  3. Phil you really know how to impress Children, Girlfriends, CEO & Clients!. From Time Out: Sea View Hotel, The Marine Club, 3/7 The Sea View Hotel is full of dubious charms. Not least because the sea view actually refers to the giant industrial complex that is Port Rashid across the street. Finding the aquatic-themed club is also a top quality backstreet bar experience. The bar is located out through the back of the lobby, through the service area and kitchens, and then up the fire escape and in through another back door. If you can live with the fact every song from the talented Filipino band will be an ’80s MOR anthem, and ignore the attentions of certain sections of the clientele, you can enjoy the experience for what it is – unpretentious, shabbily-dressed fun. The Marine Club, Sea View Hotel, Mina Road (04 355 8080).

  5. Remember seeing a government report a few years ago showing that the residents of villages in the south east were primarily people who worked in the major towns and cities whilst the people who worked in the villages (farms, shops etc) were forced by price to live in the major towns. There is a ridiculous situation where the two groups pass each other each day as they go to work or go home.
  6. I just think people are afraid of the wrong things. My ex won't allow our kids to play outside the house, in a small quiet cul-de sac - whilst simultaneously not being bothered to fix the permanently loose seatbelt which is supposed to hold our 5 year olds car seat in.
  7. Just think he had an outstanding start, then a series of howlers when KD was injured (two years ago?) and seemed to lose confidence.
  8. Unjustified paranoia by parents is the biggest threat to childrens welfare in the UK. Its particularly ironic since the vast majority of child murders are conducted by the childs parents or people close to the family. In many cases the kids would be safer from abuse outside the home. Between 1988 and 1999 the number of offenders found guilty of child abduction in England and Wales dropped from 26 to 8, dispelling fears that such crimes were on the rise (Furedi 2001). In Scotland a BBC survey found “ Although the incidence of child murder by a stranger in Scotland is very low and has shown no change in the past 20 years, 76 per cent of respondents thought that there had been an increase in such tragedies, while 38 per cent believed that the increase had been ‘dramatic’ .”
  9. Surprised Bart is staying. Thought he had lost his way a bit.
  10. You do talk ********. Is that the best you can do - Britains fearsome garbage bin laws and the authoritarian 'only safe cars on the road' MOT requirements? Louisiana and the US in general has some of the most authoritarian state and federal laws anywhere. Stop and Identify statutes where you have to identify yourself to any police officer who feels like it. At least five different internal security agencies. The National Security Agency's ability to spy on anyone without a warrant. Compulsion to have driving licence and documents with you at all times when in a car. Despite what you like to portray, there really isnt anything special about the US.
  11. I know. Im just teasing him about being hardline with everyone except Germany 1914-1945.
  12. Are you suggesting we should have been nicer to the people who started WW1 and killed 20 million people? The treaty was so mean they were forced to come back and have another go at killing another 20 million. The LDs coalition has gone to your head Dune. I think you would have given the Kaiser community service and a retraining grant.
  13. Not that shrewd then
  14. Go on then....
  15. Thanking his lawyer for her excellent work in bringing the provisions of his contract to the attention of NC.
  16. TBF that would fill 500 pages on here.
  17. Energy efficiency is a total no brainer. Whats not to like? but millions of people still arent doing it - even with generous grants. When I moved into my 1961 house last year it had no insulation at all. The poor old couple who had been living there had utility bills of £1,800pa and yet his son told me they were always cold - duh. Now, even without anything especially fancy (low e windows, loft insulation, cavity wall and floor insulation) its a really comfy home - stays warm for hours after the heating has gone off and bills are about half.
  18. No offer from Saints yet according to the Brighton Argus, but he is definitely leaving. This is a good factual article with extensive on the record quotes about the local club by the local paper - exactly what the Echo should do -and doesnt. http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/8155621.Calderon__I_m_sad_it_ended_like_this/?ref=mc
  19. Go and research 'making a clear point on a web forum' then maybe everybody else will understand.
  20. erm. Thats the way its spelt.
  21. You'd have to ask them. Ive no idea.
  22. Yep all criticising them - then suddenly at 2.02pm, 2.03pm and 2.08pm three longish posts saying how the Echo was only doing its job! wonder who those people work for.
  23. Werent the Echo given that chance with the Staplewood redevelopment and they proved you cant trust them to act responsibily? They were given prior information and plans, with a strict date embargo. The Echo must have agreed to that emabargo, but ignored it and ran the advance story anyway.
  24. Its the way nearly all the media works now. The have airtime and space to fill - regardless of whether there is a story to report or not. All stories need a baddy. If a local council approves a bypass the local paper will be out interviewing residents whose homes will be blighted by the new road. If the council reject the bypass they will interview people whose journey to work is slow, or businesses who say they will relocate elsewhere. Good news stories about how the world is generally a good place with most people acting in good faith, honestly and competently doesnt sell copies unfortunately.
