I seem to have a dodgy commentary stream - they are saying we are winning ???
-
Harsh. But fair.
-
BIB: Interesting. What was said? I've missed that
-
Same with the M27. It was considered to be a Southampton By-Pass, they never predicted Hedge End to Eastleigh (as an example) type traffic would ever use it.
-
I'm in two minds. My first experience of using one "in action" was traveling South from NEC on M42. Heavy traffic, use of the hard shoulder eased it and kept if flowing. Seemed perfectly safe. But then I took the left fork to merge onto the South-Eastwards M40. Suddenly the M42 hard shoulder I was correctly traveling in became the M40 hard shoulder which was a "non-smart" not to be driven on hard shoulder. Some rapid lane changing was necessary as we crossed over into the M40 inside lane. Seemed like an accident waiting to happen. I guess in that instance further improved signage would help.

I'll make that a hat-trick of 1-3 predictions, which is currently available at 18-1 odds If only we had a regular poster on here who could advise us how cheeky little insurance bets work

You are comparing racism with nationalism. Totally different things. Of course racism is racism whether its by 1 person or 100. But the issue here is whether a club and/or country can be held accountable for it. If one sole knobhead quickly stands up in the middle of Block 13 of SMS and hurls racist abuse before quickly sitting down again he will (assuming he can be located) be dealt with by the stewards and likely never seen again. The club can hardly be held accountable for his actions. Conversely if a group of (say) 100 congregated together and systematically abuse players (and/or fans) in a racist nature then there is no way the club/authorities/stadium management could claim to be unaware of it happening. Any lack of attempt to stop it happening could only be seen as condoning it and for that then they should be held accountable. Of course racism will never be wiped out 100% (except for a Spanish Inquisition style witch hunt where all suspects are "destroyed") but that doesn't make it acceptable. God, we've not even convinced everyone that the earth is not flat yet. All we can hope for is that more and more people stand up to it and shame the perpetrators into realising they hold socially unacceptable views nowadays and it will become so rare as to be almost unheard of. There is one thing I am uncomfortable with from a sporting aspect and that is teams taking advantage of it. It's already been queried whether England would have been so keen to stay on if they were losing. Could a black player being booed every touch because he had committed a bad foul earlier in the match or dived to get a penalty start complaining to the ref? Last night was a great first step in eradicating it from our game , but it needs to seen to be dealt with fairly and correctly every single time.

That to be fair is quite shocking. So basically, for 3 and a bit seasons we have had absolutely no advantage in playing at home. Is there any other club in the entire league with such a record? Something has to be seriously wrong with our approach for that to be the case. Irrespective of what goes on on the pitch I wonder how many changes they've made in that time to pre-match routines (eg when where players meet before games etc). I'd be trying every little thing with that record. Do we still insist on attacking Chapel end second half every game? If so that's a simple experimental change worth trying for starters, because that "superstition" clearly ain't working

This. A million times, this.
-
It's not different every game, but even assuming if it is then he's the one consistent, he should be the dominant one taking charge in every situation. Just not seeing that from him
-
BIB: Is that true? If so, as a percentage or actual numbers?. Either way watching on tv yesterday once again if I couldn't see it with my own eyes I'd have assumed we were playing away. A while ago there were mutterings from the players that SMS wasn't intimidating enough. Away teams must search us out on the fixture list for an easy day out, on *and* off the pitch.

Being an eternal optimist I can sum up that performance in one word Worrying!
-
So that's us, Bournemouth and Brighton on the South Coast all investing in stadium and/or training facilities with an eye to the future competing to be top dog in the area. Hang on though, wasn't there a fourth "big club" on the South Coast. Name escapes me for a moment. Whatever happened to them?
-
I've always sang "we only drink whisky, we only drink brown" (that's brown ale for our younger readers - is that even still a thing?). Rhymes with town ok but being a pedant I always that that was an erroneous use of the word "only"
-
Replace "Sweet Caroline" with the perfect fit of "We're Southampton" and we could make it our own
-
Another favourite of mine (not suggesting we copy it) that has nothing to do with the team, a player or even football but still sounds great (and unique)

Said the same as BIB every time this topic comes up. Atmosphere doesn't have to be just about songs, encouraging/intimidating "noise" would have far more efffect on our players and the opposition than a simple sing-a-long. Get behind the day, frighten the opposition, don't just sit on your hands and wait to gently applaud something after it happens Also said many times think of any song that any club sings that gets the whole ground joining in. They are always slower songs with drawn out notes that enables others around the ground to work out what's being sung and gives them the chance to join in. (Our retro slower version of OWTSGMI case in point). Too many of ours are sung at a rapid machine gun speed and are over before they've got going.
-
To be fair they've got about 125 years of catching up to do. Rumour has it out fans were quiet as church mice at the 1902 FA Cup Final replay. Servants and workhouse kids couldn't get the day off, too many Ladies (with accompanying ladies-in-waiting) and venison pie brigade and apparently no-one knew we hated Pompey back then so we had no songs.
-
We did it to Hoddle we can do it again is it right, if we don't concede in the first 25 minutes we set a new club record for away clean sheets?
-
Reluctantly transferred Adams out of my Fantasy team today. Past experience means we can now expect a man-of-the-match hat-trick performance from him tomorrow.
-
Even weirder it was originally posted by a WestHam fan. Although is bio says he's engaged to a girl with the same surname so maybe he has Portsea connections.
-
Not to mention placing cheeky online insurance bets mid-game
-
Lovely goal .... but I can imagine back in the dressing room RH giving him a bollocking . WTF was a right back doing there?
-
In Eisner's first get together with his new board he asked why they weren't playing their great rivals Southampton more often and suggested creating a new cup that they could compete against each other for every season:mcinnes: True story.

We've now reached that time of the day as kick off approaches when my mindset changes from "It's just another game" to nervous anticipation and a "we have to smash them " attitude.
