FFS. Yes he would, but Benali was a defender with nothing but guts, pride and passion. People are expecting Guly to display the attributes of someone as gritty as Benali. If he had scored his chance everyone would be on here bumming him.
-
He is, I totally agree and rate him as much as the next Saints fan but today was not his best day. He slowed our attacks down time and again.
-
So what did Lallana contribute today apart from a few neat turns and runs that went nowhere? All he did time and time again was go past his man, and then let them get back in to position. Exactly like Fabrice Fernandes use to do.
-
Haven't signed anyone as yet though have we? Injuries and the fact that De Ridder hasn't made the impact he suggested he would at the start of the season may force them to re-evaluate.
-
We need more energy in midfield. This is more important than another forward at the moment. When Chaplow plays he gives us this but another player to help in this department would help us more than another forward in my opinion.
-
Fine. Stick Dan Harding there then. Surely going to be more competent than Guly in defensive duties.
-
He is a flair player in so much as all he needs is a split second and he can change the game. Either with a pass like last week when Rickie should have scored or with a cute little run like today when he was foiled by a good save from their 'keeper. The fact people are claiming he was largely anonymous today but could still have been our match winner means that he is a flair player.
-
Erm... we didn't lose?
-
Lallana? You have to be joking to give him a mention. Some nice little dribbles but time and time again he slowed down our attacks and didn't pass it quickly enough. It's no good dribbling the ball past someone if you are going to let them get back in to position afterwards. He kept doing it all game. I'd go for Cork or Hooiveld.
-
Still doesn't mean I'm wrong. How many flair players do you know that crunch in to 50/50 defensive headers? Not many, one suspects.
-
Why? We are the divisions top scorers by quite a distance. More important is a right winger who can effect the game for the full 90 minutes and provide a bit of support for the full back. I'd like a new striker but I'd be very surprised if it is a top priority.
-
To be fair, put any south-American "flair" type forward on the back stick and that is exactly what you will get. Can you imagine Luis Suarez attacking that ball with abandon? No, the difference is I'd dare say Dalglish would put someone else there who would. I'm not having a go at Adkins, I think the guy is great but surely he should know this?
-
Not today because the Pompey defenders did a number on him. Guly is the type of player that needs time on the ball or his team mates to have time on the ball to get the best out of him. If he doesn't he is not effective. I'd expect Adkins to acknowledge this and know that in a game like todays it was unlikely we would be afforded the luxury of time on the ball and decide not to play him. Alas, Adkins chose to play him so you have to put up with the likliehood of Guly not being at his best.

He's not given up, just the new breed are as talented as he is but with much better focus. These days, if you want to beat Ronnie, make it a scrappy affair early in the match with long, low-scoring frames and he will lose interest.
-
Exactly. What do people want him to do? Ask to be substituted? He actually wasn't that bad. His running off the ball was good, would have scored but for a good save from their keeper, actually won quite a few headers and drew a lot of fouls. Pretty sure he was the one chopped down for their players booking when he would have otherwise put Richardson clean through on the right-wing.
-
The guy has been top draw for the most part of this season, particularly in home games. I think people need to lay off him a bit. When he's banging in the goals like he did against Middlesborough and Millwall etc... no one seems to mind his laid-back, languid approach. When he's splitting defences with passes like he did last week against Blackpool for Lambert to spank a shot straight at the keeper no one seemed to complain then. He is a luxury player at times, but his positives more than outweight his negatives. He perhaps struggles a bit in games like today when time on the ball is at a premium but give him that time on the ball and he is probably our most gifted player in terms of vision and providing a killer pass. To be honest, I'm more frustrated with Lallana recently. He seems to want to beat his man twice everytime when once will suffice.
-
Sod it, throw him in. Worth the gamble. We will need his energy and bite tomorrow.
-
Totally agree. I'd dearly love to see them fail to win promotion. If they don't get up whilst they are receiving paracute payments, they will be screwed.
-
I think the only immediate urgency is a right winger capable of creating an impact from the first minute, ideally with pace to burn and another forward. I have a feeling we'll look to sign someone who could do both jobs though.
-
Was a bit before my time admittedly and was obviously a great player for his time but football moves on. Players are also now athletes with superior conditioning. Because of this the opposition is also stronger which is why I am confident if you took Maradona from 1986 and directly compared him to Messi as he is now, Messi would be the better player.
-
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo would run rings around any of the old school greats in my opinion. Best player I've seen in his pomp is Thierry Henry. I think people forget how ridiculously unplayable he was.

Crystal Palace at home Boxing Day selling out fast!

Booked one for me and my brother in law today in the Kingsland/Northam corner. I can confirm that availability isn't great. -
2 pages unless you are in a profession that carries lots of qualifications and requires years of experience. 1 page is too short, looks like you've achieved nothing and 3 pages is an autobiography.

Apparently a VERY dodgy decision too...
