Can someone remind me. The scrap of paper featuring the MPZ is now legendary but was it just a piss take or meant to be a genuine idea? There was so much going on on here around that time truth and fiction seems to have blurred in the memory

We don't know if he was in their top ten, there could have been plenty laughed at their approach / politely turned them down

Wasn't it the weekend after that when we were mathmetically safe last year as it turned out, just didn't know it at the time.

And if relegation happens what's the betting that just like his retrospective "only ever intended to see out one contact at Saints" when he thought he was good enough to go to a bigger club, he'll suddenly announce it was always his intention after plying his trade elsewhere to return to his boyhood club again one day and see out the remainder of his career there. Would we take him back if it happened? Purely on ability I'd still say yes, but with that injury record probably not.

Not for me either. If 19 is preventing McCarthy getting out with that touch he must have the strongest arm in football. -

Couldn't believe that all the freeze frame back and forth replays for Brighton's penalty concentrated on the leg contact. It was clear from the one, normal speed, replay they showed from the opposite angle that player tried to stay on his feet but it was actually the yank on the front of his shirt that pulled him off balance. And talking of shirt tugs we were very lucky to get away with Romeu on Mings. Did VAR even look at that? -
I wondered that as well. It was first half so if it was tactical it didn't work. Can only gues it was "buck your fucking ideas up or I'm having your balls at half time" or "Tell the ref there's another £500 in it for him if El Ghazi stays on till half time"

True. I must have missed the rule change that says when a team is losing free kicks may be taken from anywhere within a 10 yard radius of where the offence occurred. -
Just to pove you're not bull$hitting, which oneof these gentlemen is your ITK builder?

Hadn't thought of Covid. Could have been that I guess

In an Echo article on him today, a strange comment from him in a quote discussing his transfer Why would either club make such a stipulation?
-
I've heard there's a grudge carried over from a previous game, and Romeu will ensure that first opportunity he gets McGinn will be upended .

Wow, power and placement with virtually no backlift. Impressive from Che

Only just seen it but couldn't agree more. Ref couldn't have had a clearer view. McArthur was not even close to volleying that dropping ball even if Sako hadn't been there. -
Was just about to post similar question. And if he has, where, general seats or directors/club issue section. There's a big difference between him wanting to watch PL football in his time off and attending as a guest of the club
-
Yes, well confusing when you're at work only half watching.
-
No, it's a question 😂

That could become an excellent combination, a 50/50 mix of organisation/automatism with entertaining flair. Can't see either of their egos accepting it though

Newcastle are 19th now. They've got 13 games till the transfer window opens. Including all 6 of the "Big 6". They could change the manager straight away but all the money in the world ain't going to improve the playing squad until January at the earliest. They could be the richest team in the Championship next season

Pretty sure that scenario has already happened under the current system, certainly Man Utd were given a penalty (which they scored to win the game) at Brighton AFTER the players and referee were walking off after the full time whistle had been blown. You could argue Chelsea's goal disallowed for Dave's foul on KWP was 2 or 3 phases after the "foul". Difference is in my scenario the ref would have signalled to players and fans that play could continue but he wants that particular incident reviewed, so if the goal does end up ruled out it's not entirely unexpected. I'm sure some goals that are currently disallowed come as much of a surprise to the ref as it does to the crowd and players. -

The more I see of VAR I'm beginning to think they have it the wrong way round. For offsides, fine, use it like they are, it's factual, it's either on or off however close. Probably applies to was it inside outside the area for penalties as well. But anything else, fouls, handballs etc that's what I think they now have the wrong eway round. JWP red card the perfect example. It should be up to the ref to request to see a VAR review on the monitor, not be told to go and see it. And if he feels the need to review it then that should be done BEFORE indicating any decision. JWP case definitely a free kick, but if unsure as to punishment the ref should then request the monitor BEFORE showing a card. No need for players or crowd to even know what it is he's checking for till the decision is made. It could even increase the excitement factor in the crowd not knowing if a penalty has been given or if the forwards being checked for a yellow for diving. If he is confident of his on pitch decision no need to review. This would get rid of the"changed his mind" controversies. The VAR should be there to assist the ref not instruct him. Even penalty incidents, if ref is unsure play continues but there could be a signal to players and VAR officials tha t he wants something checked which he can review at first opportunity - not VAR tell him to check for something they think he missed (or may have seen and considered ok). -
Do be fair if he was still here I don't think Ralph would have been high profile enough for him to have been brought in in the first place

A question that will get very fdifferent answers depending on age. And "Best 11" meaning line up and "Best 11" meaning best individuals are not nrecessarily the same thing I've gone 4-4 2 based on their time at Saints (and yes, I can't fit MLT in ! ) Niemi Golac Van Dijk Mark Wright Steve Mills Paine Dave Armstrong Keegan Danny Wallace Channon Ron Davies
-
I'm with you. I'm 59, brought up on Channon , Davies, Paine, relegation, FA Cup win, promotion, Keegan, Shilton, Ball etc. Starting every season thinking we had a chance of winning something (as probably did fans of every club back then). I wish, I really wish, it was still like that.I doubt, if I was a youngster now I'd feel the same attachment. But it isn't. Saints are doing as well as we could reasonably expect (not hope) under the present system. Nobody should be complaining about how we are (or aren't) doing as a club. Complaints should be aimed at the current set-up of football and it's finances in general which, unless financial rules drastically change, means who, what, where we are now is as good as it gets. Just roll with it and savour the best bits when they occasionally happen.
