

There's no room for passengers nowadays, every player counts, every kick counts, the stakes are very much higher than in those days when players could drift in and out of games and not be noticed. Now with empahasis on holding shape and attacking in groups and TV replays highlighting glaring errors there is no room for error or to hide.

I fear they will sell up in the spring anyway, why would Cortese wish to hang around in this backwater running a minor football team? He is a business executive persuing a high-flying career; without Marcus around this may be looking to him increasingly like a career cul-de-sac especially now the first shock has worn off. If Cortese can get us to the top of this league and running well then he'll get a very good price indeed for Saints - debt free and promotion probables, must be worth £20m

What is it about Saints, can't we ever do things the easy way? I do wonder whether our defenders are plain effing thick sometimes. They give away so many goals from simple set pieces - more than any other team I'll wager - and yet we never seem to be able to score from corners ourselves. Meanwhile Brighton with no money and a team of players nobody's ever heard of sail majestically on their way. How embarrassing is that going to be if come season's end, Moneypots, got it all Saints only finish second to those penniless, nonentities from Sussex? If we had a really good manager we'd walk it surely, Brighton are proving it ain't that difficult to get out of this league?
