  1. Jesus. For once an interesting post about a potential new owner and it is totally diluted with idiots spouting absolute rubbish about spelling and grammar. It was funny for the first post but its getting a bit tiresome now. Any chance we can nip it in the bud guys?
  2. Every club has a fair proportion of deluded supporters. We have more than your average. The amount of fans on the main page that think we have some divine right to expect a billionaire to buy us and carry us back to the glory days of Premier League mid-table obscurity is rather unsettling. Despite this, I know we have a great set of fans because I sit amongst them at matches but can appreciate there are a fair few that expect everything on a plate. Bit unfair to think they represent the feelings of an entire fanbase. Whilst on the subject, do you think producers of 606 would prefer an idiot spouting the rubbish you have quoted a fan saying or someone who gives an honest assessment of the state that club is in? I'm sure it would be the former as it encourages more people to call to carry the argument on. Such as the BBC website saying "Tears as Newcastle go down" as their headline. There were about 3 people blubbing and the rest were taking the relegation with dignity which is a lot more than can be said for supporters of other clubs.
  3. When Glenn Roeder was manager Newcastle had a lot more dangerous players at their disposal. The likes of Kieron Dyer, Scott Parker, Emre all players who could spot a pass and provide that final ball which is what they have lacked this season. Contrary to what most people believe, Keegan was actually a very good appointment. He identifies with the Newcastle fans and actually had them playing very good football at the end of last season and beginning of this season. He left because he was undermined by that little scrote Dennis Wise. Any manager worth their salt would up an leave in the same situation and I dont blame Keegan for doing so. Shearer, like Keegan identifies with the Newcastle fans. He is a realist and knows things wont happen overnight with getting the club back to where they want to be but he knows how the fans want them to play and will be afforded the time to get things right due to his standing as a legend of the club. He is also reasonably smart and knows he was in a no lose situation. If Newcastle survived, he would have the clout to demand a huge transfer budget to overhall the squad and if they did get relegated would have a good few weeks to assess everything thats wrong with the club and address the issues. Whether Mike Ashley heeds his advice or hires another "yes man" such as Kinnear who is simply pleased to be there we will have to wait and see... Sam Allardyce was an awful manager for Newcastle. I have a large Geordie contingent in my family and actually watched a couple of Newcastle games under his leadership and they truly were awful. All their fans ask for is a team that show pride in the shirt, look as if they want to be there and play a simple passing brand of football. Under Allardyce they got none of those things. Players we disillusioned with the tactics, didnt put in a decent shift and hoofed the ball at every opportunity. Can you blame the fans turning on Allardyce if the players already had? I cant. As for Graeme Souness, he dismantled a perfectly good squad he inherited from Bobby Robson. Maybe not title contenders but comfortably a top 6 outfit. He seemed to make it his priority to fall out with Newcastle's most gifted, creative players such as Bellamy and Robert. He signed the likes of Amdy Faye, Jean-Alain Boumsong, Albert Luque and Michael Owen all on massive wages and involving huge transfer fees. All of those players best days were behind them, they clearly didnt want to be there and only signed for the money. Is that really the fans fault? I dont think so. Yes, Newcastle's manager list in recent years has been a joke and is no surprise they have been relegated. They deserve it on the balance of how they have performed over the course of a season but it is far too easy to simply rest the blame at the feet of their fans. Mike Ashley needs to take a long look at himself and realise that the main reason Newcastle have failed so miserably is because of him. You cannot sell players like Milner, N'Zogbia and Given and replace them with no-one at all. As for comparing Newcastle to us, its a totally different kettle of fish. The clubs are in totally different circumstances behind the scenes. Despite going down, in terms of revenue Newcastle are still something stupid like the 17th richest club in the world. I'm sure it wont be the case next year but they will have a considerably larger amount in their coffers than we did and wont be held to ransom for any players they dont want to sell (although I cant think of many beyond Harper, Taylor, Beye, Bassong and Guthrie).
  4. Millwall is so overhyped its untrue. I went a few seasons back (we won 2-0 or 2-1, cant really remember. Think Walcott scored, remember singing "Theo, give us a wave, Theo, Theo, give us a wave" as he had the ball. He literally stopped mid-dribble and waved at the fans!) I went to the game with such trepidation, constantly looking over my shoulder. From the moment you set foot on the train to the stadium you are seperated from the home fans and then caged in for the half-mile walk from the station to the stadium so no-one can get to you. Nothing to worry about for this one, unless you go looking for trouble.
  5. I hate the way so many fans take delight in the plight of a club like Newcastle. A lot of people seem to profess that all Newcastle fans think they have a divine right to be in the Premier League. Not true. They have excellent, humble support at home and away who love the club and support them no matter how drab their performances. Yes, their average home attendance has dropped this season to about 48,000 but thats still a hell of a large gate for a team serving up such poor performances. That club is rotton to the core and getting relegated this season is possibly the best thing that could happen to them. It's not their fault they were willing and have the means to pay their players handsomely, but a string of poor managers and poor decisions had seen them with a squad comprised by about 7 managers all with different ideas on personel and how the team should play. I honestly think they will walk the Championship next season. They will rid themselves of dead wood and mercenaries like Owen, Duff, Coloccini, Viduka etc... and be left with some decent young players, good experienced players and enough money to buy some players who will play for the club with pride, which is what they dont have enough of at the moment.
  6. Alps would be Widow T****y.
  7. I have been saying for a while I spoke to a client recently who said he was mates with Souness. He confirmed Souness is moving back down to Hampshire but wouldnt tell me if it was anything to do with Saints. Just said he's got a few business interests in the area.
  8. I'm not mad at all. He got Newcastle playing well towards the end of last season and got a good result against Man Utd and Bolton this season before he left. He also wouldnt come unless there was money to spend as well, which is why I think it would be amazing. There are still a multitude of players out there who would want to play for him and his record of promotion is second to none.
  9. I'd personally rather have Wotte than Cotterill. Tisdale could be a decent shout, young coach bit of history with Saints. Keegan would be amazing. It would not only galvanise the club as he would play football the way it should be played and motivate the players, but it would also mean to club has a fair amount of cash to spend in the transfer market as he wouldnt join otherwise, so I doubt very much it will be him. Graeme Souness is moving back down to Hampshire, but I think it is more for personal business reasons rather than Soouthampton Football Club. Hopefully Keegan, I'd settle for Tisdale but I think we should be careful in replcaing Wotte for just anybody. I think he is a decent coach and could potentially do a decent job if we have the means to back him a little bit in the transfer market.
  10. I like the song. Although to me, it does have an air of things coming to an end rather than inspiring hope and unity amongst fans. I like the lyric about Chapel End though as it sounds like a place rather than a stand which makes in inclusive to a wider audience than just Saints fans.
  11. He's been offered loads of different roles but its never offered any more money than he gets with Sky Sports for minimal work so he has never bothered. Cant say I blame him.
  12. Reading have done no better in their years at the Madjeski than we have. 2 seasons in the Premier League followed by 2 seasons in the Championship, with a play-off appearance. We managed 2 or 3 seasons in the Premier League at SMS, with European football and an FA Cup final appearance plus 3 seasons in the Championship with 1 play-off appearance. Dont get me wrong, I'd rather be in Reading's boots now but they havent exactly achieved anything more than us. I've been to the Madjeski a few times, decent enough stadium it is but give me SMS any time.
  13. I usually agree with a lot of your posts Wes, but a lot of the things Rupert Lowe wanted in this "complex" was facilities for fans to drink at. At the moment, I can think of one pub in Stoneham, which wouldnt be anywhere near enough to accomodate all the fans, plus travel to Stoneham would have had to be massively revised. As it is, we have a stadium that was very much 2nd choice but only 2nd choice if we could have got Stoneham with all the trimmings, which we didnt get. We now have a stadium within close proximity to our city centre which made a lot more sense logistically.
  14. Without wanting in anyway to appear ITK, I was chatting with a client of mine last week who is very close friends with Graeme Souness (I found out as we were actually talking about Newcastle United and I said it's all gone wrong with them since they sacked Bobby Robson and replaced him with Souness). Anyway, when I found out I asked if he knew if there was any legs in rumours linking him with a takeover of Southampton. He said he didnt know about that but he is actually in the process of moving back to Hampshire. I'm aware he owns a wine company in Southampton as his business partner is my mates next door neighbour in Hiltingbury. Apparently he also owns a steel company down here as well which my client reckoned was behind the reason for moving down. DIdnt think of mentioning at the time but might tie in with this rumour if so.
  15. lol. Post of the day without a doubt. Very good.
  16. I'm not one to grumble as the lineup does look strong but I also recommended my mates band The Reason who have headlined at venues up and down the country including the Cavern Club in Liverpool and havent heard anything about them being on the bill and I reckon they are better than the majority of bands already on the bill.
  17. I'd love to see MLT with these new-fangled all-singing, all-dancing balls. I'd go for MLT every time just because of his quirkiness. Looking at him, he should never have been a professional football but was blessed with sublime natural skill. When looking at Ronaldo, he is a proper athlete and looks like he belongs on a football field... which is boring.
  18. SUggestion for a celebration tonight to any lucky goalscorers... run the full length of one of the empty stands cupping your ear or putting your finer to your lips to shush to chairs!
  19. Which is exactly why American sports are boooooooooooooooring.... ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz....
  20. Are you reading Paul Allen?!?!?!
  21. Soy Sauce, Sherry, Garlic, Honey, little bit of orange juice. You've got yourself a teriyaki marinade.
  22. My Uncle Scott used to play drums or Perfect Alibi. They are a very good band.
  23. Amy was my number 1...
  24. What about Longview? I used to go to Thornden with the lead singers sister Anna, whom I believe is going out with Danny McNamara from Embrace. Not sure if they still do but theres a couple of bands with local links.
  25. Am I right in thinking, if Eastleigh get past Yeading, we are in the final which is played at Wembley?
