  1. This post makes no sense....... bottom line is with a few exceptions players will move to a club that offers them the best chance of success and more importantly the most money. It makes no difference if the players are English or from abroad........ Lambert, Lallana, Clyne, Shaw, Chambers, Oxlade chamberlain are an example of English players who have moved on in the last few years
  2. It was inevitable someone would start a post like this if leicester won today....... Pelligrino is starting to look like I feared he would be which is a very average manager and not the right man for the job. That in no way suddenly makes puel the right fit.
  3. I'll raise you a Gordon Hobson
  4. I don't hate Man Utd at all. Hatred reserved for Pompey and I can't stand Everton or Liverpool mainly due to them beating us in semi finals in the 1980s.
  5. I'm not comparing the managerial records of Puel with Gray or Wigley I'm comparing the fact that when we appointed Gray and Wigley everyone was left feeling flat and underwhelmed. If Puel got the job I think the vast majority of fans would have that same feeling. Replacing Koeman was always going to be a hard job but there are better options out there than Puel. Recent history at our club shows the damage that can be done very quickly by getting the wrong manager in. In the most recent poll on here only 4 options were given and out of the 415 who voted Puel only got 45 votes......... hardly the peoples choice is he
  6. Puel would be a massive backward step. Appointing this man now would be on a par with the decisions in the past of giving the job to stuart gray and steve wigley. The board need only look at the recent poll on this site and the echo to see this manager is not who the fans want. I cant see why he is even being considered as an option. If this man gets the job we need to replace #wemarchon with #wefellover
  7. puel would be the most uninspiring of choices, I can't see why he is even being considered as an option. His appointment would leave fans and probably also the players feeling flat. I would lose all faith in the club if puel gets the job
  8. I think we need a big name manager someone to give the fans the buzz that we had with Koeman and show the players we are serious about progression. There are some big name managers out there who if we made a play for them could be tempted to come to saints. Somebody like Eddie Howe could in time prove to be good but in my opinion wouldn't be the right choice at the moment as he is too much of a gamble. I would like to see us go for Simeone but obviously that won't happen so Pellegrini or Emre, I wonder if Benitez wishes he hadn't committed to the geordies quite so soon.
  9. Les Reed has been made to look a fool so many times with his statements. It's hard to believe anything he says anymore to be honest. I think its apparent that Ron didn't get on too well with Les and I can understand that. How can Les with his track record in management look to dictate to Koeman and tell him how he should be doing his job. Also I have never heard Reed say that Ron was doing a good job at Saints. Even when asked a direct question recently about how well he thought Koeman had done last season he waffled on and said he was just part of the system and ended up praising himself for appointing Ron into the job. I don't think Ron will be leaving saints simply because of Les Reed but I think Les has certainly played his part in Ron seemingly not wanting to stay. I wish the club would stop trying to put a positive spin of everything and be more honest. The fans are not stupid and I'm sure the majority have the ability to see through the bull**** that is often put out in press releases to prepare us for bad news as its so transparent.
  10. I wouldn't swap Koeman for any other manager
  11. Anyone who was there that day at Highbury will surely say the Adrian Heath goal, we should have won the cup that year and it still breaks my heart thinking about that goal
  12. Losing Morgan, Toby and Clyne would be more of a loss than Lallana, Lovren and Lambert and will not be as easy to replace but remember we also lost Shaw and Chambers last summer as well. I do think if we are willing to sell Clyne and Morgan then we should do absolutely everything to get Toby and that includes smashing our transfer record if needed. I don't think your point about us over achieving last season is right. I think with the players we had available and Koeman as manager we did not overachieve if anything the way the season fell apart after February we underachieved and should have finished with more points on the board and progressed further in both cups.
  13. Would be great if Austin signed and I think with the long season ahead we need him as players will get injured or drop form over the season but we have a fair bit of depth up front now with Rodriguez, Mane, Pelle, Long, Juanmi and Gallagher. We could however have achieved so much more last season if we had a regular goalscorer like Austin in the team in that period when the goals dried up
  14. Hope this is true, I think wanyama and mane will be our key players next season
  15. I didn't think that I would ever like a saints manager more than Lawrie Mac but in just one season Koeman has achieved that. Saints may never have another manager that will achieve what big Lawrie did but that is down to the football landscape changing more than anything else, where money and the mega clubs dominate but Koeman is in my opinion the best we have ever had. Lawrie had success in winning a major trophy and came very close to achieving more success and gave us regular European football plus managed to pull off some amazing signings. Alan Ball, Glenn Hoddle, Gordon Strachan, Nigel Adkins even Mauricio Pochettino were all popular here at one time as manager, although some aren't obviously fondly remembered now but you have to believe that Koeman is the best of the lot. We are very lucky to have a manager of his calibre here, he operates with honesty and integrity and is respected for this and what he achieved in the game as a player. You have to admire the way he has the team playing and his openness when he gives interviews etc. I hope he stays a lot longer than his initial 3 year contract as I think we could achieve something very special with him here.
  16. Kevin Richardson
  17. The fact is that there are at least 6 or 8 games that would attract more than 32,000 this season and any other we remain in the premier league if the ground was bigger. Attendances for other games could also be increased with better pricing structures and incentives etc. I just don't understand why people seem to think that the ground isn't worth expanding simply because every single game will not sell out. Man utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs etc are more attractive fixtures to many fans who dont want to attend every game. Surely it is better to have a stadium that can accomodte the fans when the demand is there even if it doesnt sell out every single game.
  18. You make some very valid points. The only point I would disagree is that we do need a bigger stadium. People seem to think that unless every single game is a sell out the ground is too big. Odd theory really if you stop to think about it. There would be at least 6 or 8 games where we could get many more than 32,000. Would it not be better to get say 40,000 for 6 games or so a season and perhaps still only 28,000 for certain other games? Would it not be better to have the ability to meet the demand when needed rather than restrict ourselves with such a small minded attitude?
  19. what a day this will be, I remember dellhurst park day, we had well over 9,000 there and could have sold so many more....... we will easily sell these 5,817 tickets
  20. love Saints and I hate Pompey, its as simple as that for me and many people from Southampton. It isn't just the football club I hate but the city itself and most Sotonians feel the same, the people really are vile in Pompey. I think a lot of people who say they dont really care about Pompey and think the depth of feeling most Saints fans have is stupid and obsessive may not have been born and bred in Southampton. The rivalry is passionate between the two cities of that there is no doubt. I have spent time living in the North East and Saints v Pompey is every bit as passionate as Newcastle v Sunderland I can assure you. Some people may genuinely not have any depth of feeling against Portsmouth football club or the residents of that city and will not understand why most Saints fans do feel this way. The fact is however the vast majority of people from Southampton do have a hatred for anything Pompey related and they feel exactly the same way about us. Nothing will change this, even if they go out of existence the rivalry and passion between the two cities will be there. It seems a few fans want to take a moral high ground and think that the fact that they claim they dont care about Pompey and only have feelings for Saints makes them a better fan....... nothing could be further than the truth in my opinion
  21. Yes please be true, I think Sharp is exactly what we need at this moment in time....... the right move for us and him
  22. Saints are the heartbeat of Southampton and I am proud of our football club and to come from this City. These sort of campaigns are great and reinforce the pride the city has for it's football club
  23. A very good player who has played a key role in helping us get to where we now are. Last season and this he has scored some vital goals and assisted in many others. I think he is best utilised up front in a more attcking position. He can also be slotted into midfield but is often misunderstood when played there by a lot of fans and sometimes critiscised for being too lazy. He is not a defensive midfielder in the mould of hammond or schneiderling or quite have the engine of chaplow or cork but there is without doubt a role for him in the team. Guly does actually do a lot of tracking back when played in midfield that can go unnoticed. A team needs balance and we have a good mix at the moment and guly has the potential the same as many others in this team to do it at premiership level for us.
