It wouldn’t be so bad at the moment if we followed Kevin Keegan with “whatever you score we’ll score more”. But we don’t. And sadly there’s little prospect that we will.

Great manager but needs some hair guidance from Stu.

Too bloody right! We have one of the best keepers in the Championship but the haters cannot stop hating once they have selected their victim.
-
Even by the standards of most Transfer Windows this one seems to be dragging on forever. Roll on the end of August.

I don’t know why Adam’s would want to go to Everton. Money isn’t the only factor to consider. Based on how Everton are playing it’s not going to be a pleasant experience. He should stay with Saints, have a good season scoring goals and then review his position if we succeed in getting back up.

High scoring game coming up. We’ll probably let a bucket load in but hopefully will score plenty up the other end.

Worrying that we are already suffering from early season injuries on just the third game in.

Incoming players are usually enthusiastic. This one looks like he’s been dragged screaming to Saint Mary’s all the way from Wham.
-
Given that he initially wanted to stay and that he performed well in the second half of last season, wouldn’t some sort of deal have been sensible in a role as a possible impact sub? Just saying

Does Russell Martin have better hair than Stuart Armstrong?

Smallbone our best player today. Hope he wasn’t injured seriously. We need him fit

I’m starting to worry that the current owners’ strategy is to focus on cashing in on the transfer values of our most saleable assets while neglecting replacements at the standard required to get us back up asap - ideally this season. Hopefully talks with likely replacements are well advanced but we need to start buying - given the poor quality of some of the players we are likely to be left with. Yes - it’s impressive that we are holding out for the highest possible fees (apparently rejecting Chelsea’s Lavia offer for example). But the clock is ticking and we need some early season momentum with some decent wins off the back of a settled squad. And yes Burnley were a bit shite in their opening games last season - but we don’t necessarily want a poor start and then have to play catch up.

I thought on Friday that our late winner may have papered over some obvious and very serious cracks. Last night’s performance suggested it did. We will know more about how realistic a bounce back promotion is by the end of Saturday’s game. We need to convincingly beat teams like Norwich at home if we have any realistic chance of a one season bounce.

‘If we’ve got the ball they can’t score’. Well that’s worked brilliantly the last few seasons! The point is that possession is only part of the battle. We also need product from periods of possession. Currently we are painfully open to swift counter attacks from even poor teams.
-
Totally agree with this. Obviously pleased we won but teams better than Wednesday will dismantle and punish our slow and ponderous style of play.
-
With rare exceptions Saints always make a shambles of the Transfer Window. Selling late followed by late panic buying. If we are to push for a one season promotion we need to get on with putting a quality team together.

Bazunu is not as bad as many people say. McCarthy is far worse. Time to face up to the fact that we are now a Championship team. We aren’t going to attract top shelf goalkeepers.
-
We will win more games when McCarthy is finally dropped and Forster is back in goal
-
Thought the same thing. Surely Saints aren’t that inept? Though we are of course talking about a club which can’t even send out season tickets on time !
