One minute's loss of concentration through over-confidence and we draw a match we could have won. Despite all their gifted players, Chelsea didn't create much at all, with no shots on target except the pass into the net from an unchallenged runner. Chelsea 'though in all honesty were a much better organised and gifted team and we didn't get a sniff in the second half. Very lucky boys but what the hell, we get a point they lose two and we're still 4th.

Red card is a three game suspension surely? He was a yard off the pace today hence the desperate tackling that earned him yellows. Morgan is always a car crash waiting to happen with his silly habit of jabbing out a foot when exasperated. He is certainly an accomplished player but on today's evidence not disciplined enough to match Fabregas & Co. He'd struggle to get into the Chelsea team and most likely Man City as well. His absence from the Arsenal games is a co-incidence not conspiratorial as the more nervous on here postulate. Maybe there is a Saints conspiracy to keep him away from Wenger?

This looks like a win for Saints, about 3-1 probably.

Post-Match Reaction: Palace 1-3 SAINTS

Eljero Elia - Confirmed 6 Month Loan
Charlie Wayman replied to Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd's topic in The Saints
The real issue is that this player may be too full of his own self importance to fit into a team ethos like ours. Osvaldo was clearly a misfit whereas as Graziano Pelle is very clearly fully integrated into being part of Saints them and vision. I get the feeling that Mane can't change enough from being me-Mane to be successful in the team by becoming not only a skilled winger but also aa anonymous team grafter when the circumstances require it. Belle as an example gives very impression that he owns the team, just like Jose & Maya an these are the players we should buy not prima donna misfits who dazzle only when the mood takes them. -
Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 3-0 Everton

11 points from safety! Only joking, what a match, what a performance and top marks to Steve & James for ploughing on for 90 minutes (well almost) when carrying injuries and not being anywhere near match fit. -
Matt Targett signs 5 year contract to 2019

Gateshead v Eastleigh is going to be one hell of a game for the neutral. -
Very insightful. With "supporters" like you the team can only go from strength to strength. Are you suggesting perhaps that the dressing room corridor should have beds rather than bikes for the pre-match nonsense?

Love the way Ron dealt with this question, no evasiveness or double talk just head-up straight-on dry humour. Best quote of our year by miles. There's only one Ronald Koeman. Don't let him slip away through frustration Les.

Rupert Lowe. In fact he was Right honourable... oh well better not go there!

Matt Targett signs 5 year contract to 2019
Charlie Wayman replied to Ulrich van Gobbel's topic in The Saints
So why the delay with Clyne? Where there's a will... as they say. Two sides of the same coin. -
D'y'all remember when Keegan turned up at The Potter's Heron? It would be massive on that scale... but it ain't gonna happen, right! On the other hand signing fading old stars is hardly part of our Club's alleged philosophy, Gudjohnson to Bolton was more about nostalgia than football commonsense. Surely we don't want to drift back to the good old bad old days of a team comprising other people's cast-offs and 12 club journeymen. We are Southampton, we don't do panic!

Is Harry Reed any good or not? Is Matt Target really the new Luke Shaw? What does Ron see in Isgrove? Pertinent questions right now. I f sthey really are our future why aren't they starting regularly 'cos things are dire right now and likely to get worse before they get better. Taking Toby out of the back four is madness as ti weakens the one reliable part of our team and let's face it he doesn't have the discipline to play the midfield holding role. He wanders all over the place when pushed into midfield. If it was my pick I'd go for Yosh forward of Fonte/Toby in a five man back line 'cos the priority must be to get a clean sheet at any cost. 0-0 will be a point and a damn good results after our recent maulings. If we can get four 0-0's in the next four games I'd be more than happy. It's not only the team who've taken a hit to their confidence so have most of we fans. Hard to see where the next goal is coming from let alone the next win.

Do you really think that making a great deal of noise actually affects outcomes? Of course not, the players are either in form or not and the team is either clicking or it is not. If you go into work feeling like death warmed up no way are you going to do a good day's work whether the boss gives you encouragement or not, right!your just waiting to get through it and hope you feel better the next day. We've all been there, done that....

Sheff Utd 1-0 Saints Post match carnage.
Charlie Wayman replied to Edmonton Saint's topic in The Saints
How can a post be 'sensible' as you see it when the writer says we must get in 3, 4 or 5 top quality players in the window? It is difficult enough to find and sign 2 top quality players in the whole of the summer window in between seasons when contracts are up and players are looking for new challenges. In January, no player worth his salt and embedded in a top side in any European League will want or be allowed to leave his club so you are left either to make unrealistically massive offers for stars - which we cannot afford - to prise them away or draft in people who spend most of their time on benches at other top clubs - implying that they are not really good enough anyway. So the sensible poster should sensibly explain where we will find these somehow over-looked superstars or the cash to buy them? Ron has already stated that nobody will be leaving in January so no money coming in from that direction. The best we can hope for is a loan or two of bench-warmers who might change the mix a bit but won't transform our fortunes. -
Sheff Utd 1-0 Saints Post match carnage.
Charlie Wayman replied to Edmonton Saint's topic in The Saints
No bad luck involved here, we just weren't good enough and team confidence is taking a real hammering. The good thing is they seem to be taking it on the chin as a team rather than blaming each other. Right now it is hard to see a way out of the hole we are digging for ourselves and it could get a whole lot worse after Saturday with half our spine missing. 1-0 defeats are hard to take but allow claims of being unlucky, anything bigger (v Everton) like 3-0 might have a really damaging effect on team morale and cohesiveness. -
With half the team in self destruct mode, there is more than a chance that we are now consigned to losing the next four in a row. Does anybody see any way of halting the slide? Everton looks very difficult after tonight's rash of yellow and red cards. This could be a horror show, predicting the score almost irrelevant.

With Schneiderlin fit again on Saturday JWP will be on the bench but at least we have the option of subbing one of the midfielders at the 2/3rd's point with a guy of some quality. Obviously Hesketh won't be fit so no competition from him yet awhile but if I was JWP I'd be looking over my shoulder at this even younger pretender who looks suspiciously like a future goal machine
-
Come off it wiggles that is massively out of order as well you know. Sound like you've got a problem or two of your own to sort out.
-
Anybody loosing faith yet? Sad to say we look more and more like a one man team with that man sitting in the stand huddled up in a padded parka tweeting his mates. Invidious to blame individuals for today's let down, nobody played well enough. We need players on the bench who can genuinely lift a side and inject sparkle and decisiveness when the starting XI get bogged down as they did today.

FA Cup 3rd Round - Ipswich (H) - £10 tickets
Charlie Wayman replied to Wiggles31's topic in The Saints
Bought my tickets yesterday so at least 2 attending. Worth the money just to see Mick MaCarthy again. Great guy who says it as he sees it and always seems able to be too good for the championship but not quite good enough for the PL. If indeed Ipswich get promoted this time let's all hope that their top management will be a bit more patient and understanding than those impatient dolts at Wolves & Sunderland in the past. You don't get promoted time after time without a reason, like being a bloody good football man manager. -
No, no, no we just cannot afford to have Jose and Maya playing together, one or t'other always produces at least one coc.kup of a howler per match whereas Toby is steady as a rock and brings more out of Jose. Try Yosh up front as a sub.

I'd be very surprised if we didn't score at least 4 tomorrow 4-0 sounds about right to me... it has good ring to it
-
But it sends out the wrong messages, TV invariably picks up the crowd movements and can't resist the chance to mutter on about "It's clear what Saints fans think of this... etc" Also the players can sense this as well and at a time when they're giving their all and knackered of course they are bound to think "Well if those bar stewards don't give a tos.s why should we!" I drive, I stay to the end. I'll still be there when the last ember dies and the final shot has echoed off the roofs. If you're Red & White then say for the night!
