Is that the season where we scraped into the playoffs and got beaten by a team who later were relegated from the prem with the lowest ever points. The fact we had a cracking away game at Derby doesnt change the fact we underachieved overall .
-
I liked Pearson. IMO the biggest asset he brought was that he seemed to motivate the players a bit after Burley. Even then it was close run thing with an experienced and expensive team. Strip out all those players and give him motivated but raw and inexperienced and in some cases not good enough youngsters, who knows whether he would have done better than JP this season.

We werent "on the right track before Lowe came back" though were we? Have you really forgotten the near relegation last season despite throwing shed loads of money we didnt have at the problem? Weve underperformed for three seasons. Little has actually changed, except we are not spending as much money as we used to to get the same result.
-
I know. We seem to have underperformed since we got relegated. Whether it was spending the most in league, having a 'name' manager like Burley, trying a 'revolutionary new setup' on the cheap or having three different Chairmen - nothing has changed the outcome much.
-
Oh yes I forgot - splash lots of cash we dont have on managers who wouldnt want to come to us and get them to sign players that Arsenal are after. Meanwhile back at the ranch.......
-
I think the combined Burley experience - lots of money spent for little return together with Redknapp - turned Lowe off conventional English managers. IMO he wanted to go with the continental setup as a better long term alternative. It probably was a step too far and taken too late - when we no longer had the great academy players coming through.
-
Like I said, there were other potentially viable approaches he could have taken. If you cared to put forward alternative ideas rather than, as is custom and practice on this forum nowadays, slagging off everything about what we have, it might actually spark a debate.

I get it thanks. Lowe wanted to introduce a coaching led, technical approach to developing home grown young players over a period of years. One of the reasons was that we were skint after Burley blew the remaining cash on so so players on high wages, and produced relatively little for it. There is lots of legitimate debate to be had about whether other approaches could have worked better - cheap hit and hoof, pressing play ala Derby for example, but dont tell me I dont understand what he was trying to achieve, just because you may not.

I learned the rule from you.

Doesnt that take er.....money to employ them and er.....money made available for them to spend?

meant 'but with.....'

I'm probably classed as an apologist. Most of our problems could be solved by money. We dont have any. Until some of wrist slitters who want to sack everyone with no idea of what to do next actually address that thorny little issue, I suppose I'll continue to be one. Show me the glint of £5m or so and it would be a totally different story.

Its not just age. IMO the biggest difference between us and Wolves, apart from a bit of quality up front, is that their team have played together in the CCC for a couple of years. Wolves are an indication of where we could be in year or so IF we survive this year.

It fits with the regional plan. Southampton CC cant refuse for no valid reason. They will likely lose on appeal and have to pay massive costs. Get it now? -

The administrator will take the route which returns most cash to the creditors who have lost out. If the SMS site comes up for sale at a bargain price (for a builder) someone will buy it. I live in Brighton. Take a visit to Toys R Us to see what happened to the Goldstone Ground when the Seagulls got strapped for cash. -

Because you dont launch new projects in the middle of a recession. You do it as the next boom starts. Like I said, three years or so. Builders take options on land all the time, but may not exercise them for years. Thats the land bank system. -
I agree. Short of Capello or Mourihno approaching Saints wanting to work for nothing for 'the challenge' JP will be here until the end of the season unless he walks or its clear the team have lost faith in him - and i see no evidence of that ATM.

Thats commercial property. Theres been a huge excess of offices and shops built over the past 10 years. Not so with housing. -

On what grounds? In that area a developer would be sure to win on appeal. Developments initiated now would be built and ready to sell in three years, pefect timing for the next upswing. -

I can foresee a situation where the highest bidder for the club offers a nominal £1, but a developer offers £8m or so for the stadium as housing. Its not as simple as going into admin, having all the debts magically wiped away and starting with a fresh sheet. -

Well done Wes. A killer retort. You must be very proud. This is my first log on to this site for weeks. Its a pity to see what a graveyard it has become. You, Gordon Mockles and Alpine have largely destroyed this site. Posters have voted with their feet. No doubt you think this is because they cant handle your superior insight and arguing skills. In fact its for the same reason people dont allow themselves to get drawn into discussions with the down and outs at train stations - its a pointless exercise - a dialogue of the deaf.

Like I said, big on *****ing, short on solutions

Probably the siutation is the same as in the Summer. Euell is a good player, but we want to offload him because of high wages and the fact he doesnt fit easily into the style we are playing. However there have been no offers and now the club is negotiating to pay him off for less than the cost of keeping him for his full contract.

Thats the way I see it.
