Thats basically what most people are saying on twitter from what I've seen - horrendous choice between two candidates who are both essentially unfit to be President. The Americans seem to love a dynasty - the Roosevelts, the Kennedys, the Bushes, Clintons and even Obamas or failing that a familiar face like Trump and Biden. It's not healthy.
-
Exactly this. If people are thinking Biden wouldnt make it through a full term they might still vote for him if the VP is strong. Kamala Harris isnt that popular. Ive felt for months the party machinery will step in, but yep doing it now may be too late. https://apnews.com/article/biden-replacement-democratic-ballot-dnc-rules-7aa836b0ae642a68eec86cc0bebd3772

They did. The only debris found on the beach was from a Russian Tor air defence missile which clearly missed its target and fell on the beach. Not a single cluster bomb or ATACAMS part found. Saying "hey we failed to stop the attack on our super important satellite operations station but we did kill our own people on the beach" is not a good look, hence the charade and blame.

"I’m old enough to spot a bullshitting conman when I see one" tbf a mildly dim 10 year old could say the same thing about Farage

My constituency has been solid Tory for decades if not forever. 2019 they had 54% of the votes with the LDs on 24% and Labour on 18%. The tactical voting sites say the LDs have the best chance of beating the Tories but it seems to me Its Labour who are massively stronger compared to the 2019 Corbyn flop against Johnson while the LDs have largely drifted. Still undecided.

Well they did hang around on Germany's borders looking tempting.

but also those which do work fire with varying amounts of power, which makes them impossible to range properly and so hopelessly inaccurate. Not sure if that is due to the fact that the shells Kim sent were supposedly 40 years old, or whether the newer ones are also carp.

Last time I went to Heathrow I used the cheapskate option of parking in a permit free area in Hounslow and then getting an less than £10 Uber to the airport. I chose the area because it only has housing on one side and you arent crowding out residents . This is Hadrian Way Stanwell

It's always been some kind of authoritarian kleptocracy. They've had 14 months of democracy in 700 years. The culture just accepts there will always be some kind of all powerful leader in charge who can appropriate whatever you have, so just lie, cheat and steal and get what you can. It's the only place I've been where it actually feels toxic.

You cant change the fact that Russia has a GDP the same size as Italy's - and Italy has only 40% of the population. They have never been the force the like to to think they are.

Same. I left school at 16 and only went to university in my mid 20s when I realised I didnt want to do menial low paid jobs the rest of my life. So many school buildings are not fit for purpose - old, decrepit, too small and lack facilities and equipment. The irony is building new schools doesnt usually cost that much once you take into account energy savings and reduction in maintenance.

Government funding for councils has reduced by 90% forcing them to raise council tax just to keep services at only a 40% reduction. Then the Government blame councils for extortionate rises and their bad management / waste for bankruptcies.

That's what I mean, a much richer programme of exposing all kids to to different aspects of life without needing a parental payment. More free school trips / visits / placements to everything from the theatre to engineering works to hospitals to whatever. I went on a free school trip to France for a week and stayed in a French school. I'd never been abroad before. Was eye opening.

For me the biggest obstacle was paucity of expectation. If your parents and rest of family are manual workers 'doing well' means becoming an electrician or carpenter. Being a doctor seems unachievable. Yes being relatable to recruiters is also important - being able to talk about the same subjects, extra curricular activities, countries youve visited, experiences you've had. If your family arent giving you those school still can.
-
Yep I agree. As you referenced with Churchill arguably its a stronger pitch if you can say "I could have had an easier better paid life but I think social justice and mobility is vital for the future of the country and I'm here to work for that". The main issue for me is how few professionally successful people (as a percentage not total number) come out of the comprehensive system. Both Starmer and Sunak got head starts - a Grammar school boy and a scholarship to Winchester. Pre 18 education should be so much better than it is and needs to be a higher national priority.

I'm so amazed that the Tories would actually pay to put this out I cant believe its not fake.

It's a way of demonstrating you're smart and motivated and it was your own ability and drive that lifted you up - instead of it all being handed to you. I'm not defending, just think that the motivation. btw I'm a council estate boy, labourer dad, dinner lady mum, now living a heady life in a whole different county. Do I win a prize?

I'd certainly retaliate after being nuked though. Morally you can certainly justify wiping out the person / country that started a nuclear war.

Go to Taroudant. Well worth it - walled old city full of one man band workshops making furniture, leather goods etc. https://www.moroccoworldnews.com/2023/02/353997/five-places-to-visit-in-moroccos-forgotten-city-of-taroudant

Is that the one that claims UK electricity is double the price in France and three times what it is in the US? I had the same exchange online with one of their candidates. Actual prices are almost identical to France (French standing charge varies depending on how much you use) and about the same as the average price in the US. He scuttled off too
