  1. I always thought the amount of time added on was a MINIMUM, ie "the referee has signalled a minimum of 4 minutes stoppage time". Therefore he could conceivably have been going to play an extra 4 mins 45 seconds. Add on the time taken for City's goal celebration and Owen's winner is fine.
  2. A mate who's read the book told me about this a few days ago and I laughed. I laughed again when I read the linked article. It really doesn't matter.
  3. Maybe the reason people aren't putting much effort into voting for this song is because it's complete and utter tosh? When I listened to it I couldn't help but laugh. Ok, some people might like this sort of insipid tripe but if some Pompey fans had written this about their team it would get ripped to shreds on here.
  4. Let's sign Sean Morrison. He's commanding, mobile for a big bloke and has a heck of a throw in. Oh and he scored against us last night.
  5. A lot of our failures last night stemmed from 2 things: The midfield formation and the lack of ball retention within it. If Morgan is playing then he needs to be dropping deep to take 5 or 10 yard passes from the CB's and orchestrating play from there. This takes the pressure of the CB's having to try and play passes they aren't capable of. Morgan is clearly capable of putting accurate balls into the channels and threading them into gaps for players to be running on to. There were a couple of isolated moments when him, Melis and Lallana put together some neat incisive moves which got the team moving forwards purposefully. Sadly, due to the players respective positions and our lack of possession these were extremely few and far between. Last night we had Wotton playing in front of the CB's with Morgan ahead of him. This meant that when our defence had the ball it was just being lofted aimlessly either by Wotton, or the CB's in the general direction of the criminally isolated and tightly marked Lambert or Patterson. There's no point having Morgan in the team if he's being by passed by the play, and there's no point walloping balls to a centre forward if he has no support. The problem with Wotton is that he's now become painfully slow. Injuries and age have caught up with him to the point that he now doesn't often get near enough to a player to get in a decent challenge, or even a foul! I lost count of the number of times he desperately tried to keep up with a player last night but couldn't. It's not that he doesn't know what to do, just that he's no longer able. If he can't fly into tackles and win possession there's no point playing him. This lack of speed also impacts on his passing as due to his lack of pace he often finds himself in situations where he ends up with no option but to wallop it aimlessly. As far as I'm concerned midfield is the major problem in the team. Yes, we need another strong centre back but they and the whole team will be helped a properly functioning midfield. Last night both full backs were isolated and worried about getting forward and helping the attacks due to the fact they had no confidence a midfielder (be it a winger or central) could cover. We need to get more crosses in to Lambert. In fact when we did get a few decent ones in Swindon were clearly panicking.

    Skates

John Misselbrook is down as an Executive Director on that wikipedia link. If only.
  7. Is that the same for people who watch non league football? Oh, so if the standard isn't as good it makes you 'sad' if you watch it? Snob. I'd like to see the women's team brought back into the fold of the club. A football club is a vital part of a community, and a women's team would help to facilitate that as they would run teams down to junior ages. Would it not be nice for the female members of our junior Saints to be able to aspire to play for Southampton?
  8. I'd vote for Cavendish. As much as I enjoyed his 12th round demolition of Jermaine Taylor, Carl Froch isn't well known enough with the general public to win. Same with Haye which is weird. Maybe if he'd have fought and beaten a Kiltchko he would be. If we win the Ashes and he plays well in every game it'll be Flintoff.
  9. 3 pages and no one's mentioned Matt Le Tissier. Shame on you.
  10. Contador did if you include the time trial. That was a great tour. Wiggins and Cavandish were very special indeed. Cav should go on to break all sorts of stage winning records over the years and Wiggins, well with the right training and strategy he could finish on the podium in 2010. Would be good to see him win a stage though, he definitely deserves one. Nicolas Roach rode well too. I agree about this being the sporting event of the year. The crowds on Ventoux signify that. 500,000 apparently, although no idea how you'd go about counting them!

    Charlton Fans

It started in the Parkside Tavern before Charlton's first game at St Mary's. They had a lot of dodgy fans down that day, some Combat 18 nutters and so forth. A couple of Saints fans got bottled. Sadly some of them decided they would like to gain some sort of revenge, and so the meet at Maize Hill was arranged. The incident at Maize Hill was very minor, however it had stupidly been put together on the internet. The Police had monitored that, looked on the CCTV and then made dawn raids to arrest the culprits. Their phones were confiscated and all evidence combined meant that some of the protagonists were put inside for between 2 and 5 years. They were also banned from all football in England for about 5 years. Some of the Saints fans involved are now back at St Mary's and have season tickets.
  12. Quality. Time to crack one off.
  13. The Mail does seem to have some inside info on Saints. Many of their articles in the past have proved to be correct - they were even the first paper to state Strachan would be our manager.
  14. Judging by your user name I imagine you are a very studious and intelligent person. Therefore I find it quite hard to believe that you could have watched a number of the games Wotte has been in charge for and not questioned his tactics. Professionals make mistakes. He may well be an excellent coach but that doesn't mean his qualities transfer to managing a team. His ability to make worthwhile changes during a game and react to positively combat and exploit the opposition tactics are often poor. I think I'm entitled to my opinion. I pay to watch Saints on a regular basis and am an FA Qualified coach. Granted, not professionally but I feel I have a decent enough grasp of the game to justify my comments.
  15. Inept tactics and questionable team selection are 2 things. Still, maybe he'll be ok in a lower league when he's had the chance to organise his own squad over pre-season.
  16. I was in the Archers. Srnicek had a nightmare and completely messed up 2 crosses. Seem to recall him dropping one that even Neil Heaney couldn't miss. My favourite moments: Matty's last goal at the Dell. Monkou's winner in the 5-4 at Norwich. Bucharest away. Benali's header. Rasiak's "winner" at Derby in the play offs. The stand was shaking. Curse the play offs and their crazy goal aggregate rules. No need for penalties when one team scores more away goals than the other.
  17. MLT - Southampton still a good investment, truly believe we'll still be a football club come 8th August. Oh, and if you ever play that Rembrants song again I'll refuse all future interviews with Solent. (Some of the above may not be a direct quote)
  18. Oh my God it's that awful song from Friends. Just when I thought today couldn't get any worse...
  19. It's true. I found out this morning. Big loss to the club. Cheers Kelvin, and good luck.
  20. Maybe Fry has stated to Pinnacle that the deadline can be extended for a while to let them negotiate with the FL, in which time no one else can bid. This extension would last a day or two, and it's not like Pinnacle will let months of work and the whole bid collapse over the 10 points. Just need to wait a little longer.
  21. Also have a soft spot for Bent Brief having spent far too much time in there during my student days spent living on Lodge Road back in the day. For reasons I've never quite been able to fathom, we meet in Varsity before football. The beer is pants, service slow, it's 15 min walk to the ground and completely the wrong side of town for me.
  22. Higher. Because without the stadium loan to pay off and a smaller wage bill I'm hopeful the new board will cut season ticket prices and let kids in really cheap.
  23. That was more enjoyable to read than my favourite copy of Razzle. Thanks so much for all the hard work Tony. Hope you get a moment to reflect on your achievement soon! Up The Saints.
  24. Barclays should be boycotted for the fact they helped fund the apartheid government in South Africa and also loaned Robert Mugabe a shed load of money. Why would anyone want to bank with a company of such dubious ethics? Oh, yeah, they give you a few pence more in interest rates on your ISA. Well screw the people who died, had the houses illegally taken and lives destroyed because my topped up ISA is out performing yours.
  25. I thought Ben Thatcher was a Saints fan in his youth?
