Brilliant result and a well deserved promotion. I think the batting is more than capable for Division One but the bowling needs to be strengthened a bit. Would be useful to have Abbott back again next season if he's available.
-
175 for 3 at the close, lead of 360. Score rapidly in the morning and declare with lead of 450/500 I reckon. I agreed with the decision to bat again, the follow-on can sometimes give a side an opportunity to get back into the game and if Glamorgan had batted well and got a lead of 150/200 it could have been a tricky chase. Glamorgan have included two spinners so they're obviously expecting it to turn a bit later in the game.
-
Anyone's arrived in the post yet for this one? Ordered mine the day they were put on sale.
-
Given what we did to Leicestershire a couple of weeks ago, a heavy win for Essex was always going to happen. Thankfully they didn't get maximum points in the end though. Scraped up to 300 for 9 now...just the 58 more needed to avoid the follow on!
-
Never heard of scoreboard pressure? Three wickets each for their spinners suggest they may be getting something out of it now, Bell-Drummond interviewed at the end of the first day suggested that might happen later in the game.
-
Left just before our second wicket fell and it was largely the same stuff as yesterday. We bowled reasonably well (Coles particularly) but the wicket is lifeless and now we have a bit of scoreboard pressure on us! Just need to get to 350/400, secure the draw and move on to the next game. That would still put us 9 or 10 in front of Essex and we should back ourselves to get more points out of Glamorgan and than they will out of Worcestershire. Sounds easy on paper anyway...

I was there today and agree with previous comments. The bowlers didn't do a great deal wrong and after a good first half hour or so it was hard work! Bad toss to lose at this stage of the season!
-
Don't really care if we go up in 1st or 2nd, I think we'd be more likely to stay up in Division 1 than Worcestershire. Kent were poor against Essex this week so hopefully they put up a similar showing against us.

Fonte missed a couple of months that season and Hooiveld stepped in and did okay. Had a really good game against Man City I seem to remember. By the end of that season he was keeping Yoshida out of the side. Granted, he wasn't great in his few appearances last season!
-
Not a huge fan of Yoshida but he stood in for Lovren pretty well last season for a few weeks. Hull away in particular he was very good.
-
If I remember rightly didn't Chelsea sell out surprisingly quickly last season due to us taking the lower allocation? At Adkins last game the season before there was plenty of space though.
-
He isn't good enough to play for a top six side. Yet to see anything to suggest he ever will be.

They seemed to be shoe-horning him into the team at the start of the season even when Dawson was fit. Batting Wheater at 8 and playing sides with 3 specialist bowlers. I think Dawson was in the squad for the last Championship game so will be reappearing soon. I saw the team just before the start of the game and thought Rimmington was a youngster I hadn't heard of making his debut so was disappointed to discover he was a 30something Aussie, what's the point of bringing in an overseas of that standard for a handful of games?
-
Indeed. Thought he was signed as cover but has ended up playing far too many games!
-
Was there tonight. We batted poorly but thought we might have half a chance of defending 130 as the pitch seemed pretty slow and was turning a bit. Changed into an absolute road once Roy got a bat on it though...

Students mainly live in Selly Oak which isn't great.

So who was Saints best ever penalty taker
Berkshire Saint replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
Probably MLT overall for shurlock's reasons. Although Lambert's two at Millwall for example were pretty high pressure! We've had plenty of decent penalty takers over the years. Don't think Beattie, Pahars or Dodd ever missed one and they must have taken around 20 between them. Between 2005-2009 we missed a fair few (Quashie, McGoldrick, Rasiak and John spring to mind) though! -
In Cortese's time here, the only time we were really tested with bids were when Arsenal came in for Chamberlain. He still ended up going despite all this 'Cortese wouldn't allow this' ******** that's being spouted at the moment. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

Seem to remember he did the same last season, although wasn't playing in that instance.
-
Did all of the league games apart from West Brom, Liverpool and Norwich. Shame to miss out on the first two but seems I didn't miss much at Norwich! Atmosphere wise, I thought we were very average this season, which is strange given how good our away form ended up being and we take much better followings than we used to. Goal celebration at Old Trafford was ridiculous and the second half at Fulham was great. Train journey to Sunderland one of the lowlights of the season...and throwing that game away after being embarrassingly good for the first half hour. Best home fans were Swansea and Hull I thought.
-
Whilst the results have not been great, we've generally competed with the teams above us though. The heaviest defeats were Chelsea and Liverpool at home and we were right in those games after an hour or so. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

Just seen it on Twitter. I feel a bit sick. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

Really don't help themselves by only picking three front-line bowlers!
-
I think Wood is injured to be fair but like you I expected Gatting would barely play. Strange signing really as his record at Sussex was poor and Terry scored a couple of 50s at the end of last season. Dawson, Vince and Smith should not be bowling 25 overs between them on day 1 (although Vince has tidy enough figures)!
-
292/5 at close. Why have we picked only 3 specialist bowlers again? Briggs should surely be playing instead of Gatting. If we're going to bat Wheater at 8, we might as well play Bates.
