  1. Batman with a point? Hm. Interesting idea but I dont think he'd could go for it.
  2. Get hold of some melotonin. It's the hormone the brain naturally produces to induce sleep. The tablets are primarily used to reset sleeping patterns after jet lag. Its prescription only (although over the counter in US) but you should be able to get it from the online pharmacies that do virtual doctors consultations liker Loyds. Because it isnt a drug like sleeping tablets you shouldnt get that drowsy hangover next day. Also get a spare room for when the turtle is driving them home. But melotonin is cheaper
  3. Agree you need private landlords. Trouble is in a tight property market where prices are rising BLT cash buyers typically outbid those seeking to buy a first or second home and further drive up prices. In a falling market there is a big BLT rush to sell so the supply of rental properties decreases and rents rise. Yes you need private landlords but the current tax break / dividends structure wiorks against individuals
  4. In what way?
  5. Two reasons. 1) because the original deception and messaging about it was conceived by Johnson and his team when he was Mayor. 2. because Schapps Sunak and the rest are now lying about it, saying its an example of how awful Labour will be and how voters should vote Tory because they'd never do anything like that....
  6. So you're pleased with Johnson and Schapps work?
  7. I think its workable. Its rarely farmers who benefit from granting of planning permission. Construction companies and private equity firms buy up agricultural land at agricultural prices. They add that land to their land banks and set to work on campaigning to make the land a development site. Its often a long term strategy of 10-20 years. It is a highly speculative, inefficient and risky process which drives costs much higher than they need to be, and in turn raises house prices. If farmers had the option of selling their land at three times its market value many would snatch your hand off. And if house builders were able to build houses to an agreed spec and price on fixed price land with guaranteed planning permission they'd be happy too. It would also create more opportunities for self builders and small companies who want to build a handful of houses at a time. More choice and an end to cookie cutter generic designs.
  8. There are a number of options but the one which seems to make most sense is to have some kind of public interest companies or agencies which buys the building land at fair value and they hold open tenders for construction companies to compete to build the houses at the best price / quality / design etc. As I said above, if you take land specualtion and profiteering out of the equation you can get better housing at half the cost - just like most of Europe.
  9. We simply need more housing. If we build a lot more housing then the price will fall to affordable levels for everybody, renters and buyers. That will mean more disposable income and less tax funded housing benefit and other rent subsidies. Building housing isnt that expensive, construction is usually only around one third of the current cost. We simply need to break the ridiculous cycle where agricultural land is £12-15k per acre (enough for 10 decent homes with gardens) but its price goes up to £1-2 million if planning permission is granted. Simply shut out the opportunity for speculation. Pay farmers three times their lands value, say £50k per acre and everyone will be happy.
  10. Agree it's a money raising scheme - one which was conceived by Mayor Boris Johnson and the expansion mandated by Schapps as Minister of Transport under Johnson as PM. It was a condition of TFL bailout funding covering the pandemic (when fare revenue crashed because of lockdown). Whassup, dont you like Tory policy? Mayor confirms world’s first Ultra Low Emission Zone. • The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, today (Thursday 26 March) confirmed the introduction of the world’s first Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), and welcomed an increased fund of £65 million to help support London taxi drivers’ transition to zero emission capable taxis. Following a positive consultation process, the Ultra Low Emission Zone will launch in central London on 7 September 2020, significantly improving air quality and helping to protect the health of Londoners. It will require vehicles travelling in the Congestion Charge Zone of central London to meet new emission standards 24 hours a day, seven days a week or pay a daily charge. https://www.fromthemurkydepths.co.uk/2021/10/27/transport-secretary-criticises-ulez-expansion-despite-insisting-on-it/ https://www.onlondon.co.uk/letter-from-grant-shapps-shows-that-government-proposed-enlarging-london-congestion-charge-zone/ https://www.transportxtra.com/publications/local-transport-today/news/71906/tfl-to-get-1-2bn-from-government-in-long-term-settlement/
  11. At first I read that email as 'as following your bail application you have been selected to......" Watching Pompey seems fair punishment for whatever he might have done
  12. Does JaJa Binks arouse many people?
  13. Meanwhile, in the real world Britain's GDP per capita has declined in the past 15 years by 7% whilst Germany's has increased by 24%. So I'd say you can shove your 'maybe just maybe 0.3%' up your arse, technically speaking. 2007: UK $50,400. Germany $41,600 2016: UK $41,100. Germany $42,100 2021: UK $46,500. Germany $51,200

  15. Brighton has particular issues though. Its a combination of 1. Being hugely popular with visitors and has massive traffic inflows 2. Most of the Town centre is an old conservation area with narrow streets only suitable for one way traffic plus one side of parking or two way traffic and no parking 3. No mass transit system other than buses

One of the most impassioned speeches on defence of freedom and democracy I've ever seen by Giorgia Moroni, Italin PM
  17. They still get charged and go to court. Proves the system is working no?
  18. Thats not how it works. People make logical choices. I commute to London by train because its quicker cheaper and less hassle than driving. For journeys of less than mile or so around Central London I generally walk because its quicker than a taxi. Many many cities have shown the more roads you build the more cars you get filling them and the shittier the built environment gets.
  19. The Nordic countries with their high levels of public expenditure and taxation dominate the happiness leagues. Fuck em, they should be miserable like us (well you and the gammons tbf )

  24. Odd then that St James' Park in London and Pitsford in Northamptonshire also hit over 40c that day. Maybe the ducks had something to do with it?
