Saints v Spurs NYD - Build Up & Match Thread
Charlie Wayman replied to John Boy Saint's topic in The Saints
Hope he will not be leaving this month. He looked really committed and up for it when he returned from loan in the summer but having not been given much game time by Ralph, one could understand that he might have decided to call it a day here. -
Saints have benefitted most from VAR this season.

Not unpopular at all. Best to ignore the anti-Cedric clan on here.

They should have been three or four up at HT -

We beat them here last season although luck played its part. We are better and meaner this season so no reason to fear the big club hype. -

Also depends upon which Saints side turns up. It'll be 1-1 in my view although Stephens willingness to keep an eye on Kane for 90 mins may be the key -
You pedant, why pick on one player. Cedric is one of the best and gutsiest players we have; if you think Valery has anywhere near his quality then you will get a very rude awakening if your wish came true. Anyway Ralph is not as daft as you seem to be and Cedric will. not only not be going anywhere in Jan but will also be offered a new contract in the summer unless he wants away. Get used to it!

The common factor in our good away form is that we always play in yellow/ grey. The common factor in our poor home form is that we always play in Red & White. Can it be just visibility that aids our fast passing game, easier to pick out our own players? Yellow / Black is always associated with danger to life. Maybe just maybe this is a factor in our comparative success away? Simple solution really Ralph, ditch the red & white and play in yellow/grey for the rest of the season home and away.

Ings' second against Villa was breath-taking, how he scored from that angle as he pivoted was remarkable. As one who suggested that we should reneged on the £20m outstanding payment in June because of his fragility I am quite willing to eat humble pie. I guess in a Sky Blue shirt he might score as many as Sterling or Aguero. He would certainly suit their style of play.

Adams looks lazy to me and will not track back. He is an orthodox centre forward running the channels or waiting for crosses but seems to have no other strings to his bow. In effect "off the ball" Adams is next to useless so perfectly obvious why Ralph doesn't give him much game time. Time and again Ralph demands recovery action off the ball and rates that almost as highly as scoring goals. He is not a patch on Ricky Lambert who could hold up the ball, constantly draw players out of position and still be in the right place at the right time to hit the back of the net most games he played.

Aston Villa 1 - 3 Saints - FT - Reactions and Christmas Cheer!
Charlie Wayman replied to Heisenberg's topic in The Saints
Of course Dave you are right, the pundits have always wanted Grealish to succeed for whatever reasons even though by and large his career has been even less impressive than that of our own golden boy JWP. Ergo, it follows that if Grealish even kicks the ball it is a "silky touch" and if he actually scores a fairly straightforward goal as he did on Saturday then it is "a wonder goal" and goal of the century. What mystifies me is that 'cherished golden locks' has spent some of his career in the Championship, never made the England team and most games looks our of his depth. I just don't get the hype? -
28,000 fans at SMS v measly 1500/2500 at away games. I doubt so-called 'away fans' have much to do with our relative success on the road. In any case aren't they mostly the same people?

Although Chelsea beat Spurs 2-0 today they didn't look that much of a force to me and a lot of their play was long balls back to front in the hope that the strikers could latch onto them. Dodgy penalty decision flattered them and Spurs were woeful and just didn't turn up. Jose has some work to do there while Lampard's team are quite ploddy and predictable compared to recent Chelseas sides. Saints ought to get something from this game if they hustle and harried their way to victory as they did yesterday.

"Awful" as in we only beat poor teams? -

Cedric is always "the downside" for you. You really are a tedious bigot. Cedric played really well yesterday and it must stick in your Crawl to swallow that fact. -

That's a bit far fetched but he could attract offers which might suit the club. -

So what was all the fuss about? The new stream lined Jack Stevens looked decent. Any criticism today would be churlish. Great result. COYS -
It's OVER now then! Monday morning will be interesting if we don't win.

Not the time to hold one's breath, doubt we'll chuck any money at the problems in Jan irrespective of our financial situation. Gao must have a real fear of relegation and the loss in value of his asset so will not be wanting what accrued monies there are at the club to be wasted on trying to save a sinking ship.

Ralph is not some super amazing manager and that is the nub of the problem. His arrival was pumped up by the club and the media as some kind of coup with no regard to how many more renowned and illustrious managers had failed at PL level. Even his nickname Klopp of the Alps misleadingly suggested he was exceptional. The guy never had a snowball's chance of living up to those preconceptions. It remains to be seen whether he will be regarded here as any better than Puel or Pellegrino but things are not looking particularly rosy for him right now. At least they can blame Ralph K if it all ends in tears.

Britain fell into decline in the 70's simply because people were NOT asked for their opinions by anybody, so the likes of Triumph, Norton, BMC / Leyland and so on churned out products that the engineers thought "were good for them" but were in fact complete rubbish so people stopped buying them and turned elsewhere. here we are now with no industrial base worth the name. In my own experience Marketeers can be at times waste of space bull sh*tt*rs but they are also far more likely to find the key to customer satisfaction than a bunch of bean counters or over privileged public schoolboy con-men. When the team is performing as badly as it is at the moment, these guys are probably doing their best to keep as many fans as possible on board. Whether making the match day experience more satisfying helps is a mute point. Of course there are limits, even offering healthy eating options served at table by waiters probably wouldn't quite offset a 0-9 drubbing on a wet cold November day to make it more bearable on the trudge back home.

I think he is pointing out the pointlessness of it all. -

Dusic, top marks for diligence and effort and having nothing better to do in the run-up to Christmas but your entry is far too long to read so for that reason I won't be responding. -
What is the point of picking a fight we can't win. Best Johnson & his buddies concentrate on a few more pressing local issues like Social Services, the NHS and lawlessness. The days of Empire and being the World's policemen are long gone.

So how is that different to what's going on in India?
