  1. BREAKING NEWS : Residents of Portsea Island awake to discover large wooden horse outside derelict stadium
  2. I'd get rid of it, but then I'd get rid of transfers full stop from the minute a season start till it ends. It would be a much better test of managerial skill (no mid season sackings for them either) to have to pick a squad at the start of a season and stick with it come what may. It would put a stop to the likes of QPR trying to buy their way out of trouble, and make clubs a lot more careful with who they buy. The summer break should be plenty long enough to sort out your squad for the coming season

  4. They could become LLLLLLLLLLLLLLortsmouth and join the Welsh league New ethics? Won't sell tickets for 3 games when they can't be sure there will BE another 3 games ?

    Qatargate

http://www.socceramerica.com/article/50138/qatargate-doubts-over-qatar-2022-linger.html English, well American, article on it. No real surprises but they name plenty of names so must have some hard evidence.
  6. 10/10 But still trying to work out why they picked 75% as a pass mark when there's only 10 questions
  7. That could be the title for his biography. Might not reach the intended audience though
  8. Joined S4E in 2003 as Bursledon Saint but was re-christened Wurzel (as it rhymed apparently ) when I moved (now back there). That name stuck since on there, Saintsfun, B_Anter, to here and, worryingly, in real life to the extent that I'm sure some people are unaware it's not my real name. There was a time I almost felt I lived on S4E, refusing the fiver on her is a self imposed limit to my activity. Managed to miss Amygate too, think I was also on holiday at the time. Would love to read the proper story sometime
  9. Not really. He was given a longish contract (4 years?) , he completed his part of the project early, he can now have his contract paid up in full and do what he likes for the next 18 months or so . Might not be exactly how he wanted it to end but everyone's a winner - provided of course that the New Man does indeed turn out to be the better man for the "next" project, for that only time will tell.
  10. Yesterday I was disgusted Today, more rationally I can see the bigger picture. I do feel NA had taken us as far as he was capable - top of the strugglers. Yes the timing of the decision seems really strange but even the good run we are on has, in several games, been achieved more by luck than judgement. My initial judgement was probably clouded by the fact he is such a nice guy - would I feel the same way if we replaced a Gus Poyet or Colin ****** with the same record? - probably not. When the new owners took over they declared their vision for the club and it does appear that nothing is going to get in the way of that. It really does leave fans in a dilemma. Everyone likes to win, - most of us including myself have said in the past we'd be happy with mid-table mediocrity and/or championship football, but really, long term, what's the point of that? - but more and more it seems the only way to be a winner is to act in a way we, the fans, don't want. Catch 22, vicious circle, call it what you will but the game - as we know and love it - is in danger of disappearing up it's own arse.
  11. So my comment when last weeks game was called off that they have already played their final game and it slipped by unnoticed is still yet to be proved wrong
  12. However, the remaining players prefer a rigid training schedule and are not happy with the idea of being told to turn up at low tide.
  13. Shame. So they've already played their last ever game then
  14. Human League at the Mayflower/Gaumont (can't remember when it changed). Loved their music back then, couldn't wait to see them. May as well have stuck 4 shop dummies on stage and played a cd. Not an ounce of atmosphere of rapport with the audience.
  15. Liking the irony that what could be their final game before the club disappears from the Football League is against Notts County, the club that claims the title as the oldest Football League club.
  16. To put the figures in the OP into context it needs a comparison with PL/Old Div1 attendances over the same period. If (I've no idea if they have or not) they have increased whilst the Cup stood still then it would be fair to say the magic has been lost. Agree with previous posters, As a nipper I could recall every winner, runner up and score from way back when, now I struggle to think who was in last years final. The final was - I think - the ONLY live tv football match of the season apart from World Cup, so it did seem very special indeed. Now, it's not even the only game that day. Getting knocked out in any round was like having a dream taken away for another year, nowadays fans say they are relieved to lose so they can concentrate on the league. Would love to see it restored to it's former glory/importance but just can't see it happening now.
  17. Damn, why can't I get this one through? "I saw that viewers voted the funniest Inbetweeners moment as the one when Neil punched the fish to death. Do you see that as a metaphor for how this sorry tale will eventually end?"

  20. Even if it is a wind up it represents the views a fair few claimants. Benfits for someone like him should be on the basis of the following interview. "OK Sir, you are out of work and you wish the rest of Society to support you. What is your contribution to that society ?" "err...... errr.....ummm" "Next"
  21. Irrespective of how many 0s there should be it's the bit's in red I can never get my head round. If all that money is owed, and many if not most countries seem to be in the same boat to one extent or another, who the hell is it all owed to?

    Moon landings

Not read all thread so may have been discussed. As a kid I watched moon landing and had the picture below as a poster on my bedroom wall and stared at it regularly. (Tennis girl came a few years later). Even then I kept asking myself, why, even after allowing for fact moon is much smaller than earth, and distance is difficult to judge on barren surfaces, and distortions caused by the curve in the visor, are the two horizons (background and visor reflection) such a short distance away? I grew up believing they got there, but pictures and film we saw weren't real.
