  1. Diallo can't be left out. Play him in preference to Armstrong for the first 60 mins. Walcott on the left. Agree with you about Walcott, when he plays up top his against-the-ball aggression and energy are wasted even 'though he's a natural goal scorer. We don't seem to have any option other than to play N'Lundulu with Adams. Hobson's choice really.
  2. That may be a factor but he does seem to have a bit more about him than £ signs. Isn't his Dad a local lawyer or something and didn't we read a few years ago that JWP would fall back on that profession had he not made the grade as a footballer? The real test of our new appeal might come If Tella or N'Lundulu make the grade, will be interesting to see how long they hang around. The fact that most of our promising lads end up elsewhere in lower divisions shows that a lack of loyalty is not a one way street, the club is equally as ruthless and mercenary as any young player that has left us. The idea that one day Saints might field a first XI with 50 or 60% of Academy developed players is just a pipe dream.
  3. We all know that feeling. I could never understand how my obvious talent as a defender went almost unnoticed despite many outstanding performances of keeping the goals against in single figures.
  4. Most of our Academy success stories featured players who became most famous after they moved away; Shearer, Bridge, Shaw, Bale, Walcott, Lallana (?) I suppose we should include JWP in that list of illustrious names, one of the few who has stayed here to improve our team rather than our bank balance..
  5. A real shame that Tyreke Johnson hasn't made more of a mark here, there seemed to be so much promise from him at the beginning with some outstanding performances for the U23's. He has real pace. In the days when we were allowed to watch football matches at St Mary's - even the U23's - there always seemed to be a ripple of excitement when he was announced as part of the starting XI. Sadly his cameo against The Gunners as a late sub a couple of years ago remains his only PL outing with the senior side. The fact that he has been out on loan ever since tells its own story. Ralph has had a look at him and decided he is not for us, pity as he still only 22. Ruthless profession these days.
  6. We should keep the Romeu / JWP partnership going come what may, it is the engine room of our team. Diallo's outstanding performance against the BDs means he should be included in the starting XI. The obvious swap is for Armstrong who has struggled of late and needs some time out. RH could also try a 4-3-3
  7. His mother probably said "don't head the bloody ball son or you'll end up with Alzheimer's"
  8. You mean like Michael and Micky? Richard & Dicky? Nicholas & Nicky? I'm sure most including Rickie see themselves as Ricky! 😂
  9. Still make him over the hill and far away....
  10. That's good, I suggested signing him several years ago when he was a raw kid. Always seemed to have real potential that has so far gone unfulfilled. As for those seeing a future here for Chambers, you need to get down to Specsavers! This is not a retirement home for ex-Saints wannaways. Ricky Lambert would be a safer bet.
  11. Most of the ex-Saints have been moved on. Only Mane and a cameo by AOC. Time to put this jibe to bed.
  12. Good result even if a bit lucky. Diallo looks decent. Ref fair.
  13. The teams that have held Liverpool to a draw have generally been defence minded teams well set up to weather the inevitable storm of fast raids by their three frontmen. We are not set up like that at all, our normal attacking game will play right into their hands and they will pick us off piece by piece with fast counter attacks. With our usual reluctance to score and predictable descent into panic stations defending, the best I can see coming is 1-3 to the visitors and perhaps even worse. They are just too good for us in particular. No doubt RH will see only good from the defeat
  14. Yes, it's been down since yesterday. Not seen the press events or anything. Surely they should have sorted it by now.
  15. It's the offside rule that needs to be clarified not VAR. Standing in an offside position when the ball is last played should be offside? This hand, foot ,toe, elbow thing is ruining the game.
  16. I agree with that. Is there any basic set of requirements or process for appointing soccer pundits or is it all a carve up between Lineker and his mates MeMe Shearer & Ever-Wrong Wright? Don't get me started on Jermaine Jenas........ expletive deleted. Sadly none of them seem to have even the faintest idea of English grammar, ostensibly their native language!
  17. Hmm! Not sure this is wise, there is so much that isn't known about this virus. If people don't believe a positive result then why would they believe a negative one? Sounds like the philosophy here is keep testing until you get the result you want. Never trust anybody who has a vested interest in brushing problems under the carpet. If he does turn up for training before Monday then please SFC make sure he wears mask. At least it will help limit the damage that could be done.
  18. Where did that pearl of wisdom come from?
  19. No way JWP will leave Southampton. Stop worrying.
  20. Newcastle effectively stifled the Scousers attack last night and it was interesting to see the league leaders resorting to long speculative balls over to the wings in order to try and breakdown the Geordies defence..... but without success. Not only that but in the early part of the game Newcastle looked the better side and should have gone ahead from at least one of the chances they created. The Liverpool defence looked all over the place at times and their much lauded full backs looked anything but the world class players that many hold them to be. This should give us real encouragement as we comprehensively outclassed Newcastle in all departments and won convincingly when they came to St Mary's earlier in the season. That doesn't mean that there are grounds for complacency, far from it but it could mean that Liverpool can be beaten especially when they are on the road. This just might be one of the big upsets of the weekend fixtures. I can see the copy lines now after Danny Ings grabs a hat-trick against his old muckers!
  21. Hope he is not beginning to complain about his lot here, after all he knew what he was taking on.
  22. You are right of course but it is ironic that we let the lad go and brought in another untested youngster who is seemingly no better to replace him. Perhaps the lesson to be learned is that Boufal's occasional bursts of brilliance which Djenepo hasn't matched yet was about as good as it gets for Saints.
  23. Far too slow and far too unimaginative. I think we have been found out and can no longer break the lines as we did earlier in the season. WHU defended well in depth, not only could we not get through them but we didn't win many balls in their box either. The whole team was mediocre at best and seemingly out-of-sorts. Persisted too long with Djenepo when it was obvious he was having a mare. Bit concerned about this lad in fact. Felt sorry for Bertrand who had no outlet as a result and became largely ineffective as an attacking force. The game is all about partnerships and Redmond seems to be Bertie's natural partner. Once again we descended into our frustrating square and back passing game when we couldn't work out how to deal with their packed defence. It sometimes took two, three or even four safe intermediate passes before the ball found its way from the CBs to either KWP or Bertie on the wing when a single pass would have done the trick. Aargh! We seem terrified to lose the ball since RH announced that we are now a possession based team. I screamed at the Telly when Long replaced Adams and true to form he did his one run con trick and then disappeared from the game. Danny was well and truly shackled all evening and really didn't get a sniff after his early offside (Adams) foray. What is becoming self evident is that although we are hard to beat we are nowhere near creative or fast thinking enough to score many goals especially now in this league where everyone seems intent on keeping clean sheets. Of course we are not the only culprits but we need to up our game if we do not want to end up in mid-table mediocrity.
  24. If ever there was a meaningless statement this is it! How many of 'our fans" do you actually know? Reminder for you; Fans watch = passive Players play = active Managers manage = active
  25. The problem is that Ralph is risk averse and so very unlikely to start Salisu against this dogged and skilful WestHam side. We saw on Saturday how Diallo struggled on his first start with the pace of the modern PL game especially in the first half and a similar shock-wave would engulf Salisu. He wouldn't have time to settle in and then speed up. Last thing we need is to go one down early on. Stephens will get the nod again for that reason, we don't have anybody else!
