Another balls up by Adkins on team selection redeemed only because Morgan & Barney - who should have been on from the start - decided to embarrass him by turning in superb displays whilst Chaplow proved only that he prefers to spend his time running around aimlessly watching the ball go past him this way and that. That's quite a run of stinkers from the poor fella..... Poor old Kelvin, rescued by his mates once again but time to reflect on putting is feet up on a Saturday afternoon?

Bogey team for Saints. Probably lose 2-1 to them unless Morgan is in.

Hartlepool 0 - 0 Saints - Post Match Reaction Thread

Agree. This season more and more looks like it is heading nowhere. Are we good enough? Probably not for automatic. Surely Cortese won't be happy with the play-offs only? It just gets gloomier and gloomier. -
The purchase of the Club by Marcus Liebherrr and the appointment of Nicola Cortese was widely welcomed across the fan base and throughout the Southampton community as the much longed-for release from all the partisan in-fighting that characterised the previous 5/20 years , with its mind-numbing deceitfulness, duplicity and sycophancy. It's bloody obvious to anybody with half a brain that there would be a few winners and a lot of very bitter losers from this abrupt change - people, especially people with a vested interest just don't like sudden changes of this sort. I'll not hear anything negative about Mr Cortese unless it is established as fact.

Anyone else starting to worry about fixture pile-up ?
Charlie Wayman replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
I have a number of issues about this. First of all. it is not equitable that we have to play teams who cannot guarantee the preparation of a pitch suitable for a game in any weather conditions when these same clubs have the exceptional benefit of being able to visiting SMS in confidence that neither they nor their fans will have a wasted expensive journey to the other end of the country and then being treated to what is probably the best playing surface in the UK. The FA must act on this even if necessary to the point of fining these errant clubs out of business. Guaranteeing a playable pitch in all conditions should be a very minimum standard for entry into the Football League. How many times would you invite friends to dinner if all they ever did in reciprocation was to buy some fish & chips from the local grease station. Yu get my point! Second, yes I am worried about the piling up of away fixtures as the season draws to a close. When players are naturally exhausted as the season wears on and injuries take their toll, the last thing we need is a running sequence at 3-day intervals of long distance energy sapping away days in the far north. This will most definitely put us at an extreme disadvantage to those around us who are pacing themselves nicely through their fixtures and putting points and goals into the bank. I don't want us to be in the situation where we are (say) 14 points behind second place with 5 games in hand all away at the end of the season. It would be surely a recipe fraught with disaster. Right now we are in a bad run of form so a postponement does at least offer respite to allow Schneiderlin, Lallana and Hammond to regain full match fitness. On the other hand match fitness usually depends on playing matches: and ****ing around at Staplewood on sun-beds with a beach ball is no substitute for real action and it will be easy for us to go rusty and have to start the old engine up from cold all over again. -

Some good things about the much maligned Northam lot, they always turn up, always roar their heads off with inane chants like "Red & White" of "Yellow" and never give up encouraging the lads. I'm not sure about the "who-o-o-o-a-a-a Whos that barsteward" bit, but you get the same everywhere else - who'd want to be a goalie at an away match? As an Itchen-er my only complaint is I can't always here what they're singing but without them there'd be no atmosphere. -
So what special insight do you have that the rest of us missed then, Mr Holier-than-thou? He should have been off after 30 minutes when it was obvious the occasion was too much for him. He didn't appear to have even basic ball skills like trapping the bloody thing first touch for goodness sake! People boo because they feel let down but it's as much to do with blaming Adkins as the player himself, why was he ever selected?
-
Yet another nothing game and poor entertainment for we cash strapped fans. It's OK to say one to forget, three points are three points but there is something deeper going on here that cold become a malaise. I was dismayed when Adkins started bellowing at his players - how does that help Nigel when they are having a really bad day and all you've ever taught 'em is to play with smiles on their faces? They're no fools, they know they should have done a lot, lot better but it's YOUR job to lift them not throw sh*t at them, that's our job! Was this the first sign that he is losing the dressing room? I hope not but the only players that he has brought in are N'Guessan and Forte both of whom seem to be totally out of their depth in our squad. If that is indeed the case it won't take long for morale to sink amongst those on the bench who might start to suspect favouritism. On the other hand Adkins has his reputation on the line if these two turn out to be turkeys - at least they're only on loan - so he's got to give them a run out but why not in the reserves for a few weeks until they earn a first team slot rather than in the white heat of a promo battle? As things stand it is still Alan Pardew's team that will get us out of this league but not if Adkins starts to demoralise and dismantle it through his own narrow interests. Why in heavens name weren't Dixon and Richardson used once it became clear that Danny Butterfield was off colour and N'Guessan was clueless? If this is the pattern from now on it's going to be a tough call. Technically, Charlton are above us and Huddersfield and Bournemouth don't appear to be throwing in the towel anytime soon, so we seem to be consigned to the play-offs at best unless we can find some form soon. So much now depends on keeping Lallana and Schneiderlin fit for 18 matches.

There's a hint on the OS that Barts will be in goal tomorrow, otherwise why showcase his patience? Maybe his time has come?
-
Even worse, pointless and obscure. The guy's probably about 100 years old now.
-
The logic in this statement is a bit errh! illogical. At least 12 former Football League sides are now playing in the Conference but does anybody miss them? What's the difference, they have disappeared from sight for most fans - except their own of course - remember Luton, Newport County, Mansfield? Thought not. Plymouth Who?

After what happened to Gray & Keys, I'm amazed you had the gall to write this sort of sexist nonsense. Mods what's going on?

Looks good. Nice holiday camp atmosphere especailly the pool and recliners. Hey! lads! There's work to be done! Is it for exclusive use for SFC or will we fans be able to pop in for a Cappucino?

League Table since Adkins - indications for 2nd half of season?
Charlie Wayman replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
I was delighted to read that Addrers is learning to speak French so's e can have a better understanding with his players "who speak that lingo" Here are some helpful phrases for starters Nige. Practice these in front of the mirror before you try themem on Morgan and that new bloke who's name keeps me guessing! "gagner un match de football" "venir dans le bâtiment" "sur le bus" "jouer avec un sourire sur votre visage" -
This was a woeful performance from which very few players can take any credit at all and that does not exclude or excuse the hapless Nigel Adkins who clearly had no idea at all how to organise the defence or plug the gaps or change the way we wee playing. If Mr Forte is his idea of a good signing then indeed we are in the ****. Only Chaplow and Lambert played with any sort of passion or commitment, the rest presumably thought they were just there for the TV appearance money, it seemed they couldn't give a toss whether we won, lost or drew. They owe is a huge effing apology for this shambolic display of ineptitude. It's alright excusing players on the basis that everybody has a bad game but this was collective shirking of responsibility on a criminal scale that underlines - as if we didn't know it already - that shorn of Lallana and Schneiderlin we are a very pedestrian long ball team; if we were ever to lose those guys permanently we'd soon be in the Conference where today's football belongs. Seaborne demonstrated exactly why Exeter were happy to sell him, waht astounds me and the rest of my pals in the bar was with Jaidi on the bench WTF was Adkins doing allowing the farce to go on and on and on and on. Tonight we will be a laughing stock all over the country, everyone knows that Peterborough under Ferguson are a basket case but Saints reputation has taken one hell of a hammering. Nobody will fear us again. How the hell are we going to win promotion playing like this? We'd never survive the NPC anyway with this excuse of a defence. I never thought the day would come when I would write that Ricky Lambert was our only player worthy of being kept on the field for 90 minutes but he was today. Adkins is now under the spotlight as never before, the honeymoon is over and the cracks are showing through. He is clearly limited in his vision, team selection and ability to change things around when the going gets tough. Alas from the body language of our totally disinterested players it seems we've got the wrong man yet again.

There's nothing worse than failed streaming with 5 or 10 before ko. Always dodgy but great if it connects. The alternative is the local pub but if there's a PL math on at the same time I doubt we'll get enough saints fans in to control the r/c. Once, last year I was in first and asked for our match, 10 minutes later a whole bevy of hotel guests came prancing in to watch Spurs v West Ham. To be fair not one had the cheek to switch it over and eventually they cleared off to watch it in one of their rooms I suppose. Scary moment 'though as it wasn't an issue I'd die for! Probably be the same tonight

The refusal to sell a season ticket at Southampton FC
Charlie Wayman replied to lenwilkins's topic in The Saints
You are right of course but the lazy bugger's don't have alternative phone numbers to call. No way are they going to show initiative by getting off their arses at Nursling and making the effort to go 4 miles to SMS -
The refusal to sell a season ticket at Southampton FC
Charlie Wayman replied to lenwilkins's topic in The Saints
The owner can refuse to admit whomsoever he wishes. It's a private club for goodness sake. Why did the bloke get himself banned in the first place, certainly not because he complained about the pizzas. If you play with fire expect to get your fingers burnt! Sorry mate sod all sympathy from me. -
Dan Seaborne is OK but is lacks quality, his main strength is up-and-under to keep high balls out of the area. Not so confident on the ground and it shows. We don't have too many quality centre-backs in the building right now, Jaidi is experienced but getting slow - he can't turn or chase - and is probably only good for 60 minutes but you don't want to be switching centre-backs in a match unless forced by injury as it closes your options in mid-field and up-front. Martin is good at times but lacks experience and could be found wanting under pressure each match. He is one for the future and like Oxo needs a couple of good seasons behind him against top quality opposition. I'm not sure Hammond can get airborne long enough to be a CB. he seems to be more of a bulldozer just charging through everything in his way. Too many penalties from him I'm afraid if he was further back. I wonder if its worth risking Richardson there for a match or two with Butterfield at RB, this way you get them both on together, he certainly has the height and strength and speed. When it comes down to who gets on the bus it has to be Jaidi & Seaborne at the moment but we'll always leak goals until we can find a big lad with a smile on his face to partner Fonte
