Do you think they put Guthrie and Barton in opposing teams during training?
-
You're both right, and so is MW. HTH

In fairness, some fans at most clubs are out of touch, even ours. Expectations rising and falling like a double tide on the Solent. Forget the politics. Forget the multi-millionaires. Forget the big boys. Just go wth your kid on a Saturday and enjoy your team - "our" team.

Absolutely agree. We don't have a lot(!) of pace at the back. At home yesterday we played a high line and got caught. Away we'll play deeper at the back and stretch the play, giving more space to play our football. I think. Not having a UEFA pro Licence I don't really know what I'm talking about.

Jimmy Case is a chronic depressive who finds the cloud in every silver lining

OMG, you mean it's a conspiracy?
-
I'll ask again, what is your alternative strategy? Nobody likes what is happening, but it is not us calling the shots, its the financiers.
-
One event is a certainty (almost), the other is not. Unless you choose to tint your realism with an unhealhy does of pessimism.

My guess is it's not just his wages, but the fact there will almost certainly be further installments due on his transfer fee - very few fees are paid up front.
-
It would seem we are getting more than we paid for him, despite his poor injury record.
-
Perhaps we simply can't afford him, or the next installment on his transfer fee?
-
Of course I can see that. You're not the only one with a degree in stating the bleedin' obvious. The point is, what is the alternative? It might be, as you have stated elsewhere in your continual capaign of negativity, a choice between Administartion now or Admnistartion later, but there is no doubt we need to raise funds. Personally I would prefer to avoid Adminstration now, and hope we can garner sufficient points this season and build from there. We are where we are, and I see little point in contiually sniping. Is your only alternative strategy Administration now????
-
The only thing it proves, if true, is what we already knew. We are in the mire financially. Having failed to shift some of he higher earners - because they are higher earners in this league, others are open to offers. It seems to me the point of this is to avoid administration.

What a pathetic, mean minded, mean spirited, chip-on-the-shoulder thread. pah.

Baird wasn't worth £3m, as amply demonstrated last year. Thank goodness for Lawrie Sanchez. I'd have Baird back tho.
-
I guess then you don't actually know the answer, but based on absolutely no evidence are prepared to accept that other teams have a better blend of experience and youthful enthusiasm than "your" team. Why be so damning of Saints?
-
So, accepting we are going to be in the bottom half of the table, which of the teams likely to be with us are better off?
-
What was in the business plan?
-
Isn't it £500k more than we paid for him less than 12 months ago and after only 23 games?
-
Maybe, or it highlights how desperate we are for cash having been unable to offload Skacel, Thomas, Rasiak, Saga or Davis who were clearly in the shop window.
-
This is a league full of journeymen pros and untried youngsters. Perry, Svennson, Schniederlin (sp?), Wotton, Thomas, and with Lancashire and possibly Racine in reserve - I would say we are better covered at CB than any other position. It is unpalatable, but if we need the cash, what is your alternative?
-
My guess is whether it's for us or scfc, he'll play 2 miss 3. Recklessly brave imo, which also makes him an actionman-like hero to many. He's played a total of 92 league games in 6 years. Would ike to keep him, but it's clear we need cash, and w have plenty of cover. Sadly the high wages of some of the other contenders for sale mean we are stuck.

How is it gathering pace?
