Despite the mockery, when it comes to culture Portsmouth has a lot more going for it than the cultural desert that is our home town.

I'll await Wade's take on us stepping into the Lion's Den but after recent perfomances it's hard to see past a Saints win, just a matter of how many we can score. I'll stick my neck out and say 6-0.

Probably a bit too early in the guy's career for the Scousers or himself to take a punt. We should take comfort from the fact that Frank was not tempted away from Brentford even after promotion. My gut feeling is that Eckert is cast from a similar mould, if he sees Saints as his project he'll probably want to stay with us to try his hand at the Premier League with a group of players he feels comfortable with. Young hopefuls willing to learn form a far different proposition from a bunch of millionare prima donna's who think they know everything there is to know already.

He looks world class to me; comparisons to Steven Davis do not do him justice. Romeu is exactly the tutor he needs right now to help hone his skills.

In retrospect Still was a total calamity for our club and his incompetence was there in plain sight for all to see almost from the beginning of his tenure. Highlighting aspects of his shortcomings cannot mask the evidential overall characterisation of his performance here as being clueless. Decent enough bloke but that's not what the Club were paying for.

One suspects he and Aribo are in the last chance saloon before the New Year transfer window. Neither justified their places in the team even as subs last night.
-
He seems to have frightened Adam into being almost lost for words at times and that's saying something. I noticed on Saturday too that he was berating one of our players after only two minutes play so he's clearly not to be messed about with. A few minutes later the camera caught him gesturing to one of his assistants that two clear chances had been missed and he did not look pleased. It's about time our lads felt a bit intimidated and fearful of the boss rather than the all pals together approach of our recently departed Russ & Will

Almost guaranteed Leo is going to get clobbered by the big bully boys sooner rather than later as they resort to dirty tactics to try and stop him. I hope he's prepared for that and doesn't get intimidated. Leicester could be number one culprits.

We still seem unable to cope with crosses into our box from wide positions and there'll be plenty of those tomorrow night. This has less to do with formation, more indviduals like Stephens dozing off and allowng free headers.

Most likely to be a sell out with our recent uptick in performances especially yesterday's.

Here we go again, best performance for years and some nut has to come up with that old trope "We only beat poor teams". There are going to be a lot of poor teams in this league before the season ends my friend.

Well done Eckert for doing exactly what it says on the tin, keep the ball moving quickly and always pass forward. Should have been 8 in the first 30 mins but I'll take 5. Loved the little one touch triangles in midfield, how good was it to see our players finding spaces to receive the ball without challenges. Big shout out for Cameron Bragg another discovery from the Academy alongside Jay Robinson, what a debut. Let's hope they can find a goal scoring striker. Roll on Tuesday, it's about time we beat Leicester.

Maybe Eckert isn't such a bad option as you think after all?

Charlton and Leicester matches are on Sky (and Now TV) so a monthly sub will be cheaper than the two paid for separately but remember to cancel the sub at the end of the month.

What a change to have a thoughtful and articulate manager take the weekly press conferences again. After Still's nonsensical drivel week after week it is quite refreshing to listen to Eckert field the questions. The guy is giving me some good vibes. For the first time in ages I am feeling confident about tomorrow's trip to The Valley. We might sneak this 2-1

A tad extreme when you don't know their side of the story. It may not be quite as easy as you think
-
Not really. Still had no system of play whatsoever, players were left to make it up as they went along. There's nothing wrong with possesion based football at all as long as it doesn't deteriorate into aimless sideways and backwards passing just to keep the ball. Players must learn to receive the ball to feet, turn quickly and always pass forward to break the lines. Eckert should drill this into their heads and fine them - or drop them - if they do not follow these golden rules.

It's not difficult to understand SR's dilemma and the hesitancy over their next managerial appointment having ballsed it up five times in a row and with vultures (fans) squawking overhead in anticipation of another discarded carcass. They must feel sometimes that they just cannot win. Doing nothing seems to be their best option at the moment - i.e., promoting from within - and the least risky to their reputation and bank balance. They may have taken the view that Eckert may not succeed but nor would there be any guarantee that a new outside appointee would fare any better in which case they might as well stick with Eckert and hope their luck turns. A win on Saturday and my bet is he's got the job for the rest of the season.

Storm in a teacup, click bait for The Guardian. You clicked, I didn't.

You can fool most of the people some of the time etc………………...

Can't agree with your on Still. He was an atrocious communicator, his pc's were appallingly inept and it amazes me that he cobbled together enough articulation to impress anybody other than the tea lady - no disrespect intended. "Russ" of course was a world class bullshystter
-
There was one in Salisbury exactly like that as well a few years ago.
-
He was removed because he was pathetic, poor at communications, poor at coaching and a poor tactician.
-
SR have had to pay off five managers since Ralph left so from a purely financial perspective it is not difficult to see why they turned to Eckert and hope he comes good. He's already on the payroll and if it doesn't work out he simply returns to his old job. No pay off, no losses whereas there is absolutely no guarantee that a Name manager brought in at great expense would succeed any more than his predecessors. SR don't have an unlimited amount of dole money to keep handing out.

This season is written off anyway so why not give him a go?
