If you take that away from him what's left to justify a place in the team? There's nothing else on offer.

Everyone is judged on their last performance these days, why should Puel be immune to this degree of scrutiny. Do you not think that maybe he - Puel - is only towing the party line by talking endlessly about developing the young players and playing the odd one now and again? He is not addressing us when he says these things he is showing Les what a good boy he is. No new players will come in in January because Puel won't have the guts to stand up to Reed and make it a make it break issue. Sadly from his point of view, he'll get the blame from upstairs whichever way this turns out as appeasement never works. Bet your life no **** will stick to Uncle Les even if we get the BIG R as reward for or season's efforts.

The positive thread (doom merchants need not read)
Charlie Wayman replied to Tom28's topic in The Saints
Must have been at the gin bottle last night if you believe 1/10th of what you have written. Sadly apologists like you ensure we will remain locked into this downward spirral which has only one logical outcome if you care to think clearly and remove your pink-tinged specs. -
Saints 1 Hapoel Be'er Sheva 1 - Match & Meltdown Thread
Charlie Wayman replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
We played tonight without plan or purpose, passion or belief and for all the world it looked like the senior players had to make up their own game plans as they went along. Cedric ran and crossed, Bertie tried to be everywhere at once to work out his frustration. Redmond did what Redmond always does better than any other winger in the PL, made a right pigs-ear of everything he tried. Worse player of the match was he closely followed by Hojberg. Claude Puel failed tonight as he has failed so many times recently, seemingly tactically naive and unable to change the pattern of play at all. No doubt questions will be asked in the morning, if they have a name or two in mind he could be sitting very uncomfortably on Sunday. I think I've seen enough now to stop believing that he can stop our slide; if he does go let's hope Black goes with him. -
If he doesn't get to start tomorrow night how about we encourage Puel with fan power and this simple chant; We Want Jose Fonte! It wasn't long ago that our mass choir's "swing him from the Itchen Bridge" saw the back of the universally hated one. It would also be a reminder to Jose where his loyalties should lie. Come on Northam, do your stuff!

It was very one sided but I liked the way Boro were set up and moved the ball around whilst finding pockets of space all over the pitch. If we let them settle they might skin us so we need a fast start à l' Everton. Gaston played a blinder against a team we found hard to break down in the final third and scored a peach at the end. He had superb game reading abilities so one wonders why he didn't settle here. Will probably turn out to be a dour affair in the end and it's pretty even steven's on the outcome. The way we have been messing about of late plus the hangover from tomorrow night will probably see us lose 0-1.

We cannot afford to let Jose Fonte go - end of story! Sounds very similar to John Terry saga. Too many big effing ego's upstairs at our club, small minded men who have struck it rich and lucky. A cautionary word Gentlemen, the fickle wheel of fate keeps turning and one day it will point at you.

FA Cup 3rd Round Draw - Norwich away. Yawn.
Charlie Wayman replied to lickierambert's topic in The Saints
Trust that Scouser **** to make sure No 35 didn't get picked out by him for a home match. Norwich away? Could have been worse. I was rather hoping for Eastleigh at St Mary's. -
.... but that's how it used to happen, do you not remember? People like Leon Crouch put their own money into our club to keep it going not to become rich as he was already that but because SFC was a passion for him as it is for us and so it was for Marcus Liebherr. Now we seem to be in a different ball game where his daughter sees the club only as a cash cow for personal gain rather than a passion. Has greed overtaken altruism? I'll leave others to pass judgement on that.

Tonight's the Night! Enjoy!

Easily pleased. I suppose your idea of a good time is lying on your back with your feet and arms in the air having your tummy tickled!

I think he is really poor at this level. In one game a couple of years ago Tadic provided nearly as many goals and assists in the 8 goal drubbing of Sunderland that Redmond has contributed in all the games he has played for us so far? That's how he must be judged. Did you not see the reactions of some of his team mates yesterday? He was getting a right ear bashing from Cedric and one or two others for wasting chances when given through balls on a plate. If his team mates are not happy with how he has performed why should fans be?

What purpose is served by your constant negativity, we are not going down so why harp on about it. -

Just get rid of Redmond, Austin and Ward Prowse. Simple really. Total Shambles. Only Cedric played with any credit and Bertie who started before being knackered. -
Absolutely the best centre back we have ever had and I have seen them all. He'll stay for a while especially if we can pay him what he's worth and forget about expensive signings to cover it. Let's use our money wisely.

Isn't that what we did on Wednesday night up at the Emirates?

I feel sorry for Maya because there are plenty on here who have done nothing but slag him off from Day 1. It seems a section of the so-called fan base needs a whipping boy to blame for all our failures. Most players make howlers during a match but these fans let it pass by especially if it's one of their favourite players but not so for poor old Maya who gets abuse on here almost weekly. It is naive to think he doesn't get to read what fans are saying and constant negativity towards him must have an impact on the player on the pitch and emotionally. Time now for all these people to get off his back and recognise that the is one hell of a good player and we are lucky indeed to have a guy of his talent prepared to take a back seat most of the time and then play a blinder when called upon to do so. Many PL teams would love to have him in their starting formations but he has stayed loyal to us and even to those brain challenged morons who are forever on his case.

Arsenal 0-2 Saints - Reaction & Semi Final Draw
Charlie Wayman replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
Isn't it great that JWP & MT rarely get mentioned as young academy lads these days, such fixtures have they become and yet that's what they are. They were missing last night but suppose they had played a part as well...... Mind you with Bertie in the form of his life Matt & Sam are going to have to go some to feature on merit rather than through rotation. The big Q is will any of these boys get the nod for Wembley or are they just doing the leg work for the big beasts to seize the glory. There'll be no take it or leave it attitude on that stage believe me. -
23:05 train from Waterloo after the Arsenal gane
Charlie Wayman replied to kwsaint's topic in The Saints
The London Underground is like that every day now with line closures, strike action and just the sheer numbers of people using the network - you get used to it but there is no solution. Late night trains from Waterloo to our part of the world have been a nightmare for several years, there are always cancellations of the later trains due to "technical issues" on the line like drivers not reporting in for duty or signal failures. It is not unusual to be diverted through Guildford & Cosham to get home two hours later than expected. What can we do about it? FA that's what, nobody's listening and we are stuck with a Victorian railway system that just does not work properly. We nearly always drive up to town these days for evening's out because as stressful and costly as it is at least we know we can get home eventually even with the inevitable road closures and diversions through places you've never heard of (like yesterday!!!!). On public transport the only thing that can be guaranteed is that you will suffer massive inconvenience and life-threatening frustration at some point of your journey. Mind you expecting it doesn't make it any less unbearable. -
Arsenal 0-2 Saints - Reaction & Semi Final Draw
Charlie Wayman replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
Totally agree, there must be huge belief in the manager amongst the players, every man played their hearts out for the team tonight. Clasie was excellent and that goal will surely do wonders for him and Bertie just keeps getting better. Utterly bewildering play from us at times. -
Had it every occurred to anybody that he might actually want to stay here for a few years and help build the champions of tomorrow. In my experience Dutch people are very honest and very loyal and amongst the most honest in the world. I'll wager he is nowhere near as mercenary as some on here and in the media seem to think. Even Les & Kat will not dare to put money first as VVD is the very heart of Puel's new team and without him we really would be a candidate for relegation.
-
We shouldn't forget Sam McQueen's debut either, after all it was only a few matches ago and now we think of him as a full-on first team player despite only having started 3 or 4 times. Why not play Sam on the left wing and Josh on the right perhaps.
-
...but we could finish 6th.
-
Josh Sims, just another water carrier? Come on man give a little bit of credit where it is due. For a debut appearance the lad was simply outstanding showing a level of maturity that escaped many of the other senior players out there. I don't know if you have ever seen him before but many on here have watched his progress through the junior sides with excitement, he can carry the ball, pick out a cross, bet his man and shoes goals. He and Seagar are the bees knees make no mistake about it and water carrier he is not. He reminds me very much of the young Lallana all those years ago but this my friend is not League 1, this is the Premier League and what we saw and you saw yesterday was something rather special. MotM? Not really but youngsters on here get excited or depressed at the drop of a hat.

I hear that Arsenal are in for him in the window, three tubes of Smarties and an original 1980's Millennium Falcon. Les is delighted with the offer. Only snag Josh, the beard... Loose that bloody beard!
