It would also encourage more saving, which we desperately need to happen. I don't expect anyone to feel sorry for the banks, but on the one hand they're being told to improve their Tier 1 capital rations, and on the other being told to increase lending. They can't raise capital on the markets in the current climate, and so reducing the asset book to bring Tier 1 capital into line is the only real option. Thems the facts.

Not saying whether right or wrong, but the justification will be: 1. Saints already have charities which they officially support. 2. Saints have no control over the administration of this Charity. If it transpires that most of the income gets taken up with "costs", they won't want the fall out. I guess there could be no objection to a "Francis Benali" Eleven v Eastleigh or such like.
