A great talent imo. I look forward to seeing him realise his potential this year. Although he has another year or two of physical development before we see his full impact. Interesting to see the photo of a young Morgan Schniederlin and how much he developed physically, and what that did for his game.

Jose must be freakin' superhuman after carrying that lot. Spurs are about to find out (as did Liverpool) that they signed the wrong guy.

It's also about the value to the team. MS isn't even at his peak yet. Another season with him and Vic in front of the back 4 more or less guarantees us a top 8 finish imo. That allows us to continue to attract up and coming talent and top youngsters in to the Accademy. Difficult to value that. On the other hand, £27m will allow us to invest in a quality replacement not yet proven in the EPL so in a year or two we can lighten the wallet of those mugs desperate to buy success in their chase after Chelsea and Man City.

This has overtures of the John Obi Mikel transfer from Lyn Oslo to Chelsea via Man Utd. In the end the player said he wanted to sign for Chelsea who, almost 12 months after the saga started, paid £4m to Lyn Oslo (the stated original transfer fee) and £12m to Man Utd. If Toby wants to sign for us, we'll get him, and probably for the £6.8m. If he wants to sign for Spurs they will probably have to pay the £6.8m to AM, and the balance to us, plus we get £1.5m from AM. Or some such. AM would be better off selling to us.

This time last year I'd never even heard of Toby Alderweireld, and could much less say his name. I'm not in the "he's impossible to replace camp" If we get him great, consistency is good. If not, I'm sure we'll sign someone equally as good that I've not heard of up to that point.
