The quicker we get out of this league the better.

Should be a doddle, 5-1 most likely. Can't be bothered to go up there on Saturday to watch the B team.
-
The bloke is a liability. Get the armband off him and get rid. Martin's judgement of people is very patchy and he has got this one badly wrong.
-
We have to win away matches if we are serious about automatic promotion. Results like this are unacceptable.

Why not a new year's day resolution to kick the drink habit and watch the game sober. You never know you might actually enjoy it!
-
You really are a miserable moaning sod. Go and support somebody else and leave Baz alone.

You utter dopey tit! Mr Sunak has been a Saints supporter all his life and despite being PM and all the nonsense that surrounds that job turns up to watch us in the Championship on a dark, dank Friday night at the uncivilised time of 6.00pm. Russell Martin is being paid handsomely for the job he is doing but it could be the same job for any one of a dozen clubs. He is lucky that he has inherited the squad that he is working with. Saints supporter he is not and never will be! Sheffield Wednesday have a better chance of reaching the play-offs than the Tories have of getting my vote at the next election by the way

I agree Nick, this time the subs made little impact and our game broke down. Perhaps at 2-0 they felt the game was all over and they didn't need to over exert themselves.

Backs to the wall stuff form the visitors made for a very frustrating game to watch but our second half trick of lobbing the ball over the top sorted them out once and for all. Smallbone deserved to score from the first one and frankly should have done. Charlie's goal was magical. Too many manic depressives on here saying Argyle's goal should have stood and by implication "a different game" but come on, we played them off the park and they were lucky to keep our score respectable. 7-0 would have flattered them. The cock-up goal at the end was entirely down to Stephens (where have we heard that 100 times before!) short passing to Baz and giving him no chance to get his positioning right. Why Martin feels the need to bring Calamity Jack on at all is beyond me, the bloke has become a joke and an embarrassment. Perhaps he has a secret ambition to displace Baz and play in goal. Argyle's No's 2 & 8 played well against KWP and SE and maybe are worth keeping an eye on. The music & light show lacked any kind of imagination and was one to forget.

Having watched the the pathetic attempts of Arsenal and WHU to pass out from the back last night and not to be able to string three consecutive passes together especially at pace one has to admire what Martin has achieved in his six months or so here with players of allegedly inferior quality. It may be an illusion of course as his system may be too clever for most Championship defences but it will be quite interesting to see how we fare against a middle ranking PL team, so fingers crossed we draw one of them at home in the 4th round of the FA Cup.

I'd alway understood that Brooks was the benchmark for sliced bread so how come the Cherries are prepared to let him go anywhere at all? Maybe too many injuries have made them re-assess his worth? If so why would we want to get involved? We shouldn't, end of. The rehab team has enough on its hands trying to sort out the Stewart mess

Stephens was quoted on the OS as being prepared to play anywhere. Of course he will, having zero chance of unseating THB or JB or indeed KWP his only hope of game time, captain or no captain, is to compete with Manning or Bree for the other wing-back position. Let's face it he has never been a first choice CB for Saints and was even sent away on loan last year as being surplus to requirements. Martin bigs him up all the time and inexplicably made him club captain (thus making a rod for his own back) but facts are facts and Stephens at best is an over-the-hill journeyman with a very limited future here if indeed he has one at all.

Bear in mind that we are Southampton, sooner rather than later we will lose Sam Edozie to a top six club if his potential is fully developed. No doubt envious eyes are already being cast in our direction as the youngsters grow in stature. Also, don't be too sure that there is a route back for Ryan Fraser. The Toon owners have greater ambitions and bigger fish to fry than a mid twenties squad player who left to get game time in the Championship. Fraser is far more likely to be our player in the longer term.

Does it really matter any more. That was then, this is now. Enjoy what is happening and forget the past.

If Martin has the same success as Nigel then I hope the club treat him better next season than they did Nigel.

I think that's right. The idea of a completely new self-contained breakaway league is too idealistic, there are many fundamental problems to solve first e.g. how many clubs from which leagues; promotion, relegation; unless they set it up as a closed shop. Not all leagues in Europe are remotely equal while maintaining national representation at season's end could become a divisive political issue Personally, two premier league divisions of 16 clubs would get my support. Saints should qualify for one of these!

It seems inevitable but crassly stupid, short sighted and immoral in the light of the existential crises surrounding our environment. How are a few tens of thousands more unnecessary flights per year going to help reverse climate change? Money is the king so we'll all go to hell in a hand basket.
-
We won't get anything for him. Who in their right minds will take him off our hands? We may have to offer him plus £15m to clinch a deal.
-
I've never bought into the idea that we only ever beat very poor teams. We systematically destroyed Blackburn with superb controlled football that stretched the opposition to breaking point both physically and mentally. The timing of the late goals was irrelevant, we had squandered clear cut chance after chance including a penalty long before that and should have been 5-0 up at 90 minutes. As for Adams, I doubt many will know or care if he is still around or long gone at the end of January.
-
Who said that apart from you. You made it up. If we get promoted he'll sign a new contract. He knows he's loved here and will be our player of the year.
-
I admire your optimism but be real man, he isn't going to be any more effective in our system than Adams. This will be an unnecessary disruption to our progress that we simply don't need
-
How can they score goals when they are sat on the bench most of the time?
-
I cannot believe there is a serious intention of bringing Ings back here. To do what exactly? Arrest the development of Mara and Alcaraz by denying them pitch time? Ings at the expense of losing KWP, no effing way. Do we ever learn?

Saints 4 actual goals vs 0 Blackburn - Match Thread
Charlie Wayman replied to Convict Colony's topic in The Saints
Practice makes perfect, we could be the best in the world at the passing game next season? [P.S. We still have to keep the ball out of our net and find a way of putting it in their net of course.] Had we played them yesterday we might have beaten them.
