    Mane

It is maybe unpalatable to those who think a good player should be one who steams up and down the pitch non-stop for 90 minutes but the match-winning genius players often contribute only a couple of flashes of inspiring play per match but boy when those moments come along they can change games and create lasting memories as Mane showed us yesterday. I doubt we will ever see a better individual goal at St Mary's.
  2. Far from it with Morgan and Victor always just a lunging leg away from a Red Card, we need Jack Cork's more disciplined approach to steady a rocking ship. Harrison Reed is a fantastic prospect but the ferocious way he goes about his business scares the willies out of me; refs will have a field day sorting him out over the years. That's what comes of having Morgan & Victor as role models.
  3. Like you mean a squad player that plays every game... LOL. I like the lad, he has adapted well to what to a very disciplined Japanese must be an unsettling informal joshy culture and has worked his socks off to improve his all-round game to the level needed at the top of the PL. Absolutely delighted that Maya will be here for a few more years, a natural leader who brings much needed dedication to the dressing room. Players who want to be here are the players we should want to keep.
  4. One of those days when you can only watch and marvel at the excellence of this Southampton team. A match to savour, a day to remember. Thanks Mr Koeman for a very merry Christmas.
  5. Who was that Chelsea player chatting up Morgan at HT?
  6. No penalty was given because there was no direct threat on goal. It was bit of a ball-possession tussle on the edge of the box, both players slipped and there was a tangle of legs. It was all completely accidental. Harsh to book the Chelsea bloke but then again two officials were watching the incident. Take no notice of Mourinho's usual inane ravings, if the only way to win is to cry wolf 'cos your team can't score in open play then that team will never deserve to be worthy champions. I am fed up with effing big club whingers. The sooner Mourinho and his ilk b.ugger off to some foreign league the better for the PL. Give me 1 Ronald Koeman's any day for 100 of these sulky miserable bastartds.
  7. One minute's loss of concentration through over-confidence and we draw a match we could have won. Despite all their gifted players, Chelsea didn't create much at all, with no shots on target except the pass into the net from an unchallenged runner. Chelsea 'though in all honesty were a much better organised and gifted team and we didn't get a sniff in the second half. Very lucky boys but what the hell, we get a point they lose two and we're still 4th.
  8. Red card is a three game suspension surely? He was a yard off the pace today hence the desperate tackling that earned him yellows. Morgan is always a car crash waiting to happen with his silly habit of jabbing out a foot when exasperated. He is certainly an accomplished player but on today's evidence not disciplined enough to match Fabregas & Co. He'd struggle to get into the Chelsea team and most likely Man City as well. His absence from the Arsenal games is a co-incidence not conspiratorial as the more nervous on here postulate. Maybe there is a Saints conspiracy to keep him away from Wenger?
  9. This looks like a win for Saints, about 3-1 probably.
  10. O ye of little faith!
  11. The real issue is that this player may be too full of his own self importance to fit into a team ethos like ours. Osvaldo was clearly a misfit whereas as Graziano Pelle is very clearly fully integrated into being part of Saints them and vision. I get the feeling that Mane can't change enough from being me-Mane to be successful in the team by becoming not only a skilled winger but also aa anonymous team grafter when the circumstances require it. Belle as an example gives very impression that he owns the team, just like Jose & Maya an these are the players we should buy not prima donna misfits who dazzle only when the mood takes them.
  12. 11 points from safety! Only joking, what a match, what a performance and top marks to Steve & James for ploughing on for 90 minutes (well almost) when carrying injuries and not being anywhere near match fit.
  13. Gateshead v Eastleigh is going to be one hell of a game for the neutral.
  14. Very insightful. With "supporters" like you the team can only go from strength to strength. Are you suggesting perhaps that the dressing room corridor should have beds rather than bikes for the pre-match nonsense?
  15. Love the way Ron dealt with this question, no evasiveness or double talk just head-up straight-on dry humour. Best quote of our year by miles. There's only one Ronald Koeman. Don't let him slip away through frustration Les.
  16. Rupert Lowe. In fact he was Right honourable... oh well better not go there!
  17. So why the delay with Clyne? Where there's a will... as they say. Two sides of the same coin.
  18. D'y'all remember when Keegan turned up at The Potter's Heron? It would be massive on that scale... but it ain't gonna happen, right! On the other hand signing fading old stars is hardly part of our Club's alleged philosophy, Gudjohnson to Bolton was more about nostalgia than football commonsense. Surely we don't want to drift back to the good old bad old days of a team comprising other people's cast-offs and 12 club journeymen. We are Southampton, we don't do panic!
  19. Is Harry Reed any good or not? Is Matt Target really the new Luke Shaw? What does Ron see in Isgrove? Pertinent questions right now. I f sthey really are our future why aren't they starting regularly 'cos things are dire right now and likely to get worse before they get better. Taking Toby out of the back four is madness as ti weakens the one reliable part of our team and let's face it he doesn't have the discipline to play the midfield holding role. He wanders all over the place when pushed into midfield. If it was my pick I'd go for Yosh forward of Fonte/Toby in a five man back line 'cos the priority must be to get a clean sheet at any cost. 0-0 will be a point and a damn good results after our recent maulings. If we can get four 0-0's in the next four games I'd be more than happy. It's not only the team who've taken a hit to their confidence so have most of we fans. Hard to see where the next goal is coming from let alone the next win.
  20. Do you really think that making a great deal of noise actually affects outcomes? Of course not, the players are either in form or not and the team is either clicking or it is not. If you go into work feeling like death warmed up no way are you going to do a good day's work whether the boss gives you encouragement or not, right!your just waiting to get through it and hope you feel better the next day. We've all been there, done that....
  21. How can a post be 'sensible' as you see it when the writer says we must get in 3, 4 or 5 top quality players in the window? It is difficult enough to find and sign 2 top quality players in the whole of the summer window in between seasons when contracts are up and players are looking for new challenges. In January, no player worth his salt and embedded in a top side in any European League will want or be allowed to leave his club so you are left either to make unrealistically massive offers for stars - which we cannot afford - to prise them away or draft in people who spend most of their time on benches at other top clubs - implying that they are not really good enough anyway. So the sensible poster should sensibly explain where we will find these somehow over-looked superstars or the cash to buy them? Ron has already stated that nobody will be leaving in January so no money coming in from that direction. The best we can hope for is a loan or two of bench-warmers who might change the mix a bit but won't transform our fortunes.
  22. No bad luck involved here, we just weren't good enough and team confidence is taking a real hammering. The good thing is they seem to be taking it on the chin as a team rather than blaming each other. Right now it is hard to see a way out of the hole we are digging for ourselves and it could get a whole lot worse after Saturday with half our spine missing. 1-0 defeats are hard to take but allow claims of being unlucky, anything bigger (v Everton) like 3-0 might have a really damaging effect on team morale and cohesiveness.
  23. With half the team in self destruct mode, there is more than a chance that we are now consigned to losing the next four in a row. Does anybody see any way of halting the slide? Everton looks very difficult after tonight's rash of yellow and red cards. This could be a horror show, predicting the score almost irrelevant.

    JWP

With Schneiderlin fit again on Saturday JWP will be on the bench but at least we have the option of subbing one of the midfielders at the 2/3rd's point with a guy of some quality. Obviously Hesketh won't be fit so no competition from him yet awhile but if I was JWP I'd be looking over my shoulder at this even younger pretender who looks suspiciously like a future goal machine
  25. Come off it wiggles that is massively out of order as well you know. Sound like you've got a problem or two of your own to sort out.
