Colchester 0 - 2 Saints - Post Match Reaction
Charlie Wayman replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
Results are all that matter now. This was winning ugly according to Radio Solent. CU will claim "We wuz robbed!" but tough cookies, you win some you lose some. We're in the mix, no better than the other 5 certainly not as good as Brighton or good enough to win the league. We must beat Bournemouth now, absolutely no way back if we bottle it and sh*t I'm banking on the lads not ****ing it up on Tuesday night even before the Crunch at Dean Court. Of course it'll be a struggle next year if we make it but onwards and upwards. This my friends is what supporting Saints has been like in all those years you were'nt even a glint in some blokes eye so get used to it - these are what we call the good times! -
We'll never know unless somebody on here knows any of the team personally but just in case they do and are collectively in litigious mood because of all the slagging... Rickie, you are the most improved player in England this season and deserve on merit to play for England every week, besides which you are twice as tall as that bloke Owen and much better looking than Crouch. Morgan, vous êtes un génie doté d'aptitudes surhumaines de football que nous ne pouvons qu'espérer fans de contempler une fois dans sa vie

Today really must be D Day for Adkns and his cronies. D for DELIVER or it'll be "sorry to lose you but you really ahve to go" as the old WWI music hall song went! If we scrape a win he'll get a stay of execution and of course the longer that goes on the less likely it is that Nicola will fire him until all hope of promotion is gone. I happen to think that he'll get his marching orders anyway in the close season but Nicola is now in that very difficult time for decisions cut-and-run or hope-and-pray part 1 of the dream so near and yet so far away. Counter to what you may think, I don't dislike Adkins but it is becoming more evident week-by-week that he has only limited ideas on how to get the best from a team; "the next best thing since sliced beard" most certainly he is not. We need better and this team deserves better before they are too old to be effective anymore.

What if they beat us?
-
Why expect anything different to what we had on Tuesday night and up at Hartlepool last week. We are becoming mediocre under this mediocre manager. Nothing's changed since Tuesday, as you can tell from the OS that Adkins is living in Cloud Cuckoo Land with all his wishful thinking. Who do you think you are kidding Mr Adkins, your influence on this team is none! Same old sh*t will be served up and because Colchester are better than Walsall it's a dead cert 2-0 clobbering.
-
The only problem is it sh*t seems to happen only to Southampton. Meanwhile HMS Brighton and HMS Bournemouth are sailing off into the sunset... It's best not to be too philosophical about football, it is not a cerebral game.

I imagine this will be the end of the Adkins regime. Mr Cortese will not be a happy man, he wants promotion this year and Adkins seems ever more incapable of delivering it. No predictions but to deliver promotion now a new guy needs the games in hand and enough time to get things stabilised for the run-in so it has to be now before the match on Saturday and another disastrous result. If nothing changes and we lose again at Colchester it might be the end of it for this season and Adkins would surely not get another chance so ergo it seems entirely logical that he will be fired tomorrow provided that Corteses has a replacement up his sleeve. The remaining question is "Who?" It's no good handing over to Wilkins as he couldn't handle it last time and now all of the best candidates with the exception of Big Sam are in work and MON of course. Could we just cling to a glimmer of hope that one of those guys might take a chance on us? The alternative doesn't bear thinking abut, Cortese and the Liebherr family lose interest and sell up and we are well and truly b*ggered and stuck down here as an impoverished club with years of third division football to come. -
Not with our current squad that's for sure.
-
All three are U-21 internationals so they should be bloody good! As you say one more... Jack Willshire?
-
Right on the money! COYR 5-0 will be good enough.
-
Another balls up by Adkins on team selection redeemed only because Morgan & Barney - who should have been on from the start - decided to embarrass him by turning in superb displays whilst Chaplow proved only that he prefers to spend his time running around aimlessly watching the ball go past him this way and that. That's quite a run of stinkers from the poor fella..... Poor old Kelvin, rescued by his mates once again but time to reflect on putting is feet up on a Saturday afternoon?
-
Bogey team for Saints. Probably lose 2-1 to them unless Morgan is in.

Agree. This season more and more looks like it is heading nowhere. Are we good enough? Probably not for automatic. Surely Cortese won't be happy with the play-offs only? It just gets gloomier and gloomier. -
The purchase of the Club by Marcus Liebherrr and the appointment of Nicola Cortese was widely welcomed across the fan base and throughout the Southampton community as the much longed-for release from all the partisan in-fighting that characterised the previous 5/20 years , with its mind-numbing deceitfulness, duplicity and sycophancy. It's bloody obvious to anybody with half a brain that there would be a few winners and a lot of very bitter losers from this abrupt change - people, especially people with a vested interest just don't like sudden changes of this sort. I'll not hear anything negative about Mr Cortese unless it is established as fact.

Anyone else starting to worry about fixture pile-up ?
Charlie Wayman replied to alpine_saint's topic in The Saints
I have a number of issues about this. First of all. it is not equitable that we have to play teams who cannot guarantee the preparation of a pitch suitable for a game in any weather conditions when these same clubs have the exceptional benefit of being able to visiting SMS in confidence that neither they nor their fans will have a wasted expensive journey to the other end of the country and then being treated to what is probably the best playing surface in the UK. The FA must act on this even if necessary to the point of fining these errant clubs out of business. Guaranteeing a playable pitch in all conditions should be a very minimum standard for entry into the Football League. How many times would you invite friends to dinner if all they ever did in reciprocation was to buy some fish & chips from the local grease station. Yu get my point! Second, yes I am worried about the piling up of away fixtures as the season draws to a close. When players are naturally exhausted as the season wears on and injuries take their toll, the last thing we need is a running sequence at 3-day intervals of long distance energy sapping away days in the far north. This will most definitely put us at an extreme disadvantage to those around us who are pacing themselves nicely through their fixtures and putting points and goals into the bank. I don't want us to be in the situation where we are (say) 14 points behind second place with 5 games in hand all away at the end of the season. It would be surely a recipe fraught with disaster. Right now we are in a bad run of form so a postponement does at least offer respite to allow Schneiderlin, Lallana and Hammond to regain full match fitness. On the other hand match fitness usually depends on playing matches: and ****ing around at Staplewood on sun-beds with a beach ball is no substitute for real action and it will be easy for us to go rusty and have to start the old engine up from cold all over again. -
Morons to the left of me, morons to the right

Some good things about the much maligned Northam lot, they always turn up, always roar their heads off with inane chants like "Red & White" of "Yellow" and never give up encouraging the lads. I'm not sure about the "who-o-o-o-a-a-a Whos that barsteward" bit, but you get the same everywhere else - who'd want to be a goalie at an away match? As an Itchen-er my only complaint is I can't always here what they're singing but without them there'd be no atmosphere. -
So what special insight do you have that the rest of us missed then, Mr Holier-than-thou? He should have been off after 30 minutes when it was obvious the occasion was too much for him. He didn't appear to have even basic ball skills like trapping the bloody thing first touch for goodness sake! People boo because they feel let down but it's as much to do with blaming Adkins as the player himself, why was he ever selected?
-
Yet another nothing game and poor entertainment for we cash strapped fans. It's OK to say one to forget, three points are three points but there is something deeper going on here that cold become a malaise. I was dismayed when Adkins started bellowing at his players - how does that help Nigel when they are having a really bad day and all you've ever taught 'em is to play with smiles on their faces? They're no fools, they know they should have done a lot, lot better but it's YOUR job to lift them not throw sh*t at them, that's our job! Was this the first sign that he is losing the dressing room? I hope not but the only players that he has brought in are N'Guessan and Forte both of whom seem to be totally out of their depth in our squad. If that is indeed the case it won't take long for morale to sink amongst those on the bench who might start to suspect favouritism. On the other hand Adkins has his reputation on the line if these two turn out to be turkeys - at least they're only on loan - so he's got to give them a run out but why not in the reserves for a few weeks until they earn a first team slot rather than in the white heat of a promo battle? As things stand it is still Alan Pardew's team that will get us out of this league but not if Adkins starts to demoralise and dismantle it through his own narrow interests. Why in heavens name weren't Dixon and Richardson used once it became clear that Danny Butterfield was off colour and N'Guessan was clueless? If this is the pattern from now on it's going to be a tough call. Technically, Charlton are above us and Huddersfield and Bournemouth don't appear to be throwing in the towel anytime soon, so we seem to be consigned to the play-offs at best unless we can find some form soon. So much now depends on keeping Lallana and Schneiderlin fit for 18 matches.
-
There's a hint on the OS that Barts will be in goal tomorrow, otherwise why showcase his patience? Maybe his time has come?
-
Even worse, pointless and obscure. The guy's probably about 100 years old now.
-
The logic in this statement is a bit errh! illogical. At least 12 former Football League sides are now playing in the Conference but does anybody miss them? What's the difference, they have disappeared from sight for most fans - except their own of course - remember Luton, Newport County, Mansfield? Thought not. Plymouth Who?
-
After what happened to Gray & Keys, I'm amazed you had the gall to write this sort of sexist nonsense. Mods what's going on?

Looks good. Nice holiday camp atmosphere especailly the pool and recliners. Hey! lads! There's work to be done! Is it for exclusive use for SFC or will we fans be able to pop in for a Cappucino?
